>>107680825Just google the model of external drive you want to shuck and see if someone's done it.
>>107680832>201316Gb must have been pretty damn spiffy.I would want something that uses ddr4, but you really don't need much horsepower for home server stuff. $100 seems like a lot for a computer that's over 12 years old imo. I think you can do better.
>>107680856thanks for the input, I'm new to /hsg/ and I've mostly just used laptops before so I have no idea about pricing. When I mean I want my own home server I'm thinking of an AWS EC2, I want something I can just turn on, ssh into it and start playing around, run different projects on it. I see the HP EliteDesk 800 with my specs going for $200+ on ebay, so what I have looks like a good deal, but again, I might be getting ripped off. Suggestions appreciated
Shucking drives has been dead for a while now. They started limiting the speeds of writes when it's not in the caddy.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y43wYwONHW4Writes are around 25% slower while read isn't impacted as much. So if you do a lot of write then it's probably not worth it, but if it's a WORM drive then it might still be worth it.
>>107680884I think people are just trying to take advantage of the state of the market right now. Are you seeing them sold for that amount, or just listed? I'm not supper versed in the prebuilt market, but that's just my gut feeling with something that old. Someone threw a $30 ssd in ewaste and is trying to make a quick buck.
I was thinking about this for some time, renewable is a joke, nuclear is too expensive, hydro isn't available everywhere and cause problems with downstream countries Oil and Gas as energy sources are>Scalable >Cheap and abundant >The price of a power station is dirt cheap>Less variables that can reduce the output >Tech can be improved to reduce pollution Other alternatives are just failing to meet one or most of these criteriaThe US current attempt to change Venezuela gov is a public declaration that alternatives have mostly failed and at best just reduced the need for gas and oil by small margins

Just recently got a mac mini for free from my job. m4 pro chip, 24gb ram, 512gb ssd. Booted it up, set everything up, aaaaand what the fuck:>don't have a 1500 dollar display directly from apple? don't have the 5k resolution equivalent from dell? wanna get a nice cheap 1440p or even 4k res monitor? no, sorry, not good enough, all your shit is blurry as fuck because we don't support those resolutions. >want to fix that problem? sure buddy download this software betterdisplay off github. good shit right? we fixed apples mess for you.. that'll be 20 dollars plus tip to use the whole app. also our "Fix" just makes everything scale slightly less blurry, but not actually truly outputting at the proper resolution. plus tip. also when you do this you can't have HDR enabled. You get either slightly less retarded looking text or shit scaling with hdr. your choice faggot>nice logitech/non mac mouse you got there. we're gonna purposefully fuck the scrolling up so when you scroll once it barely scrolls at all, and when you scroll a bunch all at once it torpedoes you to the bottom of the page. if you had a magic mouse from apple, there's a setting for that specifically, but if you plug anything else in you don't get to see or configure that.>don't worry there's third party apps for that too! download them.. but they all have 7 day trials and disable themselves unless you pay 20 dollars plus tip.>wanna upgrade that storage? you don't have the right. should've gotten what you wanted out of the gate, stupid. you literally can't even bring it into an apple store and pay an exorbitant fee to have a cheap ssd thrown in. we just literally don't even do it. go buy an external drive you shit head. fucking moron idiot.who's fucking allowing this stupid shit? do apple fanboys really fucking shell out this much cash just to make their shit usable? what the actual fuck is this shit?

i fell for the hackernews maymay a while back and bought 10 of those $2 weact 0.96" displays for prototyping a wearable HUD. theyre actually pretty sick, aside from using RGB565 and being super washed out, but that can be fixed in software. but the software is where im having issues. their official driver is a fork of https://github.com/mathoudebine/turing-smart-screen-python, and there are three issues; 1) its GPLv3, 2) it doesnt do what i want (hence my rewriting software for this thing), and 3) the software support seems VERY incomplete, as in it doesnt support almost any of the probably-available commands for whatever driver ic it uses.so does anyone have any esoteric knowledge on either what tft controller ic it uses or how to figure it out? the closest ive gotten is that it maybe uses something like a st7735 which adafruit has published c files for, but none of the command bytes match up with those in the weact or turing source code, and the ic package doesnt match so i doubt thats it. ive been able to find the actual oled display module datasheets, but theyre useless for me because this thing uses a usb interface and an ic between that and the oled.

aside from overpriced pads, snapping headbands, non replaceable padding on the headband, being french, whats the focal clear like? I know tyll loved it more than pretty much any other headphone i seen him review. They seem to be around $800 in canada which is exactly what i paid for my hd 800 and what things like the lcd 3 are priced at so theres quite some competition at least in the used market for me.I know they use to get recommended here a lot in the old op but maybe that anon isn't around anymore
Do you help your family members with their technology?
>>107664543help family for free. friends? first time or two.. sure. afterward, you need to be: "what's in it for me?". cash, drugs, combination of both is good. anything less than that tell them to tell their story walking. some "friends" can be complete leeches.
>>107680478Never OPEN their computer, either: every single hardware problem they have from that moment until Doomsday is now entirely your fault.
>>107680500Family will ALWAYS be bigger leeches than friends will ever be. You can tell friends to go fuck themselves all day. You tell family to go fuck themselves, they turn it into a war situation when they tell the rest of the family how "horrible" you were to them. Blood will ALWAYS fuck you over first.
>>107663877
>>107658590To a point that's fine, if it's family and they're conscious you're doing them a favor/helping them, rather than feeling entitled about it. I had to help my aunt and uncle all the time when they were nearby, and they were always gracious and grateful about it, so I was glad to do it. I only got irritated about when I had to fix something that went wrong because my tech-incompetent cousin told them to do it under my nose.Anything non-family that takes more than ten minutes to do, also takes cash for my time though, simple as.
