>Who is /fat/ for?
For food-binged frens, working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

What are your guys favourite keto recipes for optimal weight loss? I have decided to buy one of those new dash minis with removable plates to make chaffle burgers.
>>
I am finally starting to like the certainty and efficiency of just eating the same food every day. I have eaten the same foods for like 3 months with only a few exceptions and chest meals
>>
My cravings come primarily from boredom and being in the house with the easy access to food. I noticed I never get hungry while walking outside, not even with the physical feeling of vacuum inside my stomach. It's purely psychological to me.
>>
I've read about the big initial loss of water weight and plateaus but is it normal for a plateau to come immediately after the water weight loss? On a daily 700 calorie deficit and in the first week scale went down 6 pounds but in the second week it didn't budge. Counting everything in a tracker including shit like sauces/seasoning/etc.
>>
>>76592334
Are you eating carbs? Plateaus and eventual weight regain are totally normal for calorie restricted diets with carbs.
>>
>>76592292
None, I just OMAD a regular breakfast sandwich. 2 pork patties, 2 fried eggs, 2 slices of cheese, regular bread buns. 1000 calories.

That's all I need for weight loss. Caffeine to alleviate bordedom from lacking food. 3 meals a day is gay. Losing weight at a snails pace is gay.

I like bacon and eggs for breakfast. If you eat bacon look for sugar free bacon. If it is labeled low-sodium it might be sugar free. Check ingredients.

Unlimited calorie low-carb works better than restricted calorie with carbs.

Of course you can restrict calories in addition to low-carb if you want, though it isn't necessary. The key is avoiding carbs.

Depends on what you actually mean by CICO
No one denies that eating less food is going to make you skinnier, the problem is that when people talk about CICO 99/100 times they mean "eat the same shit you're eating now, but less", which is a recipe for disaster. Just saying "eat less" is completely ignoring human biology and hormones.

If it isn't obvious enough, your body works differently when you're eating 1600 calories of ground beef and turkey as opposed to 1600 calories of cereal, oats, and pizza. With a healthy diet your body will self select for lower intake and you'll easily lose weight without counting calories.

Dash mini waffle makers work best. They have a dash multimaker mini now with removable plates which is probably good for cleaning but I don't have one yet and it costs more. Otherwise just use whatever waffle maker you have. Belgian waffle makers will get worse results due to thickness.

The basic recipe is
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup of shredded cheese (mozzarella or cheddar)

You mix the egg and cheese as a batter. Put some shredded cheese on the waffle iron first to get a nice crispy crust. Then add the egg+cheese mix. Cook 3-5 minutes until it isn't steaming and you have your desired crispiness.

Perfect for all types of sandwiches and burgers.

Yep, and I found going under 1500 calories a day absolutely tanks my mood. I started feeling irritable all the time and I started having difficulty getting to sleep. So trying to eat less to speed things back up was not sustainable for me.

However, visually speaking, I think progress is way more apparent when you're skinnier. Every pound I lose when I'm <200lbs is way more apparent than even 10 pounds when I was >3000lbs. I didn't even notice a difference when I lost my first 20lbs, but going down just 5lbs now is a major difference. So maybe don't track your progress with the number on the scale, but try to take pictures of yourself every week and compare that way.
>>
>>76592285
Daily weigh ins are better and more accurate, you just take the weekly average.
And you're a big boy, I'm sure you can handle highs and lows from glycogen and backed up shit without having a panic attack when you know that daily fluctuations don't matter.
Plus exactly 7 days later you could have stored water weight and see no change in the scale and think nothing happened for a week, THEN you're going to be devastated.

Nah I did it, you have to train properly but the vast majority of your muscle should be built in the first year to two years. I know it's a meme but dexa has me up 29lbs of LBM (I know it's just a guess)
>>
>Visceral fat is the dangerous fat that wraps around your organs. You can't see it, it can’t be pinched like belly fat, but it’s far worse for your health.
>Unlike belly fat, visceral fat is influenced by the types of fat and sugar you eat, especially saturated fat and added sugar, not just your calorie intake.
>Balancing your diet with more unsaturated fats and protein (instead of sugar) helps lower visceral fat, even without strict calorie counting.
>That said, a calorie deficit is the most effective way to burn visceral fat, and it’s usually the first fat your body sheds once you're in that deficit.
>Interval cardio and moderate-to-high intensity exercise have been shown to specifically target visceral fat, even without weight loss.

Not quite the same as skeletal muscle mass. 25 pounds of muscle in a year natty is theoretically possible but you'd have to do everything perfectly or be regaining lost muscle.

>how does one get rid of visceral fat? eli5 pls
Your genetics determines where you put on fat as you gain weight. For some, it goes into thighs, then belly (visceral), then back to thighs, then face- it's not evenly distributed as you gain. For others, sometimes it goes to ass for a while, then to belly, then to arms, etc. When you lose weight, it comes off in the opposite order. I've gained/lost weight several times in my life to know the exact 15 lb weight range I gain all of my face fat, kinda crazy.
That said, you essentially have to keep losing weight (by weight, I mean fat), and your body will remove fat in the order it put it on, until it hits the visceral fat.
No real other way about it: lose fat until your body removes it from your viscera.
One modifier: Stop drinking alcohol. Alcohol fucks with your hormones and promotes visceral fat storage.

Dr Sean O'Mara does scans on his patients to track their visceral fat. His advice is basically:

- low-carb/carnivore diet
- sprinting
- fasting

You can look up his name to see interviews where he goes over this in greater detail.

why sprinting specifically?
wouldn't any exercise help, since it will also burn fat through requiring more energy?

No a food scale is not necessary. Estimating calories of the food you eat is not necessary. Tracking what you eat in a food diary is not necessary.

The only thing necessary to get lean is to stop eating carbs.

I'm going to say "it depends". If you aren't familiar with food amounts, I'd say its necessary for a while so your brain can adjust and get better at estimating food-by-weight (after maybe 6 months of using a food scale, I can eyeball it pretty damn close most common food ingredients). That said, it definitely helps with making sure your estimates are really good. Given how cheap they are, I think everyone should have one really.
>and which app do you recommend for tracking calories?
I use Macrofactor which is bomb as hell, by far the best app out there, but its expensive, so probably not what you are looking for.

Your body tracks how much food you eat with hunger and satiety signals. No need to consciously estimate anything.

The only thing that messes that up is eating carbs. That's why unlimited calorie low-carb diets work better than restricted calorie diets which include carbs.

Literally the only thing necessary to get lean is quitting carbs.

Sounds plausible. I’ve eaten rice every day my whole life, and it definitely affects my hunger in a way. But whenever I see this “don’t eat carbs”, I always think about countries like Japan where they eat kilograms of rice weekly. I don’t know too many fat Japanese people. Though to be fair, their portions of rice are way smaller than what I eat and it’s buffeted by lots of lean protein.
I’ll continue to look into the no-carb notion. Thank you anon!

I've always found it kinda retarded to argue over the best way to lose weight.
If you're losing weight, just keep doing what you're doing. If that's a diet of twinkies and bacon grease, it doesn't really matter in the long run as long as you lose weight. Because ultimately no diet is going to do as much harm to you as being fat is.

Obviously you need to learn good eating habits and make this a long term thing. But really just focus on getting there first.

Tastes really good too, and it's relatively easy to make.
Only downside it takes a while to cook. I cook it in my rice cooker with a slowcook function, but if you don't have that, it has to stew for ~2h.
I just let the rice cooker do its thing for 3-4h personally, because I can do other stuff while it cooks.
If you're interested, the dish is called "mualle", it's a turkish vegetable stew. I added some basedbean granules for protein and cottage cheese for macros and to balance heat. Would probably also go well with ground beef or chicken on the side.

Hey fat bros. Ashamed to say I’m back.

2 years ago I went from 280-180, I have recently over the past year been slipping. Back up to 220-230 in recent weeks. I have tried to meme diet my way out of this but I’ve failed about 4 times now.

Going to get back into what works. Not eating until noon each day, low carb but not meme diet level restrictions. Eggs and ground beef to break the fast. One dinner that fits on a single plate. And trying to just move a little more but not push myself to burnout- just get in a 30 minute walk everyday for the first few weeks and lift when I’m feeling good.

Going to check in periodically to try to hold myself accountable since I have no friends other than my wife who is currently pregnant and not super into eating healthy.

See you guys around.

One of these studies told the low-carb group to eat as much carbs as they want "until desired weight stabilized". Another told the low-carb group to add 5/g carbs weekly after reaching half their weight loss goal. Two more increased carbs to 50-60g/day. Only one kept the keto group at their original limit.

Notably the low-carb groups are all unlimited calorie. They are comparing unlimited calorie low-carb with restricted calorie.

Even if the results were the same, which they wouldn't be if they had just maintained low-carb long term without the carb increases, these studies all show the drastic superiority of low-carb.

Low-carb is so superior it has equal or better results while eating unlimited calories.

Now I'm recovering from a retarded dirty bulk where I stopped counting calories (went from 180 to 230lb)

Currently 5'10 195lb. Thinking another 15lb or so? Looking to get lean as possible before I start my bulk.

i should elaborate because some people will think this is shilling or a meme, but no, there are studies that show that tirzepatide reduces visceral fat more than just losing weight normally.
>>
>>76594414
Give me source brother
>>
>>76594821
The visceral fat loss matches the regular fatloss ratio
I dont see how that shows it targets visceral fat specifically

>lose more fat
>lose more visceral fat too
>>

The fuck are you "Bulking" for? Did you not learn the first time? You already pre bulked. You have excess calories on your frame and your plan is to crash diet then immediately get in a surplus again only to blow up with fat again rinse and repeat. Spend the next six months at maintenance actually training properly. 72 IQ maximum, you only need to bulk after you are an intermediate lifter with years of experience.

Man I have no clue what to do. There’s no lifts for charisma so I can’t cold approach. I gotta find some sort of hobby where I can meet nerdy girls
>>
>>76594831
I figured if I did a clean lean bulk, calorie counted carefully, I'd gain minimal fat

>>
>>76594836
No you'd gain only fat because you look like you've never touched a weight before after already training. It's the training not the calories mate. It doesn't matter about calories if you can't even stimulate hypertrophy while obese. You are fuckin something up big time, intensity, volume or frequency. It's not working. I'm not being a dick I'm trying to save you from yourself

there is significant difference in the ratio, 21% weight loss and 40% of visceral fat loss with tirze, vs 5% weight loss with placebo and 7% visceral fat loss.

I skip breakfast, seems to be the best way for me to lose weight.
>>
>>76594780
What's your job?

>>76594846
I just procrastinate on taking the plunge because I might get a bad batch. And since the drugs take time/titrating up doses to work, you wouldn't even know it's bunk until you've been injecting for 2-4 months
>>
>>76594855
I thought the same and I YOLO'D anyways cause without action you dont see results

But I've noticed a change on week 2 of injecting tirze, you will know that its working

More proof that body composition isn't about calories but is actually controlled by hormones.
>>
>>76594919
Not really, its controlled by both (and more like exercise)

Statistically speaking, you will regain the weight if you eat like this
>>
Mounjaro anon update
1 month on 2.5mg
Starting weight 116kg / 256lb
Now : 111.5kg / 246lb

So, this shit works pretty well, I guess.
Cessation of hunger has continued. I eat one meal a day, usually around 1200kcal, sometimes less, sometimes more, and by the end of the day, I'm at like 1500kcal.
I feel I could cut more, and lose more quickly. But, this is okay, so I think I'll just keep with it.
No major side effects or feelings of unpleasantness to talk about. My diet is more protein heavy now, and I think that's helped too.
Cost-wise, I did "The Golden Dose" today. And it's very easy, no problem what so ever.

I'll try going up to 5mg next week. But given 2.5mg is working, I feel it's a bit pointless. But, if 5mg works better, I guess I'll just stay on that for a bit.

Can you eat a zero carb meal? Then you're hungry.

Zero carb works with unlimited calories so you can just eat whenever you feel like it as long as you avoid carbs.
>>
Any reason not to decrease my 1000kcal OMAD to 800?

That would give me almost 3 extra pounds of body fat loss over the next month. Compliance isn't an issue since I'm on unlimited black coffee/monster zero. I'm a NEET so lack of sleep isn't a problem.
>>
>>76595225
If you're eating carbs it will cause muscle loss and lowered metabolism. If you're eating mostly protein with some fat it will be fine.
>>
>>76595232
Yeah I'm considering keto even though I've managed low calorie OMAD with carbs in the past. More interested in the supposed mood benefits than weight loss since I notice a mood improvement when I'm fasting (presumably from ketsosi). I'm waiting on a waffle maker for the cheese/egg waffles and I'll trial them in place of bread. Other than that I'm eating sardines daily because I have inflammatory health issues.
>>
>>76595225
thats a pretty tough deficit, how long hve u been doing it and how much have u lost?
>>
>>76595260
2 days but I'm already dialled in. I've done this in the past. I just low calorie OMAD for a month or 2 with a ton of caffeine. Basically a poor man's meth bender. I'm 164 and want to be 133 again by the end of the year, water weight drop will bring me to like 156, so only 20lbs of body fat to lose
>>
>samefagging and promoting keto products in totally organic interaction

Former fat guy here.
You can do it.
You are not weak.
You are not lost.
You are not past redemption.
You can and will lose the weight.
You can and will improve your health.
You can and will heal your relationship with food.

Keep yourself accountable, dont make excuses, and when you do slip up, remember that nobody is perfect. If you have a setback, get right back on the horse and get back on the path to success

Godspeed.
