Any version of Windows since 1995 has been more polished, production-ready and user-friendly than any Linux distro ever made. That's obvious to anybody who has installed both of them on the same machine. Are Linux users just lying about their distros being a better experience than a Windows installation?
>>107621970Windows definitely used to be better experience until W10. Then they made things worse and more complicated just so they can spy on people better. Modern Linux is definitely a better experience than modern Windows.
>>107621970I dont know why Linux gets all this hate honestly. I used Windows for nearly all my life, I switched to Linux 3 years ago and I never remotely felt the need to go back. I dont know.Maybe I'm a special case, maybe everyone else is dumb, I fucking dont know. I just know that my computer simply works better under Linux for everything I do. I just dont understand why all this hate, I dont get it.
>>107621970>from 1995I would say that this is slightly too early, but everything from XP onwards is pretty much unkillable, since hardware back in the XP era became good enough that it can still browse the internet and do all sorts of basic tasks just fine. With Windows versions before that, you would have a hard time even browsing the internet. Regardless, you are right, linux trannies lie this much. Old windows versions are a healthier alternative to both new, enshittified windows and troonified troonix.>>107625041Linux provides even worse overall experience. Why do I get this error every single time I open up the lid on my laptop and unlock the system? Why does locking the system take forever with a fade animation as opposed to being instantaneous? Hell even opening up the lid after a suspended session does that too.

Hell even opening up the lid after a suspended session does that too.If you're on X instead of Wayland then you should be able to change that in the settings. Press the Windows/Super key to bring up the start menu, then type "screensaver", then open it up. Click on the "advanced" tab and the fading options are in the bottom right of the window. If you're on Wayland then I don't know how to change fading settings - I haven't yet used LXQt with Wayland.
>>107643821You can but it's annoying because you need to tell the kernel exact details of the file data on disk because it can't use filesystem drivers when resuming.

What's the strategy when buying powered usb hubs, the safest way would probably be buying one of those that have 5V 2A usb c to a so you don't need to use changs power unit and burn down moms basement. But I say today that they have cables that are those 5,5mm barrel to usb a/c as well. Is that a good idea? Or will mom be sad when the house burns down?
what are the decent go to chinkshit pc fans? no rgb or bullshit needed, just reliability, and not that much noisyits time for christmas selftgifts and given the prices of ram, i need to keep alive this pc for a while

>>107640087nothing has really changed, the chinks figured out a way to bypass the fees by just shipping items in bulk instead of individual packages.prices have genuinely barely been impacted.>>107644029all computer fans are chinkshit already, it's a completely globalized product.your best bet is refurbished ones direct from brands on ebay or something.i have had good results from buying "damaged" water coolers and just taking the fans, they are usually completely unused and the radiators were just damaged in shipping. sometimes it's just completely cosmetic and you can get a full AIO water cooler for peanuts.
I want a "smart" thermostat, but seems like they all are rather dumb, having their "smarts" in the cloud. And fuck that shit.Does Chang offer a smart thermostat that works offline? I just wanna program some stuff like >heat up to 23° from 0600 to 0700>stay at 18° from 0700 to 1700>heat up to 24° from 1700 to 2200>cool down to 16° from 2200 to 0600and a>gimme full power nao!!!button.Wouldn't mind doing that shit with a d-pad on the thermostat or per app and bluetooth, if it's an open standard and I could use some FOSS app on my PC, should the phone app stop being supported.
You'll only read/watch/play 1% of that stuff in your entire life.

A device pinging everything on the network is different. Although honestly, a ping discovery scan isn't considered a very serious threat. It's not technically an attack.
>>107640248Anon you're like a month late. SSDs are now luxury items just like RAM
>>107640316This is an interesting question because on the surface of it the answer is yes: if you have two files of the same size, one image and one text, then the text will almost certainly compress a lot more than the image (the image might compress very little, in fact). But the reason for that is not because text is more compressible than graphics. The reason is that text is almost always stored uncompressed, while almost all image formats are actually inherently already compressed. If anything, raw image data is extremely compressible, or put equivalently - just storing the raw pixels one by one takes up an immense amount of space, which is why basically all image formats intended for common use compress it basically without exception. A raw image can easily be 10x-100x larger than even a lossless PNG file of the same image. And compressibility is a function of "information density", aka entropy (in the informational sense, not to be confused with the entropy in physics for example, which is conceptually related but used and defined differently). So good compression will bring the filesize down as close as possible to the actual amount of information necessary to express the data, and double-compressing it cannot bring it down any more than that. After that, the only differences that might happen would be due to differences in the quality of algorithms, as it's near impossible to achieve truly theoretically perfect compression. The same is true for most other media files by the way, like movies and music. They're all inherently stored compressed, and decompressed on the fly by the player/viewer/decoder, so trying to compress them again externally usually doesn't do much at all. Text is probably the most common kind of data that's usually stored entirely uncompressed and therefore is very compressible by the end user compared to most other common formats.
>>107641957Just because other shit is more expensive doesn't mean it's not overpriced. Would you buy a beer for the price of 128GB of DDR5? Would you buy a gun for the price of a truck, or a truck for the price of a house, or a house (an average family home) for the price of a superyacht? There's always something more expensive to buy.
>>107642371If there's a machine in the network that can be used as a proxy, then they should be able to use it as a proxy. This could mean a VPN node you connect to, it could mean a bog standard HTTP proxy someone connects to, it could mean ssh tunneling into that machine, it could even mean using remote desktop to access a machine in the office and open the browser and make the request from there. But if there's absolutely nothing set up for it in the office, and nobody can physically go to the office to set it up, then you probably can't.Although after writing this and then re-reading your post I'm now confused, what is your company's network? I assumed that meant the office internet but then you say the office is closed. Is it actually a company VPN for example? If it's a virtual network like that then I don't see what going into the office has to do with it.
