There's no point in wasting bandwidth for very slightly degraded frog nigger images. I'm not talking about the thousands of the nigger frog getting sodomized or sodomizing himself, I'm talking about visually identical copies of the same frog nigger reaction.

Hello everyone, I have an old desktop PC sitting right there doing nothing. I'm trying to give it a reason to exist and evaluating the idea to install Windows 7 on it.
So, can you use Windows 7 in these days? How much do you have to debloat it and uninstall things? And, more important, there's a way to not have it becoming a SECURITY NIGHTMARE?

Nta, but I hate UNIX and by extension Linux. I just don't like the way it operates on a fundamental level. I don't mind things be manual, I mind that Linux is fundamentally a server OS. Even MS DOS is a better home OS than Linux.

Make sure you test your body armor before they send you to the trenches, comrade. If you’re on the g board trying to pad your botnet with old XP systems, I’d guess you’ll probably be there soon. Hey at least when you die they’ll give your parents a sack of potatoes though! What a deal!

>>107655164
I still have a big hdd with all my music.. I rip it all and keep it on hdd (and a copy on sd card on my tablet + a copy on my phone) 250GB FLAC
I don't play vinyl much, it feels great to play it but I don't want to wear the records, they hold value when pristine.
So I mostly play it from PC, sometimes my tablet on the rare occasions that pc is turned of. Or on my phone.

We have to go back. You might not like it, but this was peak performance.
>Windows was fast and snappy, before the bloat and spying came in Windows 10 and 11
>Metro tiles allowed for a quick fullscreen app selection which is much faster and more customizable and convenient than a small start menu
>bottom left mouse brings up fullscreen start menu
>same with windows button
>bottom right mouse brings up desktop

It was so clean, fast and elegant. I miss it. No Microsoft One drive constantly trying to steal and save your data in a data center, no integrated AI, it was a pure new Windows experience, and we need to go back.

Oh stop. Windows 8 was aesthetically challenged ass. 8.1 might have performed better but it was ass too. We need Microsoft to make Windows 12 like they made 7, but they won’t. They’re emptying their cache all over AI and forgot what a flop Cortana was. We need fewer autistic people in tech.

Not really, what's the story in question?

Idk, it seems interesting, but I absolutely don't want to learn physics because I was bad at it when I was in middle school. I started thinking about it because I wonder if creating a modern lisp machine is actually possible.

All you need is NAND to Tetris and Digital Design and Computer Architecture (RISC-V Edition) by Sarah Harris and David Harris..
NAND to Tetris teach you digital design not VHDL or System Verilog they use a custom HDL language.

Learning the basics of behavioral programming isnt bad, boolean logic is obviously really simple to understand. Learning how CPU's work is involved but not something beyond the average /g/eriatric, its really just a lot of moving parts and smaller example microprocessors do a good job and keeping it simple. Combining the two into an actual project is where the real problem is, keeping track of everything and dealing with weird timing issues and attempting to debug is where the most headaches are, at least in my experience. Also genuinely good luck finding a good environment to do this in, I don't know whats out there but if there is one someone should post one. When I was in school we had to use Intel Quartus which was a massive piece of shit and also licensed. Hopefully something for the average joe thats a bit more streamlined exists.

My bad, XFCE too. I actually was running out of space in the comment and it slipped my mind. I used to use Xubuntu on my laptop I used in college like 10 years ago lol. I'm an old fuck.
>>107655495
Fair points. Just brain dumped this shit from my own perspective and experience with various distros and I admittedly have only had direct experience with Mint, Ubuntu, and Fedora. The others I've read about and haven't decided to try.

Regarding DEs I figured it was worth mentioning Cinnamon especially since the other anon asked about Mint and Cosmic since it's getting more attention lately.

As the other anon I'm replying to here mentioned, XFCE should be in the mix

Merry Christmas everyone
>>
>>107655600
Agreed I was going to mention this too but again ran out of comment space.

You certainly can install whichever DE you want on top for any distro. It's a bit easier and less likely to result in weird behavior to install and keep the one that is default though, no?

Also, here's what the ~/.config/cpu-graph.conf file should look like:
# Path to the graph image file
IMAGE_PATH='/dev/shm/cpu-graph.png'

# Width of the graph in pixels
IM_WIDTH=40

# Height of the graph in pixels
IM_HEIGHT=40

# Update interval in milliseconds

Yeah, it's so extensively tested by the thousands of engineers at Google and Micro$oft that there's no memory related CVEs in sepples projects. Ever. They change every single function with surgical precision and the tiniest of errors are revealed by their tests.
It's easy to test. SQLite has 155k lines of working code. Testing it reliably requires 92053k lines of code. You only have to maintain 591 extra programs to get reliable software. The linux kernel has millions of lines of code to maintain, what's some more millions?
I'm gonna go call the clangd, valgrind, ubsan and asan devs a bunch of faggots and tell them that their efforts are useless and they should go do something else.

My project >>107627343 uses c# on the backend. The docker version is AOT compiled too.

I've built a few other CLI tools using C# AOT, like an AWS S3 syncer and a VIM plugin.
>>
>>107655711
VIM plugin written in C#. It's like fzf but a nicer UI imo. https://github.com/kjpgit/vilark I use it every freaking day to switch files with and it makes me happy. It's fun to make a console UX.

At this point, I wont even use any desktop environment on linux if it isn't X11. Even XFCE is dead to me because it has wayland support. I will never support anything wayland based on linux.
I'm X11 pilled.

This isn't a "like vs dislike" scenario. There is no subjectivity here. HDR and VRR are objectively improvements and any attempts to dismiss them (like >>107649945 >>107653735

I don't know man, I just set subpixel rendering to RGB
But since I know some distros do weird defaults maybe try to add some fontconfig presets like this
ln -s /usr/share/fontconfig/conf.avail/10-sub-pixel-rgb.conf /etc/fonts/conf.d/

Or maybe you need to patch freetype if it gets too bad. There's even patches for some OLED displays now since they have this triangular subpixel layout
