Switching to Linux for gaming seems to be the popular thing these days and Steam is the choice for it. Whereas on Windows using GOG I can actually own my game and keep a copy of it, I'm not leasing it if the platform decides to just take shit back. Windows has better software support and freedom.
Wish game LLMs were a thing now so I could play whatever the fuck I feel like. Maybe save the seed to replay from that.

>>107670957>>107670757>>107665970Alright thanks. It's because I'm on the most popular meme distro of the week/month/year (you guessed it, cachyOS) and it installs both LTS and up to date kernels. I'm having trouble on 6.18 with my AMD GPU so I have to use LTS for the time being. I have a 9070xt and that's relatively "recent" hardware for old kernel versions so I was concerned with that mostly. >DowngradeThe cachy archive doesn't have 6.17 and I'm kinda retarded. Maybe I should try installing zen 6.17 instead because arch has an actual archive worth a damn? Couldn't be too much of a difference there
>>107671159>doesn't have 6.17They shouldn't, that's end-of-life already.>I have a 9070xt and that's relatively "recent" hardware for old kernel versions 6.12 isn't "old" by any standards. I call 6.12 new and 6.18 extremely new, but that's just me.>Maybe I should try installing zen 6.17Again, 6.17 is dead. idk why exactly but they do these middle versions for some reason and then they drop them.
>>107671215I'll just keep LTS since I can't tell a difference other than not getting crashes.

>>107667109Yes, but they are not rock climbers (those small ones where it actually is a real challenge). They have a binary power delivery, meaning you can choose from one of 3 speeds and then it's either on or off. If you want to have a toy to use for a tactile feel over rough terrain you'll want to pay more and get something better. But they will drive over smaller obstacles.>>107668137The only pics I have were from before I packaged them for christmas, not from when they played with them, but here you go:https://aliexpress.com/item/1005009330325173.htmlfor the puzzle. It has loose enough tolerances that it isn't frustrating for the child.https://aliexpress.com/item/1005009269604128.htmlfor the wooden stacking animals. It's definitely worth the money. They look pretty much 1:1 the way they do in the listing. For the second the plastic box is a bit fragile, but that's not important to me. They have lacquer on them, so if the child is young and likely to put everything in their mouth still, I'd be a bit hesitant with these, not because they smell bad or give me any reason to doubt them, but chinese lacquer and a newborn seem like a risky combination. For a raw (non lacquered other than the wheels) gift last christmas I gifted the youngest (not quite 1 at the time) this wooden dino, which was nice natural soft wood:Comment too long. >>107670633It's kinda mind-blowing how, for many years, and except for Microsoft and a handful of equally retarded retards, most companies were able to understand that having good programmers was better than hiring some shit durgasoft dev for 1/50th the price, because having a product that actually worked was in their best interest. And now, all those companies who resisted ruining their products are slowly deciding that they all are happy with an ai literally worse than those cheap programmers they didn't want. Like, <very cheap and bad> wasn't worth it, but <even cheaper and worse> is suddenly a great deal.I didn't expect society collapsing because there would be a point where every company would be speedrunning getting worse than windows 11, but here we are.

>>107670652any engineering student can do what he describes it's not enough to get a job by a long shot.I've designed and wired the control systems (electric + pneumatic + PLC) of industrial machinery, designed and built robots with custom kinematics, implemented a CPU on an FPGA in verilog, worked for years as a reseacher (PhD student) developing computer vision models and SLAM systems, even have some actual backend codemonkey job experience from way back when; I can do mechanical design, electrical design and simple PCB layouts, weld, solder, use most machine shop equipment, 3d print, but I'm not good enough to hear back from 99% of the places where I apply to junior or mid-senior roles in any field (CS, ME, EE)The minimum standard nowadays is that you have to have years of experience in the EXACT role you're applying to, having other experience and a broad skillset is completely meaningless. education only matters if it's from one of like 50 schools worldwide, and you still better spend years grinding leetcode to memorize every problem.
>>107661627>>107671131got an engineering degree? anything with "engineer" in the title will, without a doubt, require one. unfortunately, hands on skills like soldering are useless for getting engineering jobs, but PCB design & verilog experience should be more than enough to get your foot in the door somewhere. your background sounds like a mess though, what jobs have you held and for how long?you could definitely get a technician job but i know that you dont wanna hear that

>>107671301>>107671307>>107671205and in terms of background, I'm a mechanical engineer who first tried to switch to computer science after learning that programming is fun. did my master's thesis and now finishing up a PhD at a robotics lab, but before that I worked in industrial controls for a bit (mix of freelance design gigs and actual employment) as well as a short stint as a backend dev during my MSc. quit that place to do my thesis at the robotics lab, but that was evidently a very poor decision.it's a mess and that mess was caused entirely by the fact that I couldn't find a job right after undergrad, maybe due to COVID but most likely because I am a ugly incel undeserving of happiness.
