>Who is /fat/ for?
For gargantuan guys and gals working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

At some point you just have to have self control.
Fasting always makes me less hungry the day after, but clearly this is not the case with you.

>commerical "protein" drink loaded with sugar
never drink those shits, they always taste weird and are expensive as fuck. Just buy a 2 pound bottle of whey powder and mix it with milk, if you want variety buy a bunch of different flavors (there's a ton, even kool aid flavored)

>a sugar free energy drink
that's fine

>half a fried chicken
fried chicken is healthy, tons of protein and a good chunk of healthy fat
just don't overdo it

depends on the size but yeah this shit is terrible, you should basically never drink anything that isn't zero sugar (besides milk)

I realise why my scale was fucking up so much. If I lean forwards a bit too much I put weight on my tiptoes and it makes my scale increase my weight by like 4-5kg, if I keep the weight on the back of my heel my weight stays down. Question is which weight is the correct weight?
>>

You're telling me your scale doesn't do that? I usually weigh myself with a traditional scale but the new digital scale my parents have gets fucked too if I lean forward. My friends say the same thing, if they lean forward the scale increases their weight
>>
>>76664408
Either get a new scale that doesnt do that or do something like draw an outline of your feet where you stand every time you use the scale, then try stand as stable as you can.

If I were you I would get a new, a bit better scale.

On the first few days of going from 250lbs to 190lbs. Had to take the last couple days to get away from junk food, general fast just so i can actually appreciate healthy food. I've been this weight for the last year or so when a bad relationship drove me to drink too much beer. So yeah, here's to staying strong so I can become healthy again
>>
>>76664404
1860 twice a week with 1600 the rest of the days sounds fine, though idk your tdee
if that's what it takes to sustain you and keep you from binging or going crazy, do it
>>
>>76664408
pick one and just use it exclusively from now on
>>
>>76664422
I guess it's a quirk of electronic scales? Ask yourself this, anon: if you made a scale, would you make it so it gives an accurate reading when somebody stands on it normally, putting most weight on the heels like a human being, or if they tiptoe on the front for some reason?
If I were you, I'd believe the heel value.
>>
>>76664424
>>76664429
I'm ESL so maybe I am explaining myself badly. I can get consistent weight all I have to do is not lean forward. Like with my digital scale I just stand on it for a few seconds while staring at the wall, my weight gets calculated and is stuck in place then I look at it.
My other scale that is not digital requires me to lean forward to see my weight and if I lean forward a bit too much the weight goes higher. I was confused about it before but now that I understand why the weight was fluctuating like that it isn't really a big deal.
My problem is I'm not certain if my real weight is the lean forward weight or the stand upright weight. I'm assuming it's the stand upright weight.
>>76664436
5kg is a lot though, like 70kg is a decent weight for me but 75kg is a bit too much, I'll probably just use the heavier weight if I lose 5kg extra it's not gonna be a big deeal anyway I guess.
>>
>>76664440
Yeah that makes sense, I'll use the heel weight then.

How big of a difference is it between the two scales? I would stand up straight on both, and follow the scale that says you weigh more. Thats how I do everything when im uncertain when it comes to my weight loss, assume the highest.
>>
>>76664476
On both scales I weigh 74.5 kg without leaning forward and 79kg leaning forward
>>
>>76664480
Ahhh, well id normally take the high number, but in this case take the number where you are standing straight up, and never lean again.

So are you going to answer the question instead of pivoting to make yourself feel better
>>
>>76664564
My recent gym routine is 2km rowing machine (9-10 minutes), 20 minutes elliptical, one hour bike. I don't go low on the resistance either. the calorie counters tell me that I burn ~100, ~150 and ~450 kcal respectively. so roughly 700 calories. that's crazy. those numbers are lies. I usually cut them in half to get a rough estimate, but our bodies are insanely good at energy conservation so even that may be generous.
I believe it's best to not include your workouts when calculating calories at all because while we can calculate the intake fairly accurately, calculating the burn is guesswork.
>>
>>76664577
>>76664583
whoa hey chill brother i didn't know either! It's king shit that you're on the exercise bike im just saying i was super let down once i found out they're inaccurate as hell and i wasn't actually running off 1000kcal a day over my walking and normal morning runs.
>>
>>76664572
NTA, but I'm trusting the calorie burn estimations from chronometer and fitbit, and my weight loss is going well. I thought 1,200 calories burned in 90 minutes of zone 2 stationary biking was insane, but maybe not. I'm planning to reevaluate soon to see if I need to start dropping the estimates, but so far, so good.
>>
>>76664592

>>
>>76664595
very well. I did use a stationary bike. now your turn. what the fuck are you doing at the gym?
>>
>>76664593
I don't need to lose any more weight. I burn about 500 calories a day on the stationary bike and eat it back in my calorie allotment. I've been doing this for years and I've been weight-stable for years. Maybe talk out of experience next time instead of repeating stale overused fitness cliches that you've overheard. Works for me and plenty of other people.

>Every online calculator I've used says I burn around 500~ calories after walking 9km~ in 2 hours, they can't all be wrong right bros?

Retard bro what's you burning you BMR + walking
So in two hours you burned 200kkal from BMR and 300 from walking or something like that
>>
>>76664618
80kg, 178cm, I'm not sure about stride but I average around 4.6/4.7km an hour as far as pace is concerned

>>76664544
I have my own treadmil, but you can do what I do on any treadmill that allows you to increase the incline. I walk at an incline of 10% for 45 minutes at an avg pace of usually 2.7 mph. My treadmill doesnt allow me to input my weight so its off, and to get a closer number I use this site
https://www.treadmillcalculator.com/
Which usually has me burning around 530 so between the two id I say im sitting basically right at 500 calories burned per workout. Im completely drenched in sweat afterwards.

Oh and to add I absolutely NEVER HANG ON TO THE TREADMILL. I tell people to go as fast as they can, but if they find them hanging on to the treadmill to bring it down to a speed slow enough where they dont grab the treadmill. Last weekend or before I walked 5 miles at that incline just at a slower pace, and burned an even 1000 calories, and that's just what the treadmill said not that website.

is there anything wrong with eating sometihng like a mcdouble with no buns (or 2), small fry and orange juice (sugary) a few times a week?

I find it hard to cook for myself all the time and I need high sodium (dr's orders) so the sodium isn't a problem. It's processed. I guess the worse part is the processed food

I live next to a mcdonalds and its the cheapest protein

stats:
slightly active, 25% body fat, 6 foot tall 188 lbs. I want to go down to 15-18%ish body fat by christmas

Tard question. For example, if I were to use a TDEE calculator and put activity as medium and get 2500, is that still the base metabolism or is that counting the average calories burned from an activity? So if I took a 500 calorie burning hike, should I say that I burn 3000 that day or is the activity level assuming an average and building it in?
>>
>>76664230
i was a powershitter so I wasn't a typical fatty (surpassed 3/4/5) but I am still fat as fuck and have similar height and weight as well.

I got some nasty ones on my bicep and gut, but the gut one is fading rapidly with daily .1 percent trentinoin cream and derma stamping once per week.

Still feel bad about getting them in the first place, but i was told I am young enough at 26 to have favorable outcomes despite how ugly they were.

down to 240 from 272 and no loose skin yet
>>
>>76665835
it's counting from your activity
it's also not completely accurate
>>
>>76665835
dont base your calories on activity levels, always be safe and put in your activity levels as sedentary. consider any extra from working out as bonus and dont count it in your calculations.

Hello, I'm doing a low/no-carb diet and got some plain greek yogurt (pic related). I never eat this stuff, and was wondering what I can add to it to make more palatable. I tried a scoop of peanut butter with it yesterday which was...ok...but definitely could be better
>>
>>76665784
Yeah sure, 1 hour is good
>>
>>76665866
Greek here, we usually put honey and walnuts in it for a great source of energy. Or some fresh fruit like berries maybe instead of walnuts?
>>
Will basedbeans make me less of a man?
>>
>>76665882
Britbongs eat beans on a daily basis, look at them. Do you wanna be like them?
>>
>>76665877
good call, I'll grab some honey and walnuts from the store and try it out. The taste is so plain I feel like you can make the yogurt sweet or savory depending on what you put in it and it can work
>>
>>76665887
just make sure youre checking the nutritional label on the yogurt, some offbrands add extra sugar if youre getting the low fat versions.
>>
>>76665887
>sweet or savory depending on what you put in it and it can work
Another way its eaten here in Greece is its used as almost a sauce with meals like beef and rice, a very common recipe is beef meatballs with a spicy tomato sauce and rice, with a bit of greek yogurt mixed in after its cooked. You could make it work if you do it with lean beef, would be a lot of calories but a lot of protein too.
>>
>>76664825
Shes so hot, I cant focus..
>>
>>76665910
interesting, thanks for the idea. I'm upping my protein while reducing my carbs, so I'm looking for ideas on how to spruce up my boneless/skinless chicken, pork tenderloin and ground beef dishes
>>
>>76665887

You realize honey is just sugar (that is carbs), do you?
>>
>>76665919
sure but I wouldn't be dousing it in honey, it'd just be a bit. Fair point though, I also saw some hazelnut spread that had lower carbs and will try that as well
>>
>>76665919
>muh carbs are the enemy
lmao, ok. hf lifting with no energy. dumbass. theres ofc bad carbs, no ones saying go eat a bunch of chips or what americans call ''bread''. honey is great, especially if its a good quality one or better yet raw.
>>76665922
stop obsessing over muh carbs, if youre going down the path of buying a bunch of ''keto'' or ''carb free'' products youre literally putting globohomo slop into your body. ill refer you to that woman that was eating those ''keto'' noodles a lot and had to have stomach surgery to remove a bezoar from her guts because it was indigestible filler slop. additionally a lot of the stuff that is low carb or keto is filled with stuff like insoluable fiber, meaning things that just pass through you, your body doesnt know wtf to do with it. doesnt sound good to me.
>>
>>76665866
I just eat it plain. Same with cottage cheese.

You're overstating the effect. On the left I was 140 pounds and could only do 4 pull ups, now I am at 125 and can do 15. That's about an 11% weight decrease but over 350% performance increase. The performance of my other non bodyweight lifts has also increased dramatically, going from 45x8 on incline chest press to now 80x8, so an almost 80% increase in 4 months.
I have no doubt that the only reason I'm able to do that many pull ups is because I weigh so little, but the gains are also real. I've been consistently getting 120g+ of protein each day and training 3x a week.
