I want to learn how to make android apps. Where do I start. So far I've looked at the Android Basics with Compose Course https://developer.android.com/courses/android-basics-compose/courseI'm proficient with running and using LLMs (local and SaaS so I think that might help me a little bit.. yes I know I have a lot to learn but I'm willing to put time and effort into it.Current relevant hardware I have is an M4 max MacBook pro. I already have Android Studio installed as well as vs code and local LLM servers (I primarily use llama-server whenever possible)
The new beta release fugged up the app, just goes to a black screen
If someone could post the crashlogs I would fix it in 5 minutes. It doesn't crash for me so I have no idea how to reproduce it thus cannot fix it.
Test
Which update broke the app?3.36.1?
Testing stable release
Looks like everything is in order, settings imported fine, had to reinstall mpv libraries however
PNG supports HDR now.Pretty cool, right?
>>107834187>You can view it if you own an HDR monitor.why would i need a special monitor or image format support for hdr?HDR is about image capture, in cameras. Like wtf?
>>107834198I hear Safari 26 supports HDR
>>107837099It's completely backwards compatible. Earlier devices will just read the base PNG portion and ignore the HDR extras.

whats so difficult about hdr support tho>heres a pixel with some values>program : is that more bits than usual? aaaaaaaaaaahhh what do I do?

How come C# isn't more popular when it's basically Java but better? Is it because people distrust a language maintained by Microsoft, or does the JVM have non-obvious but crucial advantages over the CLR?
>>107834144Java's entire schtick is that it's cross platform. C# only exists on windows desktop (desktop is a tiny fraction of the software market) and windows server (windows has a small minority share of the server OS market)
>>107840376>(windows has a small minority share of the server OS market)those kinds of stat charts only point to public web servers, and maybe databasesWindows Server is used for a lot of enterprise software which isn't exposed to the internet or advertised online. C#, being a Java clone, also shares its primary use case of web-enabled enterprise softwarepretty much all companies use Active Directory and other Microsoft/Office/SharePoint stuff, all of which run on Windows Server
>>107834339The standard library has generally very nice naming conventions. But go try explain the difference between NET Framework, .NET Core and .NET (by which I mean .NET 5 and up)..NET in itself is already a godawful name for a general purpose computing platform that isn't really focused on web shit at all.
>>107838989And remember, Microsoft was waging a proxy war on Linux via SCO at the time C# arrived. It was not just Windows only, it was hostile to other platforms for a long time. Everyone assumed the Mono developers would eventually be sued out of existence by Microsoft.
What's the consensus on msbuild when it comes to C# development?Usually I see people hating on it, although I'm not sure if that comes more from C++ devs working with it.I had to get a little bit more in-depth with it recently, and I found it to be rather pleasant.Modern msbuild is very flexible and expressive.and consise IMO.I do hate how the most popular IDE for csharp (VS) basically hides all that flexibility from the average dev cause they wanna give people fucking GUIs to configure their builds, and solution files are an absolute disaster even with the recent modernization efforts. But ignoring those is easy if you don't use VS and then you just have a good (and starndardized) build system. It being standardized is also worth alot.
If you want a tablet and also want to draw, should you get an iPad or a Samsung tablet?
>>107839679Quite a few don't use facial recognition actually, they use fingerprint scan. Even the latest base model iPad and current iPad Mini use either fingerprint or passcode.
What about linux supportIs it easy to transfer files from an iPad to linux?I see that the wacom instant pen display feature is not available on linux
>>107840325If it's USB C, I'm pretty sure it connects like a mass storage device. At worst you just plug in a USB C SSD into the iPad and transfer to that first.

can Windows 11 be redeemed after all?
No
>>107840772Sadly AI isn't the only problem with Windows 11, even if you remove all that garbage you'd still have a file explorer and a start menu fundamentally broken and slow as hell written in javascript. Can you get a working system if you tinker enough? Probably. Is it worth it when you can just keep using Windows 10, which at least has a working file explorer? I don't think so.

>>107840772Windows 11 is free if your time is worthless
Windows 8 was unironically better than Windows 11. Microsoft accounts were still optional, and classic shell gave you the desktop experience. It worked better than Windows 7 when it came to UEFI and NVME.

What's the point of NixOS if I can just write shell scripts for setting everything up on Arch? Any distro can be "deployable" if you make it that way
>>107838810The difference is when you remove things from nix config they go away. Same can't always be said with shell scripts which install packages for example. Nix config defines a state, shell script tells how to get there.
>>107839901Or better yet shell script might just echo shit on random config files, which just stay there until you read the script and roll them back yourself and are easy to forget. How about just removing the line from nix config and be done with it?
>>107839266>They used to bleed you to cure diseases, we don't do that anymore because we have actual science now. This one didn't improve at all considering not long ago most of the population of our planet took the cancer juiceā¢.
For a regular user like me, it's nice knowing that if I need to reinstall my os or it breaks I can have the same exact config in minutes especially combined with home-manager, which allows me to define what settings and even plugins I want with my installed programs. For example I can declare all of my firefox settings/extensions and a firefox update will never be able to fuck with them. Also yes the system updates being atomic also makes sure it's basically impossible to break. So in short, once you get over the skill curve, you will have a setup that will just work with 99.9% reliability until the end of time (or if nixos itself dies).
>>107838810>what's the point of a Nix-style distro if i just waste my time replicating all its features i need manually in an assuredly nonrobust way?

>>107831098youtube re-encoded all their videos to save space around the same time that google cleared our old accounts and shit on gmail and other services (they own youtube and also cleaned out a lot of abandoned YT accounts). the bitrate on lower resolution videos now is LESS than it was when they were initially uploaded and served.
My god this board is retarded
>>107826433As per usual it's a gray area. I think it's objectively confirmed that pretty much all streaming content over the years gets degraded in quality, YouTube has multiple times been caught lowering the bitrate and absolutely botching older videos to save on space, and especially if you're a smaller channel your videos will look like garbage. On the other hand there's also the fact that if you aren't used to higher standards like a higher screen you don't and can't know you're missing out so things look good to you. I used a 1280x1024 screen until early 2010s and absolutely loved it, didn't realize how shit and blurry it was until I got a 1920x1080, thought that it was perfect, then in early 2020s I upgraded to 1440p and now I feel like 1080p is blurry but it also sort of makes older videos on yt even worse as many of them are 720p or 1080p only and not in 1440p or 4k. But games look so much better and so does watching movies in 4K by QxR etc.
This simple idea of having 2 USB-C ports CANNOT be done because it stops the zoomer from buying wireless ear buds(battery inside will always go to shit and unusable in ~3 years)and you would be stuck using extremely affordable, high quality audio headphones or in ear buds(that are a bit too green for the planet in 2026) also the 3.5mm headphone jack looks like a penis that goes inside a hole and basically why aren't you a wireless, constantly charging gay trans in 2026 right now.am i finally getting it /g?
