unless your family is using old windows laptops, what could they possibly need help with? The only time I have been asked for help is 70yo+ people who can't get their Roku working but otherwise have no issue with ipads and iphones.

No. I hate technology. I'm only a programmer because it is the least objectionable job I could find.

Hello everyone, I have an old desktop PC sitting right there doing nothing. I'm trying to give it a reason to exist and evaluating the idea to install Windows 7 on it.
So, can you use Windows 7 in these days? How much do you have to debloat it and uninstall things? And, more important, there's a way to not have it becoming a SECURITY NIGHTMARE?

Relax anon, no one's coming for your outdated operating system.

this thread doesn't automatically pwn a windows 7 machine therefore it's all fearmongering.
>>
>>107658691
I don't buy into this idea of Windows 7 users getting pwned, mainly because there's so few people using it, but I think it's just a retarded thing to do because it's so old and unspported, that while you're computer will still be able to do stuff it currently does, it can't do anything more in the future, and like I said before Windows 7 users are kinda stuck with as new of a computer they can get drivers for... Meanwhile, you can call Linux users trannies, whatever, but this is a non issue, they can get a new computer, they don't worry about their fork of a browser being "mostly up to date", it's fully up to date, Linux has a future, that is pretty good, Windows 7 has no future, and I liked 7 when I could web browse on it supported but it is what it is, Windows is kill unless you're gonna use 11.

They're getting pwned in the sense that get left behind more than anything.

There is no such thing as a native UI on Linux, and """native""" on Windows means of one 8 different UI technologies. Not having a WebUI is not the death of ladybird but it would be nice to have as an option, in my opinion.

>was asking about cases with lots of hard drive and 5 inch bay space in another thread
>anon said Silverstone.
thats all well and good and they look great but I don't want to spend $300+ on a case with features I consider basic. my old fractal define 4 had a 5 inch bay and a whole internal rack of 3.5" bays, PLUS space for two front 120mm fans.
wtf happened to cases like that?
also, most of the silverstone cases go further than that and add locks, indicator lights and shit.
anyway so now I'm looking at cheap chinese cases on alibaba because they're probably pretty good.

Shitposting aside, just use one of the "mainstream" distributions such as Arch, Debian, Mint, etc. Choose whatever you want, nowadays most of them have a pretty straighforward installation process and are easy to use already. Unless you have a really specific usecase, a regular Linux distribution is more than enough for your average Joe. Never fall for these "super ez to use!!" type of distros.
