I've got a 1tb SSD full of png files in hundreds of folders, and I want to free up space by converting them all to jpgs. What software should I use to do this?
Is cable internet, as in DOCSIS, good for anything? They're discontinuing fibre in my area and DOCSIS modems look like absolute ass, basically no open source support.
>>107850008>discontinuing fibreProvider going bankrupt, or...?DOCSIS isn't bad but it's no fibre either.>DOCSIS modemsThe one I had from Virgin Media was very bad, and replacing it wasn't an option. See if your provider can give you just the media converter instead of a whole router.
Got a month old SSD (samsung 870 evo) that I think started causing hard crashes (monitor goes blacks/audio plays for a bit then loops/bzzzzts), repeatable & program specific, stopped after I moved the suspect files to another ssd.I don't know that much about SSDs, can anyone tell me if this is an RMA situation, I thought ECC is supposed to auto correct or cause remapping, is the drive is just defective?
>>107850159>>Provider going bankrupt, or...?They're going to just offer 4G/5G wireless now. There are other ISPs that offer DOCSIS and VDSL, but no fibre for some reason. I looked into it a bit more and running a DOCSIS modem in a bridge mode could be an option.>See if your provider can give you just the media converter instead of a whole router. If they have something like this they don't offer it publicly, only router/modem boxes that cost 200€+

What is the deal with programmers coping that they won't be replaced by AIs
>>107845213If ai can replace programmers, then it can replace all jobs. People should be much more worried than they seem to be about a world where the value of human labor is essentially zero.

This already happens nowadays. Kaspersky Lab was dumbfounded when analysing the Duqu Trojan (Stuxnet predecessor) : they found an "unknown language" which turned out to be Object Oriented C (OO C).https://www.theregister.com/2012/03/19/duqu_trojan_mystery/
>>107850259definitely just a shitpost, but okay, shizo.
Vertical video is the norm now. All video is vertical now. People actively wish horizontal videos were vertical. They yearn for vertical video even when they're not circumstantially limited to it. A kid asked me to hold his phone and film him doing a trick at a skate park last week and when I held it in landscape mode he stopped me, took the phone, changed it to portrait and continued. Ten years ago vertical video was considered digital AIDS. It was to be avoided at all cost. Now it's the golden standard.
>>107849814It already exists and it's beautiful.

>>107848840In some ways vertical video is superior to "slit vision", wide screen really sucks. People are taller than wide. And a lot of video goes into recording people.
>>107850187we live in a world where we interact with things on the ground and not in the skywe dont need to capture the sky most of the time but rather what we are looking at and interacting with on ground levelfor that purpose horizontal is superior in almost every case

>>107831645You see in 1984 and others where the protagonist is literally a janitor who loves the evil gov and strong leaders because democracy has weak leaders.
>>107831857It's sad - when you explain that this is exactly the playbook of every distopian government - they say you're overreacting. When you explain that supporting this is exactly like supporting Hitler in 1930s - they supported this. Ask them if they still agree - and they never talk to you again - but here we go. Schnell!

I'll have to see how you did that. The downloads run in a new thread.Emacs' threading seems to be quite buggy though, I've had it crash on me several times with warning messages about mutex this, mutex that.I will (eventually) have it use wget and only fall back on Emacs-native downloads when wget is unavailable.
>>107850174>Emacs' threading seems to be quite buggy though, I've been meaning to play around with Emacs threads more. I feel like they're severely underutilized. M-x list-threads is too empty most of the time.>I've had it crash on me several times with warning messages about mutex this, mutex that. How bad were the crashes? Was the crash isolated to just the thread, or was the crash bad enough that you had to restart emacs?
>>107848977About Xah Lee, I decided to finally watch some of his streams, and started with the old ones from around 6 years ago. They are not very interesting content wise but I was surprised by how reasonable, well spoken, and frankly kind of cute he was. Sharing random wiki articles he came across, talking passionately about niche subjects while showing his blog posts, and messing around in emacs. Very comfy. But since a couple years ago and especially now he seems very unpleasant in his streams, even though his life seems more comfortable? I wonder why his personality changed like that.
>>107850200>I feel like they're severely underutilized.Well, them being so buggy certainly doesn't help. Then again, maybe I'm just doing something wrong. I might ask about this on the emacs mailing list.>was the crash bad enough that you had to restart emacs?Yes, emacs' UI completely stopped responding, including to C-g. I don't remember which signal I used to kill it, I'll make note of it next time it happens.

>>107850182>whose appearance can easily be emulated by most DEsYWNBA7There is no linshit DE that replicates Windows 7.
