>Who is /fat/ for?
For Burger Boys working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

>Stop cravings
I can't tell if you're baiting or not. I did keto for like 9 months and it worked great. But I had multiple dreams about bread unironically. Every day I was craving bread and carbs in general.
I lost a lot of weight, and if anything resisting the cravings helped strengthen my resolve, but do not tell people that keto WILL stop cravings.
>>
I will go on a 30 day bread cleanse
I will only eat bread
>>
>>76688185
Do what I did.
Eat 3 times per day. Exactly and only 3 times.
You can have only one thing per meal, so if you get a burger meal or smth, you have to save the fries for the next meal. And one slice of pizza per meal only. Satisfies the craving without wolfing an entire pie.
No drinking your calories either.

Fatty here, a while ago while being fat and lazy scrolling on twitter, I came across a post of a dude explaining how even big weak fatties can do pushups by doing inclined pushups against a wall, then lowering until they can do regular pushups. I'm not sure why this lit a fire under my ass but it did and I started doing my fatty pushups, 50 reps x 3 sets daily.

Then I started doing them in doorways so I could lower the angle.

For the first time in over 20 years I'm able to do proper pushups now on the floor but my fat stomach hits the ground and makes it awkward.

I've also incorporated some other minor calisthenics and free weights (dumb bells and easy bar curls) into my pretty low intensity workouts.

I started seeing gains in my arms and shoulders and mirin' myself in the mirror - but I still look like a big fat ass so I can't tell other people about it. Still, feels good.

I've also started taking creatine and trying to get more protein and less junk in my diet without actually counting calories and shit like that, after doing the math it seems like I could eat an absolute metric ton of calories and still lose weight so I just need to work out and not eat stupid shit.

I'm trying, it's nice feeling strong again. I've been trying to surround myself with fitness content just to keep me motivated and in the right mind space to keep this going. Which is why I've been lurking on fit lately. Feels good man.
>>
>>76688636
thank you. for years I have rationalized my poor eating habits ("this is a reward", "I feel terrible, this will make me feel better", and my favorite: "tomorrow is the first day of the rest of my life, my diet truly starts tomorrow"). I need to buck the fuck up

Bros, I found the ultimate hack to lose fat.
It's heartbreak. I was 68kg and I've lost 10kg in almost 2 months because I have zero appetite and I can easily go days without eating. Coffee and cigarettes are the best and I can't stomach more than a few spoonfuls of food at a time.
>>
>>76688185
Pizza is the worst thing cause you take 1 or 2 slices and are still within your calorie limit, but the other 4-6 slices are still there in your kitchen and it's so easy to say "well, I may as well finish them/treat myself" and then pig out. Imagine an alcoholic who's daily walk through town takes him past 5 pubs. If you were him, why hope that you can have the willpower to avoid going into one of them on your commute when you could just take a 5 minute detour? Making an easy decision earlier can avoid having to make an impossible willpower save later. Avoid all foods with more portions than you can fit into your budget. If you really want a pizza you can get a single slice or mini frozen pizzas or something.
>>
>>76688741
Pathetic
>>
>>76688731
I honestly don't think I'm going to count calories or do macros (at least not for a long while) I'm so fat right now that doing the calculations in the article posted by OP I can lose weight eating 3k+ calories a day (Which was a big eye opener for me the first time I calculated it) as long as I don't eat stupid shit and do <any kind of work out> I should be losing weight.

Honestly, the weight doesn't matter half as much as seeing actual gains in the mirror did so I'm kind of not even worried about the weight as much as the shape. I got down to under 300 when I was focusing on just the weight but I would rather build muscle than lose weight... maybe that's dumb, I dunno.

>I've tried a single full day fast and sometimes it's tough.
I fast for around 95 hours a week, starting from around 3pm Saturday to 3pm Thursday. 1 day of fasting might help you a bit, but I would suggest you try out eating zero/low carb for like 3-4 days to prepare and clear your glycogen stores and then fast for 1-2 days with a goal of around 3-4 days, just remember to get some electrolytes, I have this cheap salt substitute that is 50% sodium and 50% potassium and mix around 5g to a 750ml bottle that I drink throughout the day. More days you eat in a row the harder it is to get back in track if ones goal is fasting, especially if you eat carbs and highly processed ultra palatable foods. The problem I have now days with fasting is I miss the dopamine hit I get from eating and extra yummy foods really makes the it worse. The longer I do these weekly fasts the easier it gets for me, took me around a month to get this thing really rolling, right now I'm at a point I'm probably going to switch to alternate day fasting since I don't have as much fat to lose.
>>
Fasting doesn't work
>>
>>76688969
Ehh, on my current cut I have lost around 11kg of fat through fasting, works for me at least.

Back on PSMF. For me I think this approach is best for adherence. Did 1500 calories a day at first last year, then I only really started PSMF around February this year, had lost 18 kg by mid April. I let myself go a bit over the summer but I'm back on the diet, lost 5.9 kg in 1 month and 2 days (not water weight). I'm still more than 20 kg lighter than I was this time last year.
The diet plan is: 130 grams of protein a day, 5 omega-3 pills (50 calories), a bit of fiber if I'm hungry, electrolytes, calcium.
It adds up to. ~650-800 calories a day

My feet are cooked. Put my old runners on last week and walked 30kms over the course of three days, I now have no less that 4 blisters on my feet, one the size of an egg which will affect my ability to walk this weekend, which is actually shaping up to be beautiful weather. >losing weight didn't help
IKTF fren. For the past couple of years I lose good amount of weight. I was optimistic, actually happy. But as time went on, I realised nothing much is actually changing in my life and slowely slipped back into my old habbits. Put back on 20lbs over the course of the first 6mths of this year, but coming back to these threads I've decided to pull my head out of my arse and get back on the weight loss train. I need to add some sort of social aspect to my self improvement schedule. I do everything alone, and I think that needs to change. Going to be looking for some groups in my local area, whether it be bushwalking club or a casual cycling group. Would even like to get to the point where I can participate in 5k park runs on a weekend. WAGMI man, we just gotta keep at it.

Mostly focused on diet. For exercise ive been doing weightlifting 2x per week and lots of walking/hiking (walking every day and at least 1 hike as difficult as I can handle). Lifting does burn a lot of calories but nothing is more important than diet.
Youll get there, but it's all about consistency. I've had bad days or weeks, but you've got to get back on the wagon

Thats a pretty good day anon. I bought a little coffee plunger this morning actually, going to start trying to make my own cold brew. The thing that concerns me though is trying to work out quantities and caffiene content. Usually just have instant so its pretty simple to work out 1 tsp in 1 mug, for around 80-100mg of caffiene, but going into brewing my own seems like it could go horribly wrong. We'll see.

Sorry I disappeared but I got the scale and the number I was guessing was way off. Caused me to get depressed and eat like shit for a week. Really thought I had been doing a little better. Seeing myself almost at my starting weight from 2 years ago hit me hard, I've done nothing but tread water.
But there's nothing I can do but try again. This time instead of trying to wing it I'm going to do my best to track as much as I can so I can have some sort of idea of how I am making progress.

The whole point of this process is to buy cheap ingredients individually and mix myself. Store-mixed is twice the price.

1000g peanut
500g cashew
200g hazelnut
160g pecan
250g papaya
200g raisin
150g cranberry

When you buy store-mix you get cheap ingrediens for the price of the most expensive. When it's home mix the cheap filler actually saves you a ton of money. Like I said, 1.02€ per 100g. Mixes are about 22€ per kg where I live.

Made a Chronometer account based on a suggestion from one of you. It makes it a lot easier to track what I'm eating. I decided that for the rest of the month I am going to try to eat a semi keto diet. Not because I think it's the best or anything but more for personal reasons. I am terribally addicted to carbs. I was eating massive amounts of pasta/rice/bread daily. I want to try to feel what it's like to eat without that. Also more than taste I have a need to feel FULL. It's not enough to eat something tasty I need that feeling of my stomach being full. I figured with this method of eating only meat and veggies I could get more full without blowing up the calories.
Went to costco with a friend and bought a bunch of bulk meat and a massive bag of frozen veggies. Going to try different ways of cooking them and just accepting that it's not going to be super tasty.
Today was the first day, it was a little difficult, neither meal made me feel that same feeling I get when I get a huge pasta meal. But I don't feel like I'm starving either. I think I can handle doing this for now, hopefully I won't feel like shooting myself in a week.

I'll make an entry. (I'm the PSMF anon above.) I used to be around 150 kg, now 102 kg. Lost 27 kg in a year, gained 11 kg in Summer, now lost 5.9 kg in a month and some. You should never feel so demoralized you give up forever. If you try something and it fails, try again, then if it doesn't work, maybe try something different. That's just my 2 cents. You can lose the weight. It can feel slow or impossible when you do it, but the neat thing about weight loss is you can always start again and you can always try different methods.

>keto
nta, but I've been doing keto for a couple weeks now and all the fucking fat you have to eat does a number on the hunger cravings. I think combining it with a 16:8 IF helped train my body and control those cravings. If anything keeping the carbs at 10% is the easy part, figuring out how to shove 70% of your calories in fat down your gullet while also not overcapping on protein and ruining the ketosis is the real bitch

body recomp is very real but only good if you're a beginner lifter
if you're 227 and haven't been lifting for years you probably have 50-60 pounds of fat to lose
you should be getting at least 120g of protein a day for recomp and still losing weight
4 pounds of muscle in 2 weeks is not realistic, either you're eating more than you say or you're weighing yourself inconsistently (water weight, food in your stomach, shit in your intestines, etc.)

Is a "large frame/broad shoulders" legit or fatty cope?
>>
>>76688750
you want to count calories. you need a healthy deficit to lose weight sustainably. if your deficit is too large, you'll lose a shitton of weight in a short amount of time which may potentially also cause other issues like flabby skin or issues with organs/muscles. knowing exactly how much you eat and how much you _should_ eat to keep in that good deficit is key to make your fat go and stay go.
do yourself a favor, count calories.

>>76690356

>>
>>76689440
>It just might just save me from going to the shops and buying something worse when I am really craving something.
this is incredibly wise advice. people get into the mindset that they need to 'not eat' but the real trick is to eat the right thing at the right time. don't let yourself get so hungry that it overrides your willpower and you eat something you regret later or just eat way too much. a little hunger can be ignored and it will go away, but a big hunger needs to be fed. feed it something good. something nourishing without being too calorie dense. my favorite is ground turkey. it's cheap, filling, and low calorie.
>>
>>76690315
post body
>>
>>76689471
>it IS going to be super tasty
you might not think so now but in a week you will be craving a big bowl of it. the best way to get extra flavor into the veggies is to cook them with the meat in the same pan so they absorb some of the juices and add a little spice to the whole thing (just salt and pepper is good). it's very easy to overcook veggies so you add them after the meat is already mostly cooked. if you're doing them separately or trying to avoid fat, get a george foreman grill for cooking the meat. it's fast and all the grease just drains away. the veggies should be crisp and not soggy and soft. it takes practice to cook veggies well.
>>
>>76690366
there's nothing wrong with losing a shit ton of weight in a short period of time. yeah you can hurt your organs, okay, but staying fat is way worse. if it were easy to lose a lot of weight quickly, i'd never do it any other way.

fasting is free, there's nothing to shill. historically, humans have had to survive extended periods with out much or any food. of course it's works. most major cultures and religions have some kind of fasting practice be it for religious or health reasons.

Consistency > everything else.
If you lost a lot of weight quickly the odds of you keeping it off reduces dramatically. If you lose weight with the minimum willpower possible (almost zero, you only need the decision to start, then it's all doing) you are set up for long term success.
>>
>>76690522
I don't understand why instead of fasting, just portion out your meal in small bits throughout the day, you'll be easily matching the calories of your massive "refeed" by just pacing out the meals, and you won't have to deal with the extended periods of hunger

Not him but it is because eating a small meal will make me even hungrier than eating nothing. You dont need a refeed anyway, I've gone one or 2 day fasts and just broke my fast with whatever meal I usually eat when I'm not fasting
>>
>>76690538
You might have confused me with someone else but here's my experience with fasting.

Lost most of my weight with intermittent fasting and weight lifting, basically just a light breakfast and a decent sized main meal. Lost 45kg, never got that hungry until I needed to be under 1500kcals to lose more fat at a decent rate. Smaller deficits were extremely slow compared to before when I was obese. You have to be so much more meticulous. One snack throws off a whole days deficit. Holidays and birthdays undo a weeks worth of dieting. Natural water weight fluctuations make it hard to see if you're even losing fat. You are almost constantly hungry, especially if you have to keep lifting.

So real fasting was an easy next step. I actually found it easier. Only got hunger signals around the time I would normally eat, then they just go away. Really easy with black coffee. Seems to vary from person to person but 0kcal was easier than 1500kcal for me. I only did 24-72 hours fasts so I never really did anything special for the refeed, just my normal meals but smaller portions. After the longer 72 hours fasts my stomach shrunk a lot. Even a small salad that I would normally eat as a side was enough to make me completely full, that sick to your stomach feeling. So I couldn't even binge if I wanted to.

Definitely lost some muscle and strength because I lost weight too fast with it. The fast weight loss was too addicting. I wouldn't recommend it if you think you might get addicted to it. If I did it again, I would eat more protein in between fasts and keep strength training with the same weights but drop some of the volume to retain more muscle. And stick to shorter 24-48 hour fasts only to lose weight more slowly.

Fasting won't work for everyone's lifestyle but if you can fit 1 or 2 days a week, that's huge deficit so you can maintain or lose weight really easily without feeling hungry all the time. These days I do cardio as well.
>>
>>76690538
It's obvious you haven't ever done a fast. You get used to the hunger. Yeah, it's still there, but it disappears into the background. You still get hungry spacing out meals, so it's not like that's an actual advantage. I find not eating for extended periods a much easier approach than having to weigh everything, and specifically construct meals for weight loss. It's just a different approach to cico. Anyone not retarded is also not doing big refeeds, that's literally the opposite of what you're supposed to do, that's just setting yourself up for failure. The real reason to avoid fasting is the sleep issues that literally everyone gets, and that tend to fuck with you long term, and if you're actually active, lifting and anything that's actually hard on your body and needs recovery gets really hard to impossible.
>>
>>76689038
you tell us anon
>>76690538
I'm fasting 16/8, I skip breakfast and I'm fine with it cause I'm not hungry in the morning, I was eating because "muh most important meal of the day" and I was eating sugary stuff cause that was easy to eat
I sometimes get hungry one hour before lunch when I start work early but otherwise no hunger at all
>>
>>76690315
I've found that fasting alone has minimal benefits, I agree. However when combined with something like keto or another restrictive diet it really does add a positive benefit
>>
>>76690639
I'm in the same boat, doing 16:8 IF with my feeding window from Noon-8pm. Trying to eventually get to 18:6 from Noon-6pm, but the extra couple hours help with flexibility depending on what's going on that day. Usually I'll get the biggest hunger pangs around 10-10:30am, thankfully black coffee/green tea doesn't break your fast and helps suppress appetite and gets me though that last stretch

I thought I'd feel like a quitter, a ngmi, -something-, but it actually felt good to take it easy for a change. Think I might just take a week off, no running, no 10k step walks, no lifting, just rest, relax, and recover, see how I feel. Had a very nice day out with some friends, but holy fuck alcohol is the death of diets.

I tried roughly remembering what I drank yesterday:
- Apple cider 150ml
- White wine (anywhere from 2l to 3l)
- Beer (Pils) 500ml
- Apple cider with water 500ml
- More white wine (150ml)
- Sambuca (40 ml)
- A guiness (570ml)
And that's the lower bound, I'm sure there's a bunch I don't remember properly, safe to assume like another liter of beer in there and some shots. That's like 2000 kcals just from drinks, plus obviously drunk me made bad choices and had a giant pizza too.
I gotta do a fast or something. Don't even want to imagine how much this will fuck with my metabolism.

I don't regret it because it was a nice evening and we had fun, but goddamn these evenings have to stay rare or I'm losing a ton of progress.

If it's a place that makes them for breakfast buffet in bulk they usually overcook them and then store them in a steamed container which gives that certified "rubber tire" consistency. If they make them to order they should range from "meh" to "great" usually.

You deserve a break, but you must make sure it's limited in time, set yourself a deadline or something. It's easy to lose control otherwise.
>>
>>76690940
I wish it was just that. I have noted down basically everything. Unless the oil i used once or twice had 6million calories in it, I just don't see how it adds up.

I imagine it's just the body holding onto water or something, and it'll go down eventually. But, it's very demoralizing not to have the constant dopamine hits of a number changing.
>>
>>76690986
>Unless the oil i used once or twice
NTA, but you not logging oil of all things makes me think you may not be as accurate as you think in your tracking. Most people (me included) are not.
>I imagine it's just the body holding onto water or something, and it'll go down eventually. But, it's very demoralizing not to have the constant dopamine hits of a number changing.
Definitely possible. Just keep course and if nothing keeps happening for too long, try something to shake stuff up. A short fast, more exercise, or a bit of further reduction of your caloric intake.
I know about myself that I'm not perfect with logging every little thing, so I just deducted that headroom from my daily allowed kcals so I don't have to worry about it. Works well for me, won't work well for others. It's all about finding things that work for yourself in the end.
>>
got my blood test results back, all 30 or so chemicals were within the healthy range including testosterone (was halfway in the below average range). I guess I’m not suffering from a testosterone deficiency like I thought.

Is getting an air fryer worth it to cook frozen veggies? I'm trying to roast them in a normal oven but even if I cook them until the outsides blacken they are stitll mushy and kind of gross. Would I get better results with an air fryer?

I log oil as a monthly thing and just divide it by the days so every day has the same amount of oil and I imagine it'll be empty by the end of the month and on an averaged basis kind of make sense.

>>
>>76691146
Depends, too much salt is definitely bad for you if you ingest so much it throws off your sodium/water ratio, that said most people aren't going to willingly ingest that much salt without their body physically rejecting it. For fatties like us, sweating our asses off, eating less, its far more likely that we're depriving ourselves salt and to maintain our electrolyte levels we should probably be supplementing rather than avoiding salt.

I was in a similar boat anon. I made the switch to flavored seltzer water and have never looked back. Gives me the same feeling I like from diet soda but with no calories or anything but carbonated water.

Give it a shot some time. No need to buy the fancy shit, the store-brand seltzer water is the exact same for way cheaper

if you ate 6 eggs every day, you will:
>lose weight
>increase your testosterone
>increase your muscle mass (if you're lifting, if you aren't you'll still increase muscle mass but far less)
>have lower anxiety

nope. getting the disgusting fat off of your body is job one. it doesn't matter how it's done. plenty of people have lost weight quickly and kept it off. assuming someone will fail and scaring them with talk of loose skin and health problems just keeps them fat.

if you stay fat too long, a doctor will amputate your feet because diabetes will eat away at them. the possible risks of losing weight "too fast" far outweigh the real risks of staying fat- diabetes, heart disease, depression, cancer, etc.

in my experience, even the people who get loose skin prefer how they look with it than how they looked when they were fat. and then the loose skin goes away over time anyway.
