Pick Fedora or Debian if you want to be safe. Mint is also good but Cinnamon is not probably the greatest for gayming.
In the end the first 3 months are a learning process and you'll want to change/and or commit again after this period perhaps.

it's still a locked down platform that is a pain in the ass to support and consumer-hostile, see asahi linux troubles to get everything working on various M generations.
>But now Intel has nearly caught up with ARM performance on its x86 mobile Lunar Lake chips.
yes because arm, x86, riscv, it really does not matter, cpu these days all have some kind of very similar "internal assembly language" that split all the uops into smaller instructions anyways, it's all about design tradeoffs, amd/intel have been making chips with certains loads in mind and apple with others, it's really all there is to it.
I'm glad to see intel and amd getting into this segment too as we definitely need power efficient and performant chips, it's a shame that it will be bga-only, for now amd allow manufacturers to use soldered or dimm ram but I'm not sure it will last as ram speed get faster and faster... maybe camm2 can save us?
I really want socketable efficient chips even if I lose a bit of efficiency as a trade-off, I'm sure there is a good middle-ground atleast for efficient desktop-class computers like the steam machine design-wise or consoles.

nta, but they actually don't
also, it's not about **their** people, it's about **everyone elses lives**. how many military bases and internet "monitoring centers" (spy centers, satellites, wiretapping of fiber optics cables, hacking datacenters, ...)? how many american corporations are influencing people and intervening markets everywhere? ever heard of the LIBOR scandal? do you think all of this shit doesn't affect people in their daily lives?

why are indians smarter and better at tech than europeans and chinese?

LeCun is really fucking based, he is one of the few that have power and that have the technical knowledge to say out loud that LLMs are a dead end.
Tis a shame that he is still a neural network cuck unable to recognize that neural networks themselves are a dead end, just like symbolic AI was at its time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4__gg83s_Do
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N09C6oUQX5M
>>
>>107743448
If neural nets are a dead end, what do you think researchers should be looking into instead?
>>
>>107743505
They should stop masturbating about stateless mathematical models (because both symbolic AI and neural networks are about logic and math not computing or programming) and start focusing on stateful programs that are actually agentic (in the original sense of the word not in the llm corrupted marketing sense) by having internal state, internal goals and a real model of the world (LeCun is right about this part), all of this not through mathematical models but through programming. If our current languages and databases are not enough then we should make progress there, for example by researching graph databases and new languages that make expressing complex and dynamic rules about the real world possible.
But corpos only want to sell their datacenter services, to them its a feature how inefficient LLMs are, and most researchers are not programmers they are stuck in their bubble of academia writing their papers in their ivory towers.
>>
>>107743634
This guy's proposed alternative to neural nets is better programming languages and databases.
Absolutely fucking kek.

Do you think 16GB RAM is overkill for a NAS hosting Jellyfin and shared network file storing?
>>
>>107742223
no, it's not. you can always find a way to use ram.
>>
>>107742160
I generally don't get why people in this thread regularly go out of their way to get a board without IPMI/equivalent only to then bitch a few threads later that they don't have remote management capabilities on a $100 board from aefuioaheuifiuahefiuahsodpamcsylonjfhiuhwaiughd llc. registered in Ching Chong Street 69, Shenzhen.
I understand not wanting to spend 2k on a new supermicro board or any workstation board really but come the fuck on used and older gen server/workstation boards are dirt fucking cheap.

I'm looking for a low powered nas. Mostly for storage, occasionally for Jellyfin. My current setup is three 5tb drives in a mini drawer attached to a 4-1 USB hub to my linux machine, pic related, which I will continue to use til it dies.

Would a UGREEN NAS DXP2800 be good? A barebones AOOSTAR WTR PRO Intel Twin Lake N150 is the same price, but no ram and ssd. One NVME slot too, though I'm not sure if I'm gonna want a cache drive.

Port Aero to the 40 and 50 series gpus if you want me to even think about Windows 7.

I just bought a 32Gib 512nvme i7-9850H quadro t1000 with a 4k panel for $400 on eBay (and uncle sam fucked me for 40 in taxes and 20 in shipping)--and I am regretting it and wish I bought the cheaper $330 1080p 48gib option but bought this one because I thought that the 4k panel might be good since 1080p is a bit bad for split screen latex but am now regretting it since it will
- Drain battery faster (might take up 20% extra)
- Be a pain to use because I will be forced to set it to 200% scaling for a good experience with my external 1080p monitors (probably, I have never used 4k but xorg will likely strangle me too)
- Cost more
- Doesn't have as much ram
- At 15.6" and normal sitting, I probably won't ever notice

I don't think it has been shipped yet but also don't want to try to return it since that might make me an asshole...I will have to go check if the seller even accepts returns...

I am really crying over this...why is life so hard?

Business hp and dell are quite okay.
Hp has better resilience and software.

As for uefi ThinkPads miss some of hp and dell features, I'm used to.

Ok. For me anything bigger than 13" is too big to really carry around.

It's up to you if you want the 1080p one. It's cheap and p53 is okay for linux and light 3d. Has good connectivity and overall feels ok. Battery life is short compared to similar zbook or precision, at around 1-2h.

If I was poor and destitute I would buy a refurbished chromebook with at least a gemini lake chipset in it and put coreboot on it, they're like $50-60 and would get you by if you're dirt poor, the battery life is also immense at 9-12 hours and the power draw is like 5W with normal use.

They already tried that with CopperheadOS and Daniel blew the key to kingdom come the same day his partner and a shill from a multi national bank were talking about calling local police to raid him, all for refusing to integrate bsuite for DnD. 5 dollar wrench attack is often effective, although I doubt they don't have any mitigations deployed for these scenarios. For example: the ability to sign the builds and distribute them to GrapheneOS servers and stable channel should never be able to be done by the same individual.

All the fags itt screeching against Graphene should provide a better alternative. Oh wait, they can't, because they are larping subhumans for whom both security and privacy are just topics for endless arguments on 4chong, instead of a problem and potential practical solution.

Purely from a business perspective, the way AI companies are moving to buy as much hardware as possible recently is really making me raise an eyebrow.
We know that venture capital funding for these companies is basically gone, AI stocks flatlined over the past few months or, in the case of some like Meta and Oracle, went down quite a bit.
All they can rely on right now is their circular investments and I think what they're trying to do is just turn that cash into real assets with the expectation that the models will just scale themselves, and investors will again be convinced to put money into the system again. This is of course augmented by the fact that companies like Nvidia, AMD, and Micron are the ones giving Open AI and Microsoft hundreds of billions to turn right back around and buy products from Nvidia, AMD, and Open AI.
Throughout the cycle we just haven't been seeing the uncapped colossal buy orders we saw at the end of 2025. So what's the endpoint here? When the manufacturers are paying companies to buy their own products and investors aren't seeing the business turn profitable, what happens next? Where does the fire's fuel come from?
