My guess is Sonoma is some kind of very impressive smaller model series specifically trained on narrative text. It writes pretty well, understands pacing better than other models, doesn't try to dump everything in context into reply, it can be clever in its direction... But makes really dumb or incoherent mistakes the way an 8B would. I don't really give a fuck about trivia knowledge, but it does say something about model size and this one doesn't know some of the more obscure stuff the bigger models do. It doesn't feel at all like Gemini or Grok. If it has to be one of the two, I'd guess some kind of Grok Gaiden specifically for their RP offerings.
