>Technology platforms are to be compelled by law to proactively find and stop content promoting self-harm to adults as well as children, in a bid to boost online safety.

>The change to strengthen the Online Safety Act will make clear to social media companies that it is not optional as to whether to take quick action on protecting users from “toxic material”, the new Technology Secretary Liz Kendall said.

>She said such content is so harmful that it can be “the difference between life and death”.

>The change – legally requiring tech firms to prevent such content from appearing in the first place, rather than simply reacting to it – is expected to come into effect this autumn and will mean that encouraging or assisting serious self-harm will be treated as a priority offence.

>The Molly Rose Foundation – set up by bereaved father Ian Russell after his 14-year-old daughter Molly took her own life, having viewed harmful content on social media – welcomed the strengthening of the Act.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/ofcom-liz-kendall-samaritans-government-b2822293.html

The OSA is getting worse. So much worse. Now all Brits will be blocked from viewing "self-harm/suicide" content even if they are verified as 18+.

If they apply these laws liberally, then we could end up with a bizarre scenario where people in the UK can no longer listen to a song that romanticises suicide (so a significant portion of rock/alternative music), or watch a film/play a video game that features a suicide/self-harm scene.

I didn't know my missus when she was 19, so I can honestly offer no opinion on this.

There's a distinct shortage of photos of her in her teenage years, for some reason I've never bothered to ask her. She's got one when she was 9 - then the next one was when she was 24.

Based

you used to be able to host a simple html website through Glitch (an online html editor) no server storage or anything fancy like that but I got a kick out of making silly sites. turns out they're shutting down or something and all my websites are gone, do you guys know of any programs that allow you to display a basic html page in the browser and link other people to it? not needing any user interactive stuff like javascript capabilities, i just want to display the code.

this stuff probably costs money most of the time but if there are any cool sites like glitch that haven't gone under yet it would be really neat to use.

for you since you dont want to learn git
ceocities will be okay but its kind of gay in that it wants you to edit your html like a CMS (content management system)
rather than just feeding it your raw html,js,css files.
someone correct me if im wrong on this, but does it allow you to just drag and drop a folder so you can write in notepad locally or whatever?

netlify would be my recommendation for you OP, dont need to learn git, and can drag and drop a folder of your website/assets, etc

neocities has a social media angle too if youre into that

Don't try this at home Edition.

Decentralisation and professional communications.
The email cartel is gmail, ymail, outlook/live and icloud. The first step is getting out of their system.
Emails are a form of professional communications between parties, if the conversation needs confidentiality then it can switch to PGP or (even better) Signal.

I only use FreeTube on my laptop though, when I'm on my phone (iPhone) I just use whatever invidious client currently isn't fucked.
Non of Googles actions will stop me from enjoying a ad free experience. Maybe Google/Alphabet inc. should roll back a bit on the obsessive ad rape and make the default YT experience not insufferably unbearable instead or just stop offering 4K video when most people are just streaming from there phones and besides people seem content with the buffering piece of shit slop that is Netflex anyway too. I always turn 4K down to 420p anyway because my Internet is garbage out where I live and stuttering is more annoying than slightly pixelated video frames in my personal opinion.

The crazy part is that kiwi users are all completely fucked up people. They are the true dregs of society, and they seem to engage in this sort of activity out of pure sadism, perhaps to have someone--anyone--to feel as though they are even one half-rung above on the social ladder. They're self-aggrandizing on top of that. It's sickening to anyone with a conscience.

no, this is true about updates. it's not true about reinstalls.
reinstalling is exactly the same task every single time, because you are starting from scratch. wipe the drives, install windows. done. took me literally 7 minutes last time. add another 7 for installing applications.
>>
>>106525798
Downloading Windows takes longer than 7 minutes.
That's not to say that you didn't, I'm merely pointing out that not everyone has a superfast USB stick with Windows on it sitting right next to their computer, with the right version and localisation of said OS, and all their drivers and applications neatly organised into an INSTALL folder along with an unattended installation script, which among many other things makes MS Office install in 3 minutes.

On second thought... I call bullshit on that.
>>
>>106525961
>not everyone has
but everyone can has.
and then it does take 7 minutes.
i don't have an unattended script though, i pretty much just ctrl+a, enter all the installers lol

Maybe not really /g/ related.
You ever heard news of that some person was imprisoned for many years, then one day it turns out that they were wrongfully arrested, so they get released and get a HUGE money compensation, like millions of dollars.
Isn't that dangerous? Like you are publically announcing for all the relatives, acquaintances, neighbors of that person, that this one guy has life changing amount of money, and since he's recently out of prison, he has nothing to protect himself or the money with. Does he get a temporary bodyguard?

The Minibook X is an ok laptop, I have one. It's a little bit bigger than my EeePC 900 length-by-width but it's much thinner. Mixed-bag because thinner actually means I have to be more careful regarding breaking it when I throw it into a bag. Metal case, but it's aluminum or something and easy to beat up. Linux support is completely half-assed, don't expect to use it as a 2-in-1 tablet without hacking. Kernel compiles in 20 or 30 minutes on it.

I don't understand who this is supposed to be for. People who want an object-oriented cross-platform shell already have PowerShell, which does everything Nushell does, but better. People who care about UNIX philosophy would call object-oriented an anti-feature and have better native shells.
I guess it's a fad for rust developers to fit in with other rust developers, but that has no appeal for me.
>>
>>106525380
You can't build powershell from source. It's cmdlets are slow and there is a wide gap between Windows and Linux and the differences between 5.1 and 7.5.
You'll find weird problems like Out-File -Encoding UTF8 adding a bom or you'll somehow get a variable to be "optimized" and thus break your whole session or learn the exciting trivial differences between psobject pscustomobject or some other bullshit .NET type.
Probably the only good thing about powershell is P/Invoke via Add-Type and some Cshart vomit.

If you deal with windows all day and have to have a similar experience, sure. But really powershell fucking sucks honestly.
