What is Steam's secret? Why is Steam so succesfull?
>>107731743the 30%. anything else is cope>>107731764steam encourages a culture of blatant consumerism. don't think about anything but the product itself, it's not your problem.it's ubisoft's, until they start solving it with dlcs and paid mods and gacha microtransactions, then it's your problem but not valve's.
>>107732253they were the first to force you to use their store for the gameiow, they were the first to sell you a license to the game that's tied not to the copy on the disk, but an online service.
>>107737021Not true either because Autodesk, Adobe, MMOs and others had online software to buy. Steam did not invented anything new, only copy preexisting ideas.
>>107737129they weren't marketplaces. it's only first party shit. and again the point was steam forced PHYSICAL buyers to use the online storefront, not just the digital ones.

HP-UX hit EOL 12/31/25, no future patches. Not many commercial Unixes left.https://www.osnews.com/story/144094/hp-ux-hits-end-of-life-today-and-im-sad/
The only thing interesting about the platform was the PA-RISC architecture. I've actually used and worked with HP-UX workstations and they're just shitty buggy Unix clones. If you've used any Linux distro or FreeBSD extensively, you didn't miss much.
>>107736012thanks but i'm sticking with GNU's Not Unix

This is kinda sad.>>107736454They always had some kind of mystique. The Unix workstation that didn't become a meme. The one that was just a workhorse for whoever got to work with them. But maybe that's the difference. I never worked with them. To you it was just a shitty tool. For me it's something I wish I could have known.
>>107736012not a closed-source Unix expert, but RIP to the last OS of any kind that still had Itanium support for whatever reason. You know it's fucked when not even NetBSD gives a shit about it
Is it actually better than just using the web chat interface?
>>107736306As as I can tell running it, it is limited to the folder you run it in and incessantly asks if it is allowed to run commands, read files etc. Course I haven't checked out the code to verify this, but this is as it appears. Also if you are gpumaxxing you can run claude code router and point it to a local llama.cpp instance and try out your own models. They are dumb, slow and don't work anywhere near as well, but it may depend on your use case.

RIP Stewart; he was one of the last remaining links to a bygone era where home computing was genuinely exciting and Silicon Valley wasn't a neofeudalist wasteland, and even if I only got to experience the tail end of it myself, I'll always appreciate that he and Gary Kildall managed to document it so extensively as it was happeningCoincidentally, some guy from HN with an AIslop profile picture was digitizing and uploading lost Computer Chronicles episodes to the Internet Archive a month or two ago, but I haven't looked into them yet: https://archive.org/details/@davidga/lists/2/computer-chronicles-re-digitization-project

>Thinking it's almost time for a clean install of windows>See that there's an option in windows to "reset my PC," removing my apps and keeping my documents and files>Decide to try it instead of doing it with a thumb drive like I usually do>It barely frees up any storage>It fucks up all of my settings>It introduces a bunch of bugs that I've never even seen before>It basically does nothing but delete steam and also fucks a bunch of random shit up for no reason>Essentially just a "break windows and waste time" button>All of the apps it said it would remove are still there>Still have to do a fresh install except now I need to do it immediatelyNothing works anymore
