Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.

Haven't eaten sugar since Christmas. Let my emotions get best of me because of some family drama and bought some junk. It was sickeningly sweet, that pistachio frosting was the fakest shit I have ever tasted. Made my stomach turn but I still ate a third of it. The last piece of research I read on this claimed that prior studies of muscle loss vs. non-maintenance were somewhat flawed, and the rate of loss was not as much as reported, also, and depends on conditioning, with more conservation if you have substantial muscle, and less if you were relatively unconditioned, as here I assume the test subjects were not athletes, and alternate day fasting could be expected to cause somewhat severe (perceived) stress to the system, but I don't doubt the results. Alternate day fasting for 4 weeks means 14 days of not eating anything. This will trigger neurological cascades (not least of which, one reason being you are going in and out of keto every 48 hours.) that will fuck up everything from metabolism to peristalsis periodicity to patterns of neurological signaling.

Also, to evaluate lean muscle mass loss you need to know what the error rate and standard deviation of the test methods.

In general, on principle with normal diets and physiology you should expect a lot of conservation of the more expensive muscle (assuming you eat every day with sufficient calories) with a lot more epigenetic conservation in more conditioned cohorts , and perhaps less in unepigenetically modified sedentary subjects.

And then, you have to take into account the uncertainty (SD) depending on the method (if the error bars on a 0.8kg difference are relatively high, we can't be as certain as to the effect.)

Greek yogurt is an excellent multitasker.
Makes a great ranch dressing:

I was heavily skeptical,(as with ALL doctors these days,) but she presents the scientific backing for it, and isn't trying to sell you anything. With the exception of Beef being so expensive, the advice she's giving actually reduces the food costs for me significantly, since I'd already been OMAD for a decade,(not low-carb at all,) and the levels of satiety were very high within the first 3 days.
My basic cost for food is less than $10/day and that's eating a considerable amount of chicken, pork and fish, Cheese, yogurt, and fats like butter, EVOO, and Avocado oil every day.

I've noticed that on days where I did not drink enough water the day before, my weight does not move as much compared to days where I drank enough water the day before.
By that I mean if I drank enough water today, my weight tomorrow will likely what I expect it to be based on my deficit. But if I didn't drink enough water today, tomorrow it's likely to have moved less than expected.
What's going on there? Is my body trying to hold on to the water because I didn't give it enough?

Essentially yes. Pretend your cells have arms that want to grab water molecules. These cells need to be able to grab enough water molecules in order to prevent them from drying out. They do not want to give these molecules up easily when there aren’t enough replacements readily available.

So when your body has to get rid of wastes, or do anything else requiring water, it’ll have to work harder for less output. Since you’re outputting less, the scale moves slower.

Started out almost 200 lbs., pretty severely overweight for my height. Realized I needed to make a change when I started getting severe heartburn. It’s been about six months since I really committed to unfucking my life and I’m down 40lbs - I think I’m going slower than a lot of you guys, but this is the first time I’ve actually kept weight off. My friends have commented on my stomach looking smaller, and for the first time in my life I can fit into cute bras instead of ugly beige grandma bullshit. More importantly, I don’t feel like a slug. I can go places and do things and it’s not a federal issue or something I have to budget energy for.
I don’t know if I have an end point in mind, but I’m really happy I can do shit I enjoy and spend time with my friends without getting winded now. Also just found the cord to my elliptical, so that’s fun.
Again, sorry for the rambling. Thanks for the resources, this thread has been really helpful on my journey. I hope all of you meet your goals, I’m rooting for you.

Winter nighttime is torture. I'm down 15 pounds from a month ago just by going full ketogenic and pounding water and salts. (I only have 30 pounds to get rid of,) I hate to keep shilling these vids, but they are worth a look at least since she's an MD, isn't shilling products, and can actually SAVE you lots of money on food if you aren't buying the overpriced steak or can get it direct from local farmers.
Chicken, pork and eggs are pretty decently priced, and by shopping ALDI , my weekly food bill is less than $100/week and I DON'T feel hungry all the time even though I'm OMAD.
Cheese, Greek yogurt, cream, butter, leafy greens, cabbage, onions, romaine(wraps,) and celery are my base ingredients other than the meat.
Just make sure you have a decent assortment of herbs and spices and maybe get some good bullion cubes or jar bases, since soups are a great source of water, salts and satiety which is KEY in being able to keep on it.
You don't have to do it forever either. Just by using food as you medicine instead of a $1300 a box of gutshots, you'll be way ahead in health and in your bank account.

I definitely wouldn’t get enough protein in if it weren’t for water soluble collagen peptides.

I mix them into my tea or coffee for an easy 20g per cup. Another option is a clear protein powder. “Clear” liquids are those that are fat free and able to be completely pissed out essentially.
