I don't want to use Debian, shit installer and old packages, all CLI system management

I don't want to use arch, shit CLI installer, breakages and unstable

I don't want to use fedora, broken and needs codecs retardation out of the box is broken

I don't want to use opensuse, killing off yast for no reason something that works for 20+ years now fragmenting

I don't want to use mint, cinnamon sucks, ugly blue grey guhnome theming, nemo is slower than windows 10 FM, no KDE plasma and the devs are mentally I'll and don't care about their spins

I don't want to use arch derivatives, mentally ill shit like cachyOS or endeavour OS. Idiotic forks with no future

I don't want to use kubuntu or ubuntu. Broken snaps and apt package manager integrated with snaps by default.

Linux still supports hardware mixing for multiple sources playing simultaneously. In practice, nobody cares aside from creators of embedded devices where shit like this will spike the CPU to 30%.

ALSA is the way to do Audio on Linux, it’s how the Kernel exposes audio hardware to userspace.; Everything else sits on top because ALSA is barebones and exists to expose hardware to user space, not manage application audio. ALSA will always be available, but you lose a lot of the niceties like audio routing, session management and so on.
>>
>>107692501
windows users are hopelessly retarded, virtually nobody uses a sound card in 2025

>Put sound device in a noise filled environment like the interior of your PC instead of a nice small box in a noise free space connected via USB
Soundcards were cool in the 90s but now every profesional audio equipment is USB, if you really care about audio quality you'd get rid of the sound card and get a good quality USB audio interface instead.

Truth
No one uses this memelang
All the threads starting flame wars about Zig, Jonathan Blowjob or Odin are just shill threads for shitty memelangs nophono cares about
The only things you need are C#, Java, C++ and Rust
Everything else “solves” a non-issue
>>
>>107689402
Personally, I don't like the categorization of "C/C++ replacement". Modern C++ is enormously complex and, when used idiomatically, looks very different from C. That's why I see Rust and Zig as filling different niches. Rust is a C++ replacement, an already very complex language with extra features being added each version. Zig is a C replacement, a simpler language focused on manual control.
I like many things about Rust, like the trait syntax and sum types, but I'm not completely sold on the borrow checker. But the real reason I avoid the language is social. The community is full of deranged ideological shill types. I don't mean flooding formerly technical forums with leftist politics and getting people who object canceled, though they do that too. I mean that they are very ideological about Rust, which makes it very hard to get a reasonable assessment of the language's weaknesses.
>>
>>107694894
What if you use Zig for the low level metal stuff and Rust for what’s above that?

the only two problems i've had with fedora is codecs preventing an update and btrfs fucking everything up (requiring manual intervention with a live usb, i.e. not something i've always got access to)

ubuntu seems to not have these problems

try debian, it is the best simply because it's a distribution that doesn't try to babysit you like fedora, but is very independent (very minded distro) and stable, meaning you don't need to babysit it as you do with arch. besides the big repos and its lts nature, deb gives you space and peace of mind to learn (about everything) at your own pace, and be comfortable while doing so.

be carefull tho, if you dont align to its proposals it can be a pain, you need to know some workarounds to get new software and for emulation/games, there are videos around teaching them. try it out on live and use the netinstall if youre going to install.
>>
>>107694564
would you still recommend it if i plan to install more up to date nvidia drivers than what 13 stable comes with? i know people tend to have opinions on stuff like backports
>>
>>107694403
>how big of a problem is snaps really?
Not a huge problem desu. It's just hard to recommend Ubuntu when Linux Mint is similar in many ways but doesn't pull this kind of shit. It's not about Ubuntu being super terrible, it's about there being a better alternative.
>>
>>107694581
Not that anon, but in my experience installing stuff from backports works fine. It's running a frankendebian, not backports, that requires more experience and willingness to debug.

Apple is serious about security; they invest a lot in white hat hackers. What’s the Linux Foundation’s budget for this?
>>

There is a greater incentive to ensure security for Linux as it's more important infrastructure than a macOS computer. A budget is not necessary as a lot is free and open source that even Apple has greatly benefited from.

Very NICE. Be sure not to turn into a raging NNNNNNNNNNN FAGGOT when something requires a little WORK and doesn't just tickle your nuts like ur mom's muff does mine, son. You stand at a crossroads that many of come to before. Some discovered a magical wonderland, and others walked into a hell of their own making due to demands that reality conform to their warped desires which they believed to be justified. MEHOAPS you shall discover THA MAGIC because the magic is certainly there to be discovered. _ TIP: If you do not like GNU PLUS LINUX it is because you are a NNNNNNNN FAGGOT and not because of any faults inherent to GNU PLUS LINUX itself.
