>Who is /fat/ for?
For Desert destroyers who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

idk what was wrong with me before now, this is really quite easy
I think I was just addicted to eating and snacking as something to do when bored or stressed

I don't think I can convey just how much I am looking forward to the first time my weight on the scale begins with 2.
It's been at least 12 years. Most of that was spent in the 300+ range, then in the 400+ for the past two years.
I hope everyone here is doing well this week.

12 kg in 4 months while on a 1000 kcal low-carb/low-fat diet is an incredibly lame result.

Is it usual to use single-use foil dishes? I've always wondered that. To me it gives the superior home cooked meal that cheap store bought bulk look.
>>
>>77256631
The only use case for them is taking home cooked food to other people's houses or events and not having to worry about losing your good containers/baking dishes. That's it.

>>
>>77256638
Very odd we don't see them in Europe... I mean we have the same tradition, but perhaps the amount of food is just so much smaller? And the containers are usually returned cleaned, a good reason for a continued visit. But that dish looks like something to cater a wedding. We'd use the professional steel ones or just a professional caterer in that case.
>>
>>77256653
I imagine professional catering does it for the same reason of not needing to manage dozens or hundreds of their dishes scattered across multiple events with hundreds of strangers at each one potentially stealing them. But also because the host paying for the catering would want to take home any leftovers anyway.

Started getting a lot more likes on dating app (USA liberal medium pop city) since I lost weight.

5'8, asian, initial weight 200 lbs, current weight 155. Because I'm asian, it fucked up my health 3-4x harder where I could barely get up the stairs and looked like the ugliest nigga known to mankind with some insane face fat.

I got the most likes once that paper towel effect came into play, 200 to 175 was nothing other than fat off my belly (no likes), 175 to 166 was slightly more fat off my face and belly (no likes), 166 to 155 was where I made the most face gains, got 3 likes in less than 48 hours but I decided to pause my account because I'm traveling soon.

The goal is to lose another 8-10 pounds then start gymming for a v-taper broader shoulders.

>whassat
the quick and dirty of it is "the closer you are to a healthy weight, the more obvious each few pounds of weight loss become to the outsider"

ex: starting weight 300 and you lose 50, minor differences in appearance outside of the belly fat and maybe arms, not too noticeable except to close friends. face is still fat as fuck.

160 to 150 (assuming 5'8+), your body lacks the readily available fat at the easy locations (belly, arms, legs) to take from and is forced to take it away from your face/chin/neck.
>>

just take ozempic fatty
>>
>>77256729
I know this is a shit post but I'll respond to it genuinely: ozempic is great, though some people financially cannot afford it. For those of you wondering what it is like to be on it, imagine you're on a 1300 cal diet, by 9pm you're just craving for something to shove into your body because you're so hungry. With ozempic, you don't have that food noise at all the moment you eat lunch. It's a great tool to touch base with your relationship with food if you have the money for it.
>>
>>77256200
Sorry to say no amount of weight loss will get your a gf bud. To make 5'10" work you've got to rich, absolutely shredded, with a perfect face, great hair, and a infectious personality. You'd have a shot if you were 6'0" or higher.
>>
>>77256733
did you take it?
>>
>>77256735
Yeah and I got off it too. I've lost weight through CICO prior to all this ozempic glp1 craze, 30 pounds in 10 weeks through raw force of will, chicken thighs and broccoli everyday with 40 minutes of incline threadmill a day. One of the hardest journeys of my life. Tried ozempic, shit was fucking easy to lose the same amount.
>>
>>77256734
weak bait
>>
>>77256738
>>77256735
Extra note: with ozempic, you can grab a subway sandwich footlong that is approximately 1200 calories, eat half for lunch, eat half for dinner. What ozempic is really good at is making you feel like shit (nauseous) for several hours if you eat too much at once. It changes your average day from "yo bro fuuuuuck I want to eat so bad" which is a 8 hour back and forth if you're a obese guy to "I need to eat 300 more calories to hit my 1500 goal, I'll drink two protein shakes or something..."

It's a PAY TO WIN method that is heavily gated by bmi requirements and the whims of the health insurance to offer it for free or heavy discount, assuming you're in the USA. If you go down the telehealth route (which I did) it's somewhat cheaper at aprx 200/month.

I have to stress it again, it's PAY TO WIN.

If you don't fix your relationship with food during the process, you will gain the weight back. Ozempic gives you the opportunity to fix it, but if you don't take it, then you gain it back.

Everything you do on a regular CICO is the same thing you'd do on ozempic, there's no difference. You'd still do strength training and you'll still count your calories and protein, but pay more attention to fiber because ozempic slows digestion which easily leads to constipation.

No, if we are not lying on purpose like you are, then pretending CICO was created by a shady conspiracy of sugar producers "proven" by one image spammed by a mentally ill individual stops being an option.

CICO is what empirical evidence and research in the past 100 years has shown to be true.

The obesity epidemic is caused by 2 things

1. People being fat more sedentary than they were in the past. People used to walk places, play sports, and engage in physical activity in general far more often

2. Processed food is literally designed to make you hungry, eat more, and buy more. That's why junk food companies are freaking out about GLP drugs and trying to create new foods that make GLP takers hungry.

Not to mention there used to be far less "ready made" food. Food is too easily accessed now.

breaking a 11 day fast with that much food is a good way to die from refeeding syndrome

Yeah I personally never took a fast longer than 5 days. 11 days is extreme.

nah ozempic is expensive, also it seems like ozempic makes you look like a shriveld potato, biggest gains i got while trying to lose weight is actually money, pretty insane how much i spend because I was lazy and ordering food

To avoid adaptive thermogenesis and a general ramping down of your metabolism, you could probably do it for two weeks with no problem as long as afterwards you ate at maintenance for a week or two just to get back to baseline. Otherwise, after that, you'll be spinning your wheels and endlessly have to decrease your calories more and more of every rapidly to maintain weight loss.
>>
>>77258672
>that much food
110 grams of protein isn't even 450 calories.

it doesn't just stop. it takes that much time to ramp up, but then it stays continuous for the rest of the fast

pickle them, that way they lose their nasty sulfuric aftertaste, and they taste better depending on which spices you put in the brine

I have started eating much healthier for the past three weeks, and exercising (fairly intensive rowing).

I'm not on any specific diet, but just eating moderate amounts of fruits, vegetables, checking, fish, etc.

I now constantly smell very strong of vinegar, and apparently that's because of ketosis, so my body is burning fat.
I suppose it's going to last until I've lost all the fat I need to burn?
>>
>>77258844
You might want to increase slightly your calorie intake if you're hungry and thinking this.

I eat 1500 calories a day and almost never feel hunger discomfort.
>>
>>77258965
It's propably not ketosis, just the release of ketones. It'll balance out in time when your bodyfat% drops to a certain amount. Once you get settled into high proton diet you'll smell of ammonia.
>>
I really feel the only reason the fat loss meds work is because it fundamentally changes the way you think of food in a way that you can't just force through sheer willpower alone. Think about a heroin addict how once they tried it, that's it the bug is in their brain and they'll never forget, the temptation is always there. Imagine if you could give them a medicine that biologically makes them forget. Instant cure, so long as they're on that medicine. That's what GLP-1s etc do for someone addicted to food. I've experienced it with tirzepatide myself and the difference is profound. It's like suddenly you stop thinking about eating 24/7 and things become so clear. Then you realize, this is exactly how normal skinny people feel naturally and you stop caring about the negativity surrounding taking those medicines and just do what's best for you. I wish I was still taking it but my insurance dropped it from their formulary because of some deal with the makers of Ozempic/Wegovy which I know is objectively worse than tirzepatide, AND they make you jump through hoops to get prior authorization for this worse shit to boot. Fucking horse shit.
>>
>>77258553
That's a good idea, i wish I had done the same. Im taking the goal setting approach, first half marathon next week then training for a full marathon, keeps me focused especially where I'm at the point that I'm trying to build muscle and recomp as opposed to just losing fat.

Guys, when you've become so used to the taste of good food and stuffing yourself, how do you go back to normal portions? I tried to eat normal food and it felt bland. When I try eating smaller portions, I feel like I'm still hungry.
Another problem is, when I'm dieting, my mood becomes much more worse and I become more irritable.
>>
>overeat yesterday
>made sure to push PBs and do extra sets in my exercise today

Might as well make use of the overeating even if it was junk food.
>>
>>77259173
tl;dr: it takes time. Eat the bland food, your palate will adjust over time.
"good food" can mean anything. Personally you can make really healthy and fairly low calorie meals pretty easily; for example, I make a turkey chili that is ~500-600 calories for a MASSIVE bowl that I can barely finish, and has really good macros. Compare that to a 2000 calorie sub from subway/jersey mikes I can finish in one meal easily with shitty macros. So for "good food", I'd say focus on recipes that have high volume/low calories. There are 1001 salad variations that all taste different from each other. Mediterranean recipes are fairly plant-based with great macros. If you stop eating super-palatable food, your taste buds will adjust. I used to drink a ton of mountain dew; I stopped for years, and when I drank one again, I could barely drink it because it tasted so sugary. Same with fast food; they all taste super salty/greasy now, it's hard to down that type of food like I used to.
As far as portion size, I found that intermittent fasting/OMAD completely erased my ability to eat a ton at once. It'll take some time and won't happen overnight, but it will work.
>>
>>77259234
I guess I meant more taste-intensive food, junk food instead of good food. And its not that my healthy food is bland. But, I get sick and tired of having the same thing everyday, when instead I could have binged on some junk food.
>>
>>77259080
i'm not sure what i'm looking at. they're making GLP-1 tablets now?

avoid starchy carbs. maximize protein.
you can go for recomp by eating at maintenance instead of bulking. imo, bulking is a meme.

that is one of the core ideas in the book you posted. you don't know the author?
>John A. McDougall (May 17, 1947 – June 22, 2024) was an American physician and author. He wrote a number of diet books advocating the consumption of a low-fat vegan diet based on starchy foods and vegetables.

he was a vegan (dead now)

I take bits and pieces from various authors. This one just like the blue zone studies being that a diet high in carbs is good for you. This isn't to say that eating high carbs is ideal for someone who's trying to add muscle mass like the guy we were trying to help. It's merely a response to you saying to avoid starches. Don't, just eat more protein - that should be his focus.

>>
>>77259685
that anon was scared to bulk (rightfully so imo). he needs to minimize starchy carbs. this is the standard recommendation for recomp and lean bulk.
i don't believe in a one size fits all diet. different things work for different people.
i have not read his book nor am i about to listen to an upjumped vegan zealot's tedious ramblings but the interwebs say he says
>muh Asians thrived - while conveniently forgetting about the mongols shitting on them
>muh calorie density you can eat a lot and feel full - while forgetting some people LOVE rice and never get full
>muh environment - eat ze bugs
potatoes are S tier though so they get a pass.
