if only other distros had the design sense to implement something remotely close to Ubuntu's pleasing looks. it is clean and consistent. pretty icons, nice color schemes, great font and easy to adapt dock/sidebar. There is no need for mint nonsense.
>>
>>108533110
Mint nonsense?
>>
>>108533186
they are in a mess with gtk 4 and libadwaita. everything is inconsistent
>>
>>108520929
the aesthetic is easy to copy
just use the ubuntu mono font and that other compacted one they use these days. also, yaru icons. change some colours in the terminal, and that's it. also, use that gnome extension that does the sidebar shtick.

this, whether you're a LLM/ML bull or bear, copilot fucking sucks. There is no actual usecase. I've had more luck with chatgpt/claude when dealing with actual microslop office suite products. there is zero excusing this. in no world should this happen.

nta, but Claude Code is an agentic coding tool that you would use in vibe coding. There are other tools available from other companies. And you can use those tools in ways that aren't "vibe coding". The key point about "vibe coding" is that you don't know, understand, or care what the tool is doing, as long as it seems like it works in the end. Many people use these tools in a more hands-on way that isn't vibing, they're telling it explicitly what to do and checking the results.

What's a good FOSS Cursor alternative I can use my Local models with? I was looking at Void Editor but it hasn't been updated since last year and they say production on it is paused. I tried the Continue.dev extension in VS Code but it doesn't let me use the git approve based system, it just gives me copypastable code and expects me to implement it myself. Unless I'm using it wrong, which I very well could be.

> most of the desktop's development comes from
Does not matter. Linux world is cucked, someone does the real job, someone else takes the credit and wraps it in a GUI and sells. Or just sells right away without doing much. Or steals you major killer features to avoid losing clientele.
Try to fight it and you will end up like that dude who won the case agains microsoft but ruined his entire life while doing it. Ended up old, divorsed and mentally broken.
All because Bill Gates stole his software (not figuratively, it was Bill personally failing to legally aquite and then ended up stealing his software and pretending it's Microsoft's property) and he refused to let it slide just because Bill was a big shot with connections in the government etc.

The game is rigged.

Based artistic soul anon.
When people ask what my job is, I jokingly begin with "I'm a metaphysicist", before clarifying that I'm a programmer.

Programming is, after all, without any exaggeration or sentimental interpretation, applied metaphysics.
>>
>>108532349
Anon you just articulated it perfectly and I never thought about it this way.
When I said it makes me if that's how God feels like, I was really referring to how I felt but couldn't articulate it well.
You are absolutely correct it is metaphysics.
Physics is about reverse engineering the laws of matters and interactions written by God into the universe.
Electronics is about using what we reverse engineered in the most malleable(at human scale with precision) lowest level of abstraction for these rules, that is, the electromagnetic level, to define our own unique systems of matters and interactions within the system of matters and interactions God created.
Computer science is about adding state(memory) and processing to these systems to make automatons that are no longer purely reactive.
Programming is the art of writing instructions for these automata to solve and create. This is where we get the closest to, "at the beginning was the word...".
We are now creating our own universes within the universe/system of matters and interactions God created. That is quite literally, indeed, applied metaphysics.
Thank you for making me realize
>>
>>108532349
>>108533146
What's even more interesting is how we are now trying to reverse engineer an even lower level of matters and interactions, to do with it what we did with the electromagnetic level : the quantum level.
Quantum computing just takes superposition and entanglement as the controllable primitives instead of voltage states as a way to define systems within the system of matters and interactions created by God.
But the quantum level is not as malleable, at least as of today, as the electromagnetic level. Hence why quantum computing is so hard. But I doubt we will ever get to the point where it is as malleable as the electromagnetic level. The problem is inherent to the nature of these layers. Electromagnetic shit is by nature more stable, easier to isolate, and more predictable. Quantum states are fragile and unstable by nature.

I hate it so much when halfway through a thread you discover anon was an LLM all along
>>
>>108533298
I'm not an LLM I'm just somewhat of an autist.
There are multiple errors in my texts actually because I write in streams of thoughts. Some of these make me uncomfortable but I try to ignore it.
For example >>108530115 "contingent to these patterns" is grammatically incorrect. It almost irks me but I left it alone because replying to it just to precise it should be "contingent on" or deleting and replying back, is a bit too much even by my standards for a mere 2ch post.
But an LLM wouldn't make such errors and it wouldn't have phrasing as awkward as mine(since I'm just casually writing in stream of thoughts (even these long ass parentheses is something no LLM would do and a bad habit of mine (because those are genuinely sub-thoughts (I consciously try to keep it to a minimum though when talking to other people, in my notes even talking to myself I have 20 layers of nested parentheses mid sentence all the time))))

Can't wait to see how chinks outproduce everyone and high end hardware prices collapse, deminishing returns in AI training confirmed and most things get back to normal, except only tech people remain in tech industry and we get tonns of hardware to play with. I could keep one with a battery and use it as a mobile server with it's own network (not connected to internet)
I hate how phones are disposable e-waste, we should be allowed to run them without a battery, there are many things we could do with a dead phone instead of buying sbcs
>>
>>108531816
5 year old phones have a way to limit and protect the battery while charging
you can plug the phone to usb c hub for the peripherials you need
just leave the battery and work on the rest of the project with built in ups
