ps. i know what they're mad about, and the difference between something made with ai vs. say photoshop, and that is that now people with no skill in drawing can make something that looks good, that's what really boils their piss. i know they think these pictures as good as well, because if they didn't, they wouldn't feel threatened by them. never heard them complain back when ai pics looked like acid trips

it's possible to like the technology/concepts and some uses without liking everything everyone is or ever has done with it
like i enjoy playing with freely available models on my own computer, but i think they're taking things way too far with the datacentres
>>
>>107661413
This. I like guns and think guns are cool but I don't like senseless murder, by gun or otherwise. But as much as I want to like AI because I've been influenced by sci-fi stories that had an AI as a magic tool that literally just makes everything easier so you can focus on doing what you want, almost all current use cases are contrary to that. Basically the whole
>I want AI to do my laundry and chores for me so I can focus on drawing.
But with how it's being shoved down everyone's throats and its rampant use in entertainment, it's become the opposite. Not to mention companies wanting to cut costs as they do and the presence of AI possibly fucking up the job market for any job that uses a computer, leaving only either trades, manual labor, dangerous manual labor, or mcdonalds line cook as your possible job options. I am aware I am catastrophizing but I have yet to find a single news that gives me hope that AI/AGI will actually lead us to a utopia and not a global dystopian shithole.
>>
>>107660366
Probably these people were once paid artist with only human competition and now the machines wipe them out + putting up with AI shit everywhere instead of real memes made in GIMP like I do. I still disagree with them AI should be banned but they have a point that it may violate their rights by AI copying their work without permission. I'm all for them poisoning it using that technology.

Wanna know one real critique of Mastodon. It shows the tribal psychology of leftist and DemSoc people. Every time I go there they are constantly giving moral lectures about the harms of ICE, corporate greed, enviormental pollution and police brutality. Its not bad that they post this stuff I agree with a good portion of it. But its so weird how they repreach their values over and over again ad nasseum. Its a badge of loyalty game where everyday on Mastodon is ground hog day to be morally lectured. I picture a college student shouting on a microphone: WE ARE ON TEAM ENVIORMENT, TEAM TRANS, TEAM SOCIAL PROGRESS! and we will let you know this every day till the end of time!!!

Linux Mint's user base is all boomers who want an old version of Windows and would be better off actually using an old version of Windows but they bought into "muh security" or another vague belief about why Linux is better even though they have no interest in actually learning the Linux way of doing things and just want everything to work as it did in Windows XP. At least with Ubuntu you learn the Linux way of doing things and the OS is grounded in the Linux philosophy even though it holds your hands through a lot of things. Half of Mint's user base, on the other hands, would be terrified of doing as little as the most basic of stuff in the terminal. Mint has no purpose of existence rather than cater to people who would probably be better off using Windows XP because that's what they actually want.

My Laptop‘s bios doesn’t let me disable VMD, so I can’t change to Linux, is there any way around this?

I think the only way is to get hdd. Ssd automatically gets VMD.
>>
>>107660899
get sata to m2 adapter and install ngff ssd?
>>
>>107660776
would this help?

"If your laptop's BIOS won't let you disable VMD, it often means you need to enter "Advanced Mode" (F7) or use a hidden key combo like Right Ctrl + Right Shift + Alt + F2, then find the setting under System Agent > VMD Setup, or your manufacturer (HP, Acer) might hide it, requiring you to load Intel RST drivers during Windows installation or update your BIOS for new options"

Remove the SSD and then disable it.
Reinstall SSD

>Nvidia plans to start its cuts by targeting its RTX 5060 Ti 16GB and RTX 5070 Ti. Targeting the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB makes sense, as this GPU has the same amount of memory as an RTX 5080, a much more expensive GPU. The same is true for the RTX 5070 Ti. It’s memory could also be used for more profitable RTX 5080 GPUs.

Guess I better get a 5070ti while I still can. My EVGA 2080 super's fan control is fucked after updating my drivers (only one fan spins), can't even open Precision X1 anymore.
I was really trying to save up for other shit. But I can't fucking play games with only 1 fan running, and I can't play any newer games without driver updates.

If i buy a new computer (current one has possible SSD issues, graphics card power issues and overheating) with a 5070 and windows 11.
Can i just uninstall that and immediately install windows 10? I heard in some previous thread that win 11 could be better for gpu optimization or whatever.

Can I take my current raid 5 storage pool in truenas and change it to raid 0 while keeping the data intact?

I need more space but really don't wanna have to start fresh and copy everything back.
15 replies and 4 images omitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>107659276
Its not impossible someone wrote a program to do it, but they are fundamentally different storage systems. You should start looking at ways to copy the data off to external HDDs or something so you can destroy the raid and create a raid 10 with a hot spare.
>>
>>107658213
anon my disks all have stickers with their serial numbers on them.
also, if it's the wrong disk you just put the right one back, it's not like the array magically breaks the moment you remove a necessary disk
>>
>>107660928
I was afraid of that. Thanks for the info.
>>
>>107654550
>a mathematical certainty that another disk will have an URE during rebuild and nuke your data
This is one of the most stupid myths going around in the "storage" community. Do you really think you can't read all the data off a drive without it failing? Like is this what you actually believe, that you cannot read all the data stored on a perfectly functioning HDD? Have you ever tried to do exactly that? Have you ever tried to issue a SMART long self-test, which basically has the drive verify that it can read across its entire capacity?

I've had arrays doing monthly full scans for nearing a decade and the stupid things never fail to read unless the drives are actually bad and dying (if you see this happen, it's time to replace the drive because some more serious failure mode is likely near).

>>107654812
So you just pull out a disk at random, while your computer is turned on and your array is mounted, no less?

Why are companies so bloated
>>
>>107659515
Literally every engineering exec is joining Nvidia. This is basically an acquisition where Nvidia gets everything it wants then leaves the parts that it doesn't want, and it's cheaper because regular employees don't get the full acquisition windfall. Same shit Meta pulled when they "invested but didn't acquire" Scale AI, and Scale AI's execs all moved to Meta.
>>
What's wrong with that? Nvidia has to protect their bottom line you know!
They're not a charity!!!

If you want cheap inference, access an API endpoint. What's the matter? You're not doing anything illegal, right? You're not a terrorist right? Why are you so against safety!!!!!
>>
Wonder what happens to the engineers
Figure Nvidia actually wants them, or is it just grabbing execs and controlling competition?

I have been mastering video for normalfag consumption for 25 years now and I'll tell you straight out HDR is fucking garbage. It literally does nothing but attempt to make blacks look good you your shitting overpriced garbage LCD monitor and it fails to do a decent job at that. Since nothing will ever compare to the color reproduction and real blacks that were possible on CRT.

But feel free to continue buying the next gimmick so I can re-master the same garbage content I've already mastered 4 of 5 times by now because you idiots keep re-buying it.

I use Xenocara and a private fork of X11 by the way. I have a 6 monitor set-up at my FreeBSD workstation. Yes it supports HDR and mixed refresh rates and all the other shit you idiots keep parroting isn't possible in X11. We tried to push our modifications upstream years ago and FreeDesktop refuses to accept them. Thankfully, the OpenBSD guys and the Xlibre guy aren't massive fags and are happy to take our code.

All my laptops run OpenBSD by the way and they're far more secure than any garbage Linux distro you're using with systemd backdoor bundled in.

Thanks for keeping my employed. I bet you bought a 3D TV 10 years ago too lmao.
