Tell me about your IT work nemesis
>>107872479Managers who basically enforce goals but don't contribute, or worse, actively hinder contributions, towards those goals getting achieved. Managers who basically just ask questions about if things are done, when they'll be done, or what the blocker is. But at the same time they don't care to steer technical direction, merely pretend to give a damn about how things get designed or built, focusing on the wrong details, and not having the judgment to say no or ask questions before approving decisions that will bite us in the ass later (tech debt, designs that won't scale in the long run, one-off projects to solve the hot topic of the day rather than being part of a long term strategy, often because they don't really have one). They'll hear about a dozen unrelated or semi-related problems or needs from various business leaders and just start relaying it to you in stream of consciousness fashion in a meeting and then go "so, what are we (you) going to do about it?" And then you're on the hook to do your best to cook something up and 6 months later come performance review time they'll say it wasn't what they had in mind even though they were fully aware of what was being built that whole time. These leeches are basically cheerleaders, or administrative assistants, but think they're a coach. They're there as a sort of pawn for the management hierarchy above you and don't take any ownership. Mine just left my team a few weeks ago to go be a leech in a different part of the company. Good riddance fucking worthless fuck

Picrel is retarded. I've since taken the hyperconverged homelab way: my desktop, workstation, media server, gitlab runner, home assistant, NAS, backup server, gaming rig, adguard dns server, etc... >>107888489This. Literally all you need is a desktop for a server. You can even use a laptop since whatever you're doing likely doesn't get that much traffic.
>>107888349Separate your desktop and server. Everything that you mentioned could run on a minipc or optiplex that costs less than $100.
Using 64 cores and 128GB of memory to run video games and services that would work on a minipc shitbox is hardly deserving of a thread. If you're not going to pretend your consumerism is a form of autodidactism, I don't see the point of a 'homelab' at all.

air coolers are manlywater coolers are for fags and troons

>>107886872No, it can't. You didn't understand the feature a described. It's not only "restore tabs"; any browser has this feature: It's restore tabs IMMEDIATELY. And the only way to truly be IMMEDIATE would be if the pages were hidden in the browser cache for some period of time before they were actually discarded – in case the user accidentally close that tab.If you are browsing a lightweight page, like a plain text page, it might not be that much of a problem/noticeable to restore the tab and just download it again, because it will reload pretty fast; it's plain text. Now, if you are on a tab with a video and you close it, and then you press Ctrl+Shift+T, it won't be immediate.

I use QubesOS with detached boot partition on 2 duplicated USB drives with any data that rests on the SSD/HDDs being encrypted with LUKS2. Whonix gateway is proxied through a VPN qube to hide Tor IPs (can't hide communication patterns) without bridges since bridge IPs can be farmed. Sometimes I2P outproxy through Tor through a VPN or similar setups with different anonymizing network overlays. Clients used for browsing are only opened in ephemeral disposable qubes whose one-time random 256-bit encyption keys reside on a tmpfs, with no unencrypted access to a permanent storage; or in entirely on-RAM disposable qubes to hide storage device wear statistics and other side channels. Attack surface is quite minimum since no extra things added like USB keyboard and no PV qubes (aside from sys-usb and sys-net) are used for launching HVM qubes with qemu stub domains unless very necessary and every other qube on the system gets shut down first to keep information leakage minimum. A veracrypt volume with hidden storage on a permanent qube for data storage and plausible deniability. Screws are painted with nail polish to ensure physical tamper evidence.what's your setup like?
