bought an older XP computer cause I wanted an older machine to just own, I like the look of the old computer cases and wanted something that could run some old programs and cd-roms, didn't feel like emulating on my main pc.

anyway my problem is I'm struggling to make out some of these parts, and also what to do in regards of if I need to add anything else to it.

I'm gonna have to post like 5 comments under this with all the screenshots......

just curious why should I swap PSU's? the one I'm getting apparently works perfectly fine and everything so I'm a bit confused...

also did some research and I landed on getting a TP-LINK AC1200 Dual Band Wireless PCI Express Adapter for the PC, apparently still supports XP and people love to praise it

it works right? it looks pretty slow but its standardized atx parts. you can use iobit driverbooster to install missing drivers and then uninstall it because its aids

if you find that its too slow, because its pretty fucking slow, go on ebay and search under motherboard + cpu combo for anything that has a core 2 duo and includes ram, lots of those boards still have ide support and you wont have to change your disk or cd drive, dont spend more than $50

Don't buy anything OTHER THAN IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T, X, and W/P Series if you want the Real Business Experience™
>Other business laptops are welcome in /tpg/ (Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook)

Why ThinkPad?
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap
>Excellent keyboards, tactile feel and quiet + the TrackPoint
>Great durability: magnesium roll cage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop
>Easy to repair (most models), upgrade & maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model, spare parts easy & cheap to obtain
>Excellent Linux & *BSD support

alright sorry for the snark yesterday. I assumed becauce I am a boomer that minimal research would trivially show that there's no way your game runs on any iGPU
Apparently these got alot better in recent years and it would actually be close.
I still think you'll be better off with a discrete GPU but maybe someone else who has a current gen thinkpad can give you his experience

Because after 40 years people on this board still don't understand how this shit works.
They still don't know that Windows is the only OS that shows TiB as TB.
They still don't know that the label on a 2 TB HDD says "2,000,000,000,000 Bytes"
They still don't know that 1,000 =/= 1,024
Tech literacy on this board is on the same level as those people who give a 1 star rating on Amazon for a 2 TB HDD "because it only has 1.82 TB"
I've seen a thousand times higher tech literacy over on /diy/ than here in the past 8 years. I can't think anything else but that 99% of anons here are the little kids from that Linus Tech Tips convention photo.

Now you're starting to find out why I told you to check Device Manager to find out who the touchpad OEM is. Asus don't make the touchpad, some rando company (likely Synaptics, but it's not guaranteed) does.
Every laptop manufacturer gets the basic driver, brands it with their logos, adds (or removes) features to their tastes, then puts it up in the "Download drivers for Fagbook GAY-9000+" section of their website.
I, for example, had great success running the Twinkpad touchpad drivers on my Dell Latitude years back: both touchpads were made by Synaptics, but the "Lenovo" driver had more features/less disabled parts.
>>
>>107672212
I checked device manager and said in my last post that based on the hardware id provided it was a "focal tech" touchpad. But to be honest, could not find any driver for it. It was not synaptics nor elan, which seems to be a lot more supported.

>>107672120
I use microsoft's: Snipping Tool, Notepad, Paint, Photos, Gamebar, Calculator, Media Player (for Music), Clock, Terminal.
I grab jpgxl extension from the store so I have all extensions/codecs setup, I grab the newer powershell from the store so terminal doesn't annoy me, I also go into the terminal and grab winget. I then download and install chrome and setup ublock origin lite, and I grab 7-Zip/JDownloader/qBittorrent for Piracy, I also grab MPC-HC for movies as Media Player can't run QxRs mkv files, and I grab steam, amd gpu whql drivers with driver only install, latest c++ redist in 64bit and 32bit, and directx. That's about all I need, everything else is preinstalled like file explorer, task manager, settings, etc. then just download and play pirated vidya.

That's not a name I've heard in a LONG time. I remember playing with it when it was still called PE2LX. It was just built on top of the Open32 API, but I hear that changed later.
>>
>>107672464
PE2LX was just the permanent binary converter and part of Odin, while PE was the dynamic on-the-fly method like Wine.
>>

In the beginning, PE2LX was all that was available. The in-place PE loader came later, after I'd lost interest. I'm talking 1998 here, back before it was even called Odin.

well let's say you have an external DLL function called ExitProcess which doesn't return. the compiler can't see into the DLL and know that it doesn't return. so you need to use those attributes in those cases where the compiler cannot see into the function you're applying the attribute to.
>>107672628
It reduces code size slightly and can also get rid of compiler warnings for when your function "doesn't return a value" or whatever. Also the compiler can just delete all the code you write after ExitProcess, because it knows that code won't execute (useful if you map a macro to either ExitProcess or something else).
>>107672698
when you develop for Linux you can get away with not making a GUI because linux users are tinker trannies who are willing to put up with command line shit.
Windows users won't put up with that crap so you need to make a GUI. And when you use your own programs extensively, you soon realize that the CLI is an annoying waste of time, so you might put in the effort to convert your program to GUI.

sooo since the mpv yt-dlp ffmpeg bread died i guess this is the new /mpv/ bread?
if so: i recently finaly got a vrr (freesync) monitor, /g/ told me you can definitely get vrr going in mpv for judder free video playback at any framerate... but i just can't get it to work
currently running video-sync=audio interpolation=off but it's the same with display resample
also tried a bunch of other shit like vulkan instead of dx11 (freezes and just doesn't work), vrr is enabled in windows and dynamic refresh rate on/off doesn't make a difference, it just says 180 hz (maximum rate of the monitor) and gets stuck there, monitor vrr readout is static at 180 like it is with regular desktop usage.
am i missing something? does it only work on troonix and not wangblows?
