If you would like to try out GNU/Linux you can do one of the following:
0) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice in a Virtual Machine.
1) Install a GNU/Linux distribution of your choice on bare metal and run your previous OS in a Virtual Machine.
2) Use a live image and to boot directly into the GNU/Linux distribution without installing anything.

>power button is used to reset the system.
>ext4
All common filesystems tolerate this about equally like other Anon said.
>XFS isn't even in the picture if you want features
It has copy-on-write data and doesn't need a reformat to change the maximum number of files you can store. ext4 has neither of these.
>>

>>107702941

so which is it? does EXT4 handle file system better or not? Does it handle power button reset better or not?

>It has copy-on-write data and doesn't need a reformat to change the maximum number of files you can store.
BTRFS also has copy on write, and I don't see why I need maximum number of files stored as an issue, I will never run into that, surely?

I'm using moonlight from the flatpak, and it can't display anything.
I just get black screen, but the input is being captured fine.
How to troubleshoot it?
Because I tried using the android version and it work just fine.

are there any good attention grabbing laptops that aren't gaming ones? (as in not like the pic)

I hate how drab and boring a lot of modern laptops are. It's like they're designed for people who are anti-social.

It is quite simple, it all depends on whether you want to gayme, if not then go for Apple macbook pro, Dell pro or ThinkPad laptops other wise I would suggest get a Razer blade or Lenovo Legion.

I think you guys are just mentally retarded? Every singular OS in existance simply just works if you use it for it's intended purposes and can spend 30min configuring it.
All your shitposting about 'X OS is better than Y OS' just shows that the average IQ of a /g/ user is legitimately lower than Indians & Mexicans.
This board knows less than your average Redditor, even, 0 useful anything posten on here, just AI garbage and circlejerking about 2 topics daily.

Exactly, I always thought this is a place for deeper OS talk. I can use every OS without being a Tinker Troon. But I'm tired of fags shitting on Linux or dumbfags asking the most basic shit. I just realized that computers aren't for everyone and most of these "people" should get an iPad and a Console.
>I can't run X on Y = Trash
Cool bro, just kys. I can't run Autodesk 3ds Max on a Macbook or fucking Notepad++, but a Macbook has other advantages. And yes adobe and ms office isn't on Linux, but I still prefer it over the other options.

That's the kicker, right there.

I'd argue it's possibly lower than 'houseplant'.

Alright well since firefox is doubling down on implementing ai in their browser and theyre completely ignoring their user base professing how they dont want it. Which is the better fork of firefox to flee to? Im considering waterfox or librewolf since both are likely not to implement the new aislop bloat. Recently heard about this floorp browser too but its new to me and idk anything about it. Plus the name sounds gay as fuck which is the only reason im suspicious of it, the name alone already sounds like its begging to be abandoned but thats just my surface level take

Firefox + about:config tweaks
If you do anything else you are literally retarded.
>>
The main problem is that Gecko removed the ability to be independent from Firefox. All Firefox browsers are just body mods of the Firefox chassis, which gets out of date and gets cves and not enough engine features to pass anti-bot and user agent checks.

Until all the forks unite and make a common stand alone gecko you're just Firefox in drag.

size_t page = vmem_get_page_size();
printf("Page size: %zu\n", page);
void *ptr = vmem_reserve(1024 * 1024);
if (!ptr) return 1;
if (!vmem_commit(ptr, page))
return 1;
int *x = (int *)ptr;
*x = 544;
printf("%d\n", *x);
if (!vmem_decommit(ptr, page))
return 1;
if (!vmem_release(ptr, page))

powershell is trash, complete and utter pathetic excuse for a shell
and this thing was developed to replace the utter useless cmd.exe
it just proves that windows is in fact the least productive, least usable operating system out of everything available
even macos has a fully functioning shell

Whenever i try to use powershell for anything nothing ever works, even on windows. Sometimes I message curl commands to my coworkers and they say they don't work and it's because apparently curl is an alias for Invoke-WebRequest and is not compatible with curl. Not even chatgpt knows how to use powershell. Everything it shits out is broken.

if AI chatbot coders are so good (i've seen them do impressive stuff), why are there zero software companies releasing new impressive programs with small teams? where's the bottleneck that makes this impossible?

>>
>>107702964

Yes, you can accomplish those same features by other means, but I use them with lf because it's more comfortable to use for (me) and I've been doing it that way for years. If (you) prefer using a different method then good for you, having different options is cool. Again, I just prefer lf because for me it feels quicker to use, and you get more visual feedback compared to cd'ing your way into a certain directory.
>>107699319
lf is kind of like the spiritual successor to ranger, which was popular many years ago, it's almost a 1:1 recreation of the latter, so if you used it before you might like lf as well. yazi and other similar ones are just their own spin on the terminal file manager idea, buy I think all of them can to basically the same things.

I forgot to mention, at least for lf it's more of an aid or helper rather than a replacement for the CLI, sometimes one is quicker to use than the other, I still use the usual commands depending on the task at hand.
>>
>>107702465
I'ts not merely that I can accomplish these things. It's that you can automate file management tasks with fzf as you encounter them, and it's the filename completion for your shell.

How do you access ext3 or ext4 partitions from windows 10?

i used Ext2fsd which is a small program that can be ran as a service and automounts your filesystem in read only mode to the drive letter of your choice.

i hadn't used windows in a while and after a reinstall it doesn't seem to work anymore.

It can see my partition, tries to mount it but when i click on the drive in windows explorer it says "you need to format the drive before you use it" then when i choose "no" it says "the volume does not contain a recognized filesystem.

windows can't into Ext partitions anymore? how is this even acceptable?

I'm unironically hording old movies, TV shows and Anime, because one day the entire "on demand watching as a service while you own nothing" is going to collapse. And I don't want all of it to become lost media. Therefore I'm not really "mindlessly hoarding", it's more like "curating", at all times ready to start sharing what is lost.

I could afford all of that, but "being able to afford it" is not reason enough to do it.
I could easily afford to replace all electrical devices in my life with Apple products, still won't do it.
I could easily afford a Mercedes Benz, still won't do it.
Your argument is as low rank as your IQ.
