They're both retarded digg clones. There is absolutely nothing of value on either. Neither of them are forums.

How many forums have you owned? How long did you contribute to multiple forum software projects? I'm guessing the answer to both is 0.
>I bet you think 4chan isn't a honeypot
We're all well aware of this fact.

You're here crying about HN. That's why everyone knows you're a massive faggot. Nothing of value was ever posted on HN and nothing of value ever will be. Who the fuck cares what a bunch of scam artists and trannys think.

READ THE (temp)WIKI! & help by contributing:
https://igwiki.lyci.de/wiki/Home_server

/hsg/ is about learning and expanding your horizons. Know all about NAS? Learn virtualization. Spun up some VMs? Learn about networking by standing up a OPNsense/PFsense box and configuring some VLANs. There's always more to learn and chances to grow. Think you’re god-tier already? Setup OpenStack and report back.

>What software should I run?
Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavor of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

>Why should I have a home server?
De-botnet your life. Learn something new. Serving applications to yourself, your family, and your frens feels good. Put your tech skills to good use for yourself and those close to you. Store their data with proper availability redundancy and backups and serve it back to them with a /comfy/ easy to use interface.

The opposite. Reinstalled Arch on another PC, everything except Firefox is good. But Firefox is at least just as bad under Windows.

There are lots of options for portable 5G routers that are powered via USB-C. Depends on how expensive data plans are in your cunt though. I get unlimited data for $13 a month, so have been using a 5G router as my home internet for 4 years now.

If the internet just stopped working for everyone everywhere at the same time it would be catastrophic. There's no way to prep for that other than going to the gun range/working out often and bank on becoming some sort of warlord.

So what's the deal with everyone hating on Rust?
The usual points people bring up are:
>wokism
>tranny language
>made by jews
>it's a cult

Disregarding the aforementioned points, can you tell me actual reasons for why a safe(r) programming language like Rust shouldn't be adopted more widely?

It's overkill for many applications. A lot of desktop software in particular is written in C/C++ for historical reasons and not because it actually needs C/C++/Rust levels of performance. You could take a 2x time and memory hit for a GC'd language and nobody would even notice. It would still be running circles around all the electron shit people are writing these days.
>>
syscalls are in C, once you need to go raw syscall, you have to talk C anyway, so whats the point in rust for lower level stuff.

I think its fine for more complex stuff, but if youre just gluing syscalls together, rust ain't it.

>Euros have no idea how much we pay for welfare here.

Euros have Medicare for everyone for free and pay less taxes than Americans for healthcare.

The problem is shareholders.

Every step of the way shareholders are taking money for doing nothing

Charging $15 for a $0.01 Tylenol dose is just an example of the entire healthcare industry

Government needs to be the only payer, put a gun to their head, and say

NO I'M NOT PAYING $15 FOR THE TYLENOL

Samsung's flagships have a pro mode that lets you adjust exposure time (t. S23U owner), but yeah I've personally never been that impressed with the RAWs out of my S23U. I do have a vivo X90 Pro+ with a 1 inch main camera and the RAWs out of that look quite good. Fairly sharp, wide dynamic range, noise pattern that isn't too egregious, more accurate colors SOOC compared to Samsung. They look less like they came out of a phone camera and more like a decent p&s camera.

They didn't actually invent a super fast camera. It's just a regular photo that's run through an algorithm to produce a video to give it an illusion of recording at faster speeds.

You are fundamentally right. The best possible move a programmer can make is to get out of the games industry.

Fedora 43, I'm on Ampere but accidentally used nvidia-open instead of nvidia module.
I had couple of 'gpu has fallen off the bus' total freezes before I realized something was off. nvidia-open also does not allow to disable gsp firmware.
I needed to force the old nvidia proprietary module by adding some fucking flag
>sudo sh -c 'echo "%_without_kmod_nvidia_detect 1" > /etc/rpm/macros.nvidia-kmod'
Or otherwise it would always use nvidia-open instead and I could not do anything about it.
I'm honestly thinking about reinstalling iot ltsc w10/11 again.

MPV on it's own is unusable since last time I checked it forces on screen controls onto you. At least not without going full tranny with a bunch of configs and shit. Using it with wrappers is pretty nice however. Haruna is probably the best media player I've used so far, other than maybe good old MPC.

Haven't used VLC properly in like 6 years but i remember switching because it was shit at handing some file types.
