I am having a bit of a moment. I'm currently making a sidescroller with the help of ChatGPT. After doing so many motions, you sort of get the hang of it. So now, after so many weeks and months of thinking "oh, well, maybe if i did this, or how could we make this happen?" Basically rubber duckying the fucking thing I get to the answer an okay bit of the time.
But my question is is this bad? I feel like I am making progress and learning but I dont want the stigma that is "LMAO AI coded this game!!"
Is it my acheivement or an LLM's?

Reminder that UI designers spent the last 15 years sacrificing every established standard and convention on the altar of minimalism. They hate people being able to use computers easily and effectively and want to make users suffer as much as possible.
>>
>>107670561
Kek what's tragic is despite their attempts, Windows is is still maximalist, the only people making stuff as usable and truly minimal as possible are foss motherfuckers.
>>
>>107670561
mostly this.
ui designers want to keep their job, so they find excuses to change things that do not need changing, without taking risk, resulting in the shit ui's we have now.

combined with the vectorization of ui's, profit maxxin, 3rd world import and a myriad of other things, here we are.
>>
>>107670561
the UI designers have no visibility or say on the shitty jeetcode webshit implementation and companies almost never look for UI design people who know how to program or how the systems work. the terrible performance, lag, glitches are ux too, but the UI designers are completely isolated from those concerns by the hiring process.

i dont think you are able to define what you think "minimalism" is. win9x/xp had way less crap going on the screen and had rather rudimentary uis.

this new run dialog is basically another stab at having a maocs quicksilver-like launcher from like 2004
https://qsapp.com/about.php
or mac spotlight https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spotlight_(Apple)

a stock windows 95 or gaanoo loonix rice with just a tiling wm and dmenu is something vaguely "minimal" by today's standards..........

Here's the manual for your motherboard, consult here to find out what your system is compatible with. Some highlights:
-Your system has 3 slots for SDRAM (pre-DDR), and maxes out at 3GB (so, 3x 1GB sticks).
-You have an AGP 4x slot for video cards. Faster ones would fit in the slot, but be throttled by the bandwidth, so you'd be wasting your money. This looks very much look a office PC with no ventilation, so get one with a blower cooler if you want anything more than light gaming.
-Speaking of cooling, definitely put an exhaust fan on the rear of the case where the holes above the USB ports are. I'd also consider cutting into the case and mounting a another fan, if you're comfortable with that.
-Your mouse and keyboard will probably work with this system, unless its a newer device which doesn't have a Windows XP driver.
-You have 4 PCI slots, the 4th one shared with a CNR slot. Because your mouse & keyboard will take up the 2 USB ports on the back, I'd suggest getting a 4-port USB expansion card to slot into one of those PCI slots. The motherboard has an internal USB header, which you could use to connect a front-panel USB hub, even one which also has a headphone jack and / or SD card slots.
-You could also get an ethernet card because this apparently doesn't have one, but I'd very much suggest not taking a Windows XP machine online nowadays, so I'd suggest using USB for transferring files over instead of bothering with LAN.
-You'd have to get a specific cable, but that second socket on the back of the power supply is for you to plug in your monitor's power cable, so you wouldn't need to plug 2 power cables into your wall / surge protector.
-If you're going full-retro, you do have a connector for a floppy drive. But, unless you have floppy disks, it'd be pretty pointless. It was normal in the early 2000s to have 2 CD-drives at once, so consider that as well, but set your jumpers correctly.

From my point of view, many programmers hate Gen AI because they feel like they've lost a lot of power. With LLMs advancing, they go from kings of the company to normal employees. This is not unlike many industries where some technology or machine automates much of what they do and they resist.
For programmers, they lose the power to command a huge salary writing software and to "bully" non-technical people in the company around.

Traditional programmers are no longer some of the highest paid tech people around. It's AI engineers/researchers. Obviously many software devs can transition into AI devs but it involves learning, starting from the bottom, etc. For older entrenched programmers, it's not always easy to transition from something they're familiar with.

Losing the ability to "bully" business people inside tech companies is a hard pill to swallow for many software devs. I remember the CEO of my tech company having to bend the knees to keep the software team happy so they don't leave and because he doesn't have insights into how the software is written. Meanwhile, he had no problem overwhelming business folks in meetings. Software devs always talked to the CEO with confidence because they knew something he didn't, the code.

When a product manager can generate a highly detailed and working demo of what he wants in 5 minutes using gen AI, the traditional software developer loses a ton of power in tech companies.

/signed as someone who writes software

why is society blown up?

is he talking about the mass immigration + layoffs, unaffordable housing and increased crime?
>>
>>107670633
Yeah it's definitely nerdy Tom with Asperger's getting paid 200-300k for producing millions of dollars' worth of value that's bullying and exploiting business executives known for having dark triad personality traits. It's definitely not the other way around. Also since AI can produce so much code now that OBVIOUSLY means you need people who understand it LESS now. Especially given all the high quality code it's been trained on, like open source GitHub high school student projects.

Moronic post.

A few of you may have discovered today that thumbnails suddenly stopped loading in Firefox. I did.
Checking the browser console, I found errors for each thumbnail in the catalog which said "A resource is blocked by OpaqueResponseBlocking, please check browser console for details."
After disabling browser.opaqueResponseBlocking in about:config, those error messages turned into 403's and the images would still not load.
I did a desuarchive search for Firefox and found a post in /trash/ saying "I figured it out. 4chan is now asking for referrers when requesting images from 4cdn... TL:DR; 4chan wants to know where you were before loading an image." along with a screenshot of all about:config settings with the word "referer" in them.
With the help of that screenshot, I pinpointed the issue to network.http.referer.XOriginPolicy in about:config, which I had set to 2 for whatever reason, I don't know. Setting it to 0 fixed the problem.
Most of you on Firefox probably won't experience this since 0 is the default setting.
So, for those of you also experiencing this issue, there's the fix, and now the fix is on desuarchive for others to find.
Feel free to discuss the technological/privacy ramifications of this change by 4chan, or if the /trash/ poster's analysis is correct.
