I’ve been running Linux Mint for over four years and was happy with it until the recent drama, especially the AI security scan fiasco. It really shook my trust in the maintainers.

I started looking for alternatives, but after testing hundreds of distros, none of them met my expectations for stability and reliability. I began to accept that my system would just break from time to time until I found a thread recommending Windows Seven as a rock-solid alternative.

After researching, it turns out this version is still surprisingly usable. It’s stable, reliable, and with extended updates plus a good firewall, security isn’t a major issue.

Has anyone else tried this? How did it go for you? Personally, I haven’t run into a single problem so far.

Europe, including EU, is mostly stagnating or having slow growth in comparison to Asia and Americas that are doing better in comparison. That doesn't mean that EU/Europe is currently a worse place to live in or currently worse than those places, EU's GDP is still larger than China's and will be for a couple of years, and second only to US, and won't fall from the third place for 50+ years if ever. Most of anti-EU posts are from either russians butthurt that EU is so pro-ukraine understandably, or from schizos who think EU is the one responsible for mass migration in Europe, when in reality UK left the EU and has recieved many more migrants, and if we go by skin color UK has way more darker skinned and black migrants than for example Germany that's the heart of EU. Russia is also just barely 80% white/slavic, and accepts like 1M migrants each year and has the third largest migrant population on the planet. EU is overall a benefit and good for Europe, and while they sometimes fuck up like with the encryption thing, they also make good changes too like with EEA privacy protection laws straight up making Windows much better for EU citizens. Also it's the funniest thing ever to see white nationalists in US try to make fun of Europe, when the reason for their wealth is exclusively only because they accept immigrants and their white population is 40yo average and dropping by 1% every 3 years, and is already sub 50% in young adult territory.

It's kinda mind-blowing how, for many years, and except for Microsoft and a handful of equally retarded retards, most companies were able to understand that having good programmers was better than hiring some shit durgasoft dev for 1/50th the price, because having a product that actually worked was in their best interest.
And now, all those companies who resisted ruining their products are slowly deciding that they all are happy with an ai literally worse than those cheap programmers they didn't want. Like, <very cheap and bad> wasn't worth it, but <even cheaper and worse> is suddenly a great deal.
I didn't expect society collapsing because there would be a point where every company would be speedrunning getting worse than windows 11, but here we are.

Switching to Linux for gaming seems to be the popular thing these days and Steam is the choice for it. Whereas on Windows using GOG I can actually own my game and keep a copy of it, I'm not leasing it if the platform decides to just take shit back. Windows has better software support and freedom.

>stop playing online shit
I have never bought a game with a remote killswitch, yet more and more games adopt this release model. Looking the other way doesn't really address the problem.

I feel like being able to keep what you buy does, in fact, have at least something to do with the concept of ownership. But maybe that's just me.

this is so funny, I literally game on GNU/Linux and GOG seems like the only go to, as I don't want to have some garbage online only client to play my games, I just torrent gog version, launch setup and it just works
>Windows has better software support and freedom
GOG also offers Linux versions if they are available for certain games and with wine you need not worry about software support as every time you need to install some C++ or C# library, it will and it will be no problem. For absolute numbskulls there is shit like bottles, lutris and heroic game launcher, so you don't have to learn all the wine's commands and parameters
>>
>>107668510
On Windows you don't even own your computer, let alone anything on it.

I was thinking about this for some time, renewable is a joke, nuclear is too expensive, hydro isn't available everywhere and cause problems with downstream countries
Oil and Gas as energy sources are
>Scalable
>Cheap and abundant
>The price of a power station is dirt cheap
>Less variables that can reduce the output
>Tech can be improved to reduce pollution
Other alternatives are just failing to meet one or most of these criteria
The US current attempt to change Venezuela gov is a public declaration that alternatives have mostly failed and at best just reduced the need for gas and oil by small margins

and in terms of background, I'm a mechanical engineer who first tried to switch to computer science after learning that programming is fun. did my master's thesis and now finishing up a PhD at a robotics lab, but before that I worked in industrial controls for a bit (mix of freelance design gigs and actual employment) as well as a short stint as a backend dev during my MSc. quit that place to do my thesis at the robotics lab, but that was evidently a very poor decision.

it's a mess and that mess was caused entirely by the fact that I couldn't find a job right after undergrad, maybe due to COVID but most likely because I am a ugly incel undeserving of happiness.

my mistake, i've been drinking so i accidentally assumed that you were both the same anon
you're right in that your background is a shitshow and it's definitely holding you back, though you should still have enough experience to get you in somewhere if you do enough resume spinning and AI tailoring for each job you apply to.
from a quick, lazy glance at hiring.cafe, it sounds like you'd be able to snag a junior robotics engineer job somewhere, since the split software/mechanical background + computer vision experience matches what they're typically looking for. however, this is out of my field of expertise so i may be wrong
if you're super desperate, take the FE exam, get your EIT, and work as a slave at an MEP firm till you get your PE. it'll suck but im sure you can manage it
>>
>>107671422
I'm not american
>what they're typically looking for [in junior robotics engineers]
are new grads from top unis (and jeets) not old retards like me. And ideally they want people with experience in the EXACT specific niche they are looking to fill.

I've already given up on finding a technical job by now. Just coming here to rant. Just need to do my last few months, get the participation trophy and go on unemployment while I pick up an electrician cert. Or maybe honestly just anhero at this point, not like there's anything left to look forward to in life.

It's just immensely frustrating that there are so many things I can do and many of them very well, but in the end none of it was enough to even get a basic bitch corporate slave job.

Stock price is not revenue. Insisting that it is is like insisting that a landlord that owns a 1m house is making 1m a year renting it out.

Anyone one running sunshine/moonlight server?
I have this weird problem.
I have sunshine server running on my main machine (installed from the github repo) and it's on wayland.
I have moonlight client installed from flatpak on another machine and it's running on X11.
I can connect to the server, but I just get black screen, I tried using different client so I use moonlight on my android phone and it could connect just fine.
So what's the problem? I can't see any error messages in the logs to even start solving it.
The problem started after the latest kernel and mesa update.
Could it be hardware related?

Yes, but they are not rock climbers (those small ones where it actually is a real challenge). They have a binary power delivery, meaning you can choose from one of 3 speeds and then it's either on or off. If you want to have a toy to use for a tactile feel over rough terrain you'll want to pay more and get something better. But they will drive over smaller obstacles.

The only pics I have were from before I packaged them for christmas, not from when they played with them, but here you go:

for the puzzle. It has loose enough tolerances that it isn't frustrating for the child.

https://aliexpress.com/item/1005009269604128.html
for the wooden stacking animals. It's definitely worth the money.

They look pretty much 1:1 the way they do in the listing. For the second the plastic box is a bit fragile, but that's not important to me.
They have lacquer on them, so if the child is young and likely to put everything in their mouth still, I'd be a bit hesitant with these, not because they smell bad or give me any reason to doubt them, but chinese lacquer and a newborn seem like a risky combination.

For a raw (non lacquered other than the wheels) gift last christmas I gifted the youngest (not quite 1 at the time) this wooden dino, which was nice natural soft wood:

I think I may have figured out how to fraudently pass off AVIF images as video inside a WEBM container.

ffmpeg -i 1.avif -c:v copy 1.webm & ffmpeg -i 2.avif -c:v copy 2.webm
ffmpeg -i 3.avif -c:v copy 3.webm & ffmpeg -i 4.avif -c:v copy 4.webm & ffmpeg -i 5.avif -c:v copy 5.webm
(echo file '1.webm' & echo file '2.webm' & echo file '3.webm' & echo file '4.webm' & echo file '5.webm') > filelist.txt
ffmpeg -f concat -safe 0 -i filelist.txt -c copy 12345.webm

5 pack of AVIF images (125 KB): https://files.catbox.moe/ei4qf6.zip
those 5 AVIF images converted to a fraudulent (but playable) WEBM (124 KB): https://files.catbox.moe/5r19yu.webm

There's 1 problem though, I have no idea how to reverse this process.

Your autism made an invalid video file. Try exporting PNG images named 1.png 2.png 3.png to an AV1 webm first. Something like

ffmpeg -framerate 1 %d.png -c:v libsvtav1 -crf 30 -g 1 -pix_fmt yuv420p autism.webm

And then

ffmpeg -i autism.webm -c copy %d.avif

Holy shit, that was the clue. You're a god damned genius. I figured out the other part, apparently image2 expects PNG/JPG, a proper image format but if you switch it on before the output it'll export AV1 video data anyway lol.
