Call me an old loser but this trend is destroying the market for me. Sure cherry was overpriced and deserved to lose, but kailh and gateron are losing revenue too. The market seems to punish the makers of actual good switches
what makes you think you can assemble a keyboard from a boutique manufacturer better than someone doing it hundreds of times everyday? Get an OEM keyboard and stop your delusions.

this is correct, right? So screen tearing isn't harmful in anyway to my monitor or any other part?

what is a super light docx reader? looking for something similar like Everything's is to a Windows search
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcO-MxPf_VgThis video has specially-formatted custom english subtitles which differ from the standard closed caption style on youtube. Is there any way I can download the video alongside these specially-formatted subs? I tried using yt-dlp with the following command `yt-dlp --write-sub --sub-lang en-US https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcO-MxPf_Vg` but it just provided standard subtitles and not the specially-formatted ones.
anyone have experience with an ebook reader that has good tts capabilities? I've been using librera, but a recent update has ruined the tts function by making it pause after every line break. And there are hundreds that are just ad riddled junk
Am I the only one here who considers shit like this insulting? Why would any serious company treat its customers like this?

>>107710054I appreciate that chinks are keeping the unique form factor portable market alive.
>>107717068My GPD win is honestly one of my best devices, insane how powerful and small it is.
>>107709926>gonna hook it up to an external monitorYou'd have probably been better off getting a mini PC in that case, unless the power draw on that thing is insanely low (many mini PC's only draw a few watts anyawy)
I'm glad UMPCs have gone through a revival but I really wish China would make stuff in the OQO or UMID form factors and sizes, I want truly ultra mobile x86 computers with specs from this decade
>>107709926I have this laptop. It's OK. CPU performance is enough for web browsing, but not a whole lot more. GPU is basically just good for hardware video decode. When I first got it, Linux support was questionable. It took a fair amount of work to get the touchscreen working, and sound didn't work. But these days everything just works at least with newer versions of Ubuntu. Only other weird thing is that the mouse buttons are mapped to the numpad, so you will need to remap them. Battery life seems pretty good.I had the bearings go out in the fan after a couple months. So I just unplugged the fan and added some more thermal pads to utilize the metal case as heatsink and the thing stays perfectly cool (and a lot quieter too). The biggest problem with this device and probably all mini laptops is that the screen is just too small to easily use most applications with reasonable scaling. I don't need a laptop all that often, so I can live with it. But don't expect to do extended work on the laptop's built in screen. And there is no multifunction USB C port, so don't expect to be able to use a docking station either.

>>107716703The circular part is in reference to the GDP circlejerk that has been taking place for decades now. The llm bubble is just making it more widely discussed since it's about as transparent as a window.
>>107715755>The only real use is in combat drones.Except who wants a combat drone the size and weight of a datacenter?
>>107715543>>107715783The worst thing is that if we get AGI, or some lite-AGI (capable of replacing significant portion of white collar workers, but not all) it would unironically make it even worse. Literal retards and liars say that AI succeeding will generate tons of GDP, wealth and taxable incomes, but the opposite is true. When you replace a worker you save the money on their salary as a company and if they can’t find similar job you also remove one potential customer, the saved money can be reinvested into higher productivity to save more money and maybe pass it down on the consumer. All of these actions decrease GDP and possible steps which you can tax. If you scale it up you will have decreased consumer spending, decreased income taxes, decreased revenues, overproduction (which will result in either waste or deflation) and so on, things that make the national debt even worse, and that is not even mentioning the hundreds of millions of unemployed people that are angry and were promised UBI by AI faggots, which would make government deficit skyrocket. At this point AI either fails and causes collapse of western civilisation or it succeeds and causes bigger collapse of western civilisation.
can someone explain that part to me?because if a piece of software is open-source under the GPL and everyone has access to it, couldn't they just compile the source code themselves and have a copy of the program?and while not everyone is willing to compile a program from source instead of just paying a small fee (i'd be guilty of that), surely someone would eventually start releasing binaries, right? or they might be able to make a loophole that doesn't distribute binaries but makes the compiling element easier and streamlined. what's even the point of making people pay at that point? or is it intended so that only idiots and people who want to donate will pay?
>>107717573Normies would pay for a product to not have to compile it. Would you prefer the developer's binaries over a literal who's, assuming you cant read code?

Should we all try to become managers? I'm at 150K as a senior dev, tolerably happy, but when I hear about people I know having titles with "manager" in them, I get to wondering if I ought to be at their level and I'm being complacent. But then I'm a weirdo, so perhaps making six figs as a code monkey is a solid all around package for my personality type.
>>107717827I've already been a "manager" in the military, if I didn't get my new job I would have been "operations 2 I/C" in my section and have three or four juniors to write performance reviews for. and i've lead a force protection team, and had juniors while sailing. I have a lot of insecurities about it but I think that shows I care and at least know enough about leading to know what I'm doing wrong. I could probably be a manager for a small department if i could navigate supply systems properly

>>107717676It means that neutrality/apathy in politics is nonsense, as even passively one contributes to a certain outcome or another; it goes back to the French 1968 songs (and the idea is much older). The French original is actually more *vulgar*, it translates as "even if you don't give a fuck, each of of you is concerned" or something similar, but that doesn't rhyme in English (or Italian).
>>107717797Reminds me something like (not a specific quote) "politics is something no sane person wants to care about or pay attention to yet is something they have to otherwise the few will fuck it up for everyone", and inaction is the same as letting the few fuck it up.>>107717588I believe I was too ambiguous with this meme, I intended some "Even patience has its limits" monk-with-a-gun vibe, as in taking a break from neutrality and taking up arms to "enforce neutrality" with violence, which is no longer inaction.
(I acknowledge the very idea of shooting non-neutral people is ridiculous, which is why it's a meme.)
