Software engineering will be a solved problem by the end of the decade

Even better, name problems that cannot be solved by omnipotent AGI but can be solved by humans.
>>
>>107625674
You missed the point. It wasn't about the omnipotent AGI it was about not being able to solve problems with what you consider to be a computer nowadays (turing-machines)

I just used "omnipotent agi" as a way to say someone smart enough to code exactly what it needs to display that you can simply never solve everything by our current programming languages, no matter what code you write.

Turing machines have limitations and lots of things in the universe aren't computable by turing machines. quantum computers are also turing machines, and honestly I believe the human brain is also likely to be (merely) a turing machine. But super-turing machines are theoretically possible to create.

It's kind of bizarre that a place like /g/ or even "serious" computer scientists with PhDs in this stuff genuinely believe shit like "If we solve programming we will solve everything". People just assume you can describe everything and solve every issue with our current turing-complete programming languages. Not even realizing there is complexity and a huge problem space outside of the turing machine domain.
>>
>>107625781
My claim is that everything that is solvable can be solved eventually by an AI that is a superhuman software engineer.

I cannot think of a counterexample and it seems like neither can you.

You're still supposed to make the design decisions.

What is the deal with the Anti-AI derangement syndrome? I don't like to judge people, but the anti-AI seem to include an evenly distribution of furries, twitter "artists", people with funny hair color, and a poor understanding of economy.

I don't understand how I was talked out of buying a 5700X3D last Christmas, it's impossible to do so for some time now below $300 and phishing scams are rampant, many gamers have fallen for them in my country lately.

I'm tempted to get a TKL so I can have more mouse space. I would buy a separate numpad thoughever

Looking for recommendations for a basic bitch mechanical gaming keyboard.

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. I do have them spinning 24/7, yes. I also run a bunch of services which may have some activity here and there, some (torrents, access to VM disk images) more than others (things that do a periodic library scan). If I allowed HDDs to spin down they would need to spin up again very frequently, not to mention that the applications using them would experience fuckhuge latency spikes while the drives spin up.

I'm just a home user so it's not like I have massive data sets on hand, but in my experience HDDs do well with constant spinning and don't fail frequently.

So what's the deal with everyone hating on Rust?
The usual points people bring up are:
>wokism
>tranny language
>made by jews
>it's a cult

Disregarding the aforementioned points, can you tell me actual reasons for why a safe(r) programming language like Rust shouldn't be adopted more widely?

You need to realize that the vast, vast majority of this board are unemployed NEETs, and even fewer have a job where they are actually writing programs. They can't make any arguments about what it means to actually ship code, or product life cycles, working with PM, balancing bugs and features, or basically anything related to working on software outside of the language used.

Once you realize this, the reason for the banality of PL discussion on this board is obvious.

I actually think we should merge with /lmg/ because some things (like discussion of text encoders for example) are 100% overlap between the two threads, and /lmg/ is mostly dead since local LLMs are a non-starter for any use case including private erotica (getting a zero-data-retention Claude endpoint is trivial)

This obviously won't happen, so I'll share my other opinion which is that I don't really care that much. I call all my tissues Kleenex and I call all my felt markers Sharpies, so I don't have a problem refering to generative visual AI as "diffusion" colloquially

State of the art image to video is probably one of the Chinese models like Kling or Wan or See dream in that case. Haven't touched SaaS since Sora since it's all expensive and poopy and watermarked so you'll have to do some research on that yourself.
