>NeXTSTep modded to resemble Mac OS is the same as GNU/Linux and it's myriad of desktops and graphical API's
You have no clue. fagOS or any modern Linux distro's relation to actual Unix is completely arbitrary. Developing graphical applications for either platform is nothing like developing for Unix proper. If you're doing anything object oriented, cool or not, it's not Unix. NeXT/OS X isn't Unix and neither is KDE/GNOME and their C++ and GObjects

>>107617063
>problem: no packages that don't require a dozen times a dozens of requirements
>solution: slackware
situation: no packages to begin with, anything you pull in for manual compiling requiring newer dependencies than whatever Volkerding had around a decade ago so you'll need as many dependencies in source as you lacked binarily from the repo.

Users of all levels are welcome to ask questions about GNU/Linux and share their experiences.

Yes, I am still forced to solve 3 puzzles on this browser while my phone would always get preferential treatment with only one. This shit is actually more time consuming if it doesn't like your device or user agent.

I've been getting into Guix and really like it so far. Problem is there's no "substitute"(binary package) for the linux kernel in the nonguix repo so I'll have to compile it every kernel update(takes around an hour or so)

What do I use Vim for exactly as a mobile office user and internet browser? I'm not coding anything on this laptop and I intend to go by the philosopy of purging any programs that I do not need or intend to use this time to minimize distractions.

I mean it works but I've had alot of problems including random disconnects and GTK4 apps graphics software gore after I enabled iGPU. I just wanted a simple setup that has internal and external graphics for passthrough on virtual machines.

These seem like good recommendations although if someone has an old and underpowered computer then I think LXQt is probably a better DE than Plasma. I tried Plasma on my shitty computer and it ran a bit slower than LXQt.

Lots of normalfags (and a few techies) would rather just swap the CPU, not take apart the entire system. It's not a new issue, we've seen it with the best Intel chips for a given socket many times.

Is there a safer embedded programming language than Rust?
57 replies and 7 images omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>107624479
That's a nasty bug and it's caused by being too compact/concise than what expresses user intent. The rust bugs are the same class -- you should require a bit more typing to introduce a new variable (Vs matching existing ones).
>>
>>107624542
Yeah, the syntax for introducing bindings is kind of a failure in general. There's also the ref specifier that you can use in unreasonable places and that has been soft-replaced by a special coercion rule since most people didn't understand how to use it.
This post talks a bit about the design process of variable declaration and how they favored elegant theory over pragmatism: https://brson.github.io/2021/05/02/rusts-most-unrecognized-contributor/
A simple principle like "to introduce bindings in a function body you must write let/var" would probably have been better.
(But in the end I still think it's a run-of-the-mill wart like you can find in every language.)
>>
>>107624925
>I still think it's a run-of-the-mill wart like you can find in every language.)
That's what most people think, and move on with life, yes. I, however, am angry at yet another downgrade/sidegrade where people chose to fix something that wasn't broken. I'm just angry that the cycle I've seen so many times in my life never changes. It's maddening.

I like the borrow checker. I don't like all the academic/functional bullshit in a systems language.
>>
>>107626030
That said, to answer the original question: there's probably not a safer embedded language than rust, but if that's my only option, I'm going to stick with my megacorp C# coding and be happy.
>>
>>107626030
Some of the academic/functional bullshit is actually nice is the problem. Sum types are great, traits have a few rough edges but are overall an improvement over standard OOP interfaces, and the borrow checker is based on academic dialects of C and ML. I don't know if there are language designers with an infallible enough sense of taste to take the good without the bad.

Compute power and build quality, my guess.

Plus the peripherals like small screen/keyboard means it's limited on general consumer uses.

But I'm looking to get one to run a monero node through i2p to male my own ban so that I can rest easy knowing my money is safe outside the watchful eyes of both the state and FIs who now have set the precedent to debank people for their political views.

I notice sometimes two separate lengthly downloads from different software will complete conveniently at the same time. I don't know how the magic happens, but is it really coincidence or does balancing take place in the network management so they are set to complete around the same time?

Best AA that has ever existed. You only uses it when you have HP to spare, or you are playing a movie game.

i can run it but that doesn't account for the loss of detail and extra strain when using particle effects

How the fuck are you meant to decide which CPU cooler is the best when every site and channel have different results? hwbusters say the LF, GN says the TRYX (fuck that, i'm not paying that much for a meme screen), the Corsair Nautilus is near the top in GN but low in others. Atmos in non-argb can't be found in Bongland for some reason.

Same with Mobos. Would be so much easier if the Aorus x3d was available in Bongland but they don't ship em over here.
