I'm glad UMPCs have gone through a revival but I really wish China would make stuff in the OQO or UMID form factors and sizes, I want truly ultra mobile x86 computers with specs from this decade
>>107709926I have this laptop. It's OK. CPU performance is enough for web browsing, but not a whole lot more. GPU is basically just good for hardware video decode. When I first got it, Linux support was questionable. It took a fair amount of work to get the touchscreen working, and sound didn't work. But these days everything just works at least with newer versions of Ubuntu. Only other weird thing is that the mouse buttons are mapped to the numpad, so you will need to remap them. Battery life seems pretty good.I had the bearings go out in the fan after a couple months. So I just unplugged the fan and added some more thermal pads to utilize the metal case as heatsink and the thing stays perfectly cool (and a lot quieter too). The biggest problem with this device and probably all mini laptops is that the screen is just too small to easily use most applications with reasonable scaling. I don't need a laptop all that often, so I can live with it. But don't expect to do extended work on the laptop's built in screen. And there is no multifunction USB C port, so don't expect to be able to use a docking station either.

When you replace a worker you save the money on their salary as a company and if they can’t find similar job you also remove one potential customer, the saved money can be reinvested into higher productivity to save more money and maybe pass it down on the consumer. All of these actions decrease GDP and possible steps which you can tax. If you scale it up you will have decreased consumer spending, decreased income taxes, decreased revenues, overproduction (which will result in either waste or deflation) and so on, things that make the national debt even worse, and that is not even mentioning the hundreds of millions of unemployed people that are angry and were promised UBI by AI faggots, which would make government deficit skyrocket. At this point AI either fails and causes collapse of western civilisation or it succeeds and causes bigger collapse of western civilisation.
can someone explain that part to me?because if a piece of software is open-source under the GPL and everyone has access to it, couldn't they just compile the source code themselves and have a copy of the program?and while not everyone is willing to compile a program from source instead of just paying a small fee (i'd be guilty of that), surely someone would eventually start releasing binaries, right? or they might be able to make a loophole that doesn't distribute binaries but makes the compiling element easier and streamlined. what's even the point of making people pay at that point? or is it intended so that only idiots and people who want to donate will pay?

Should we all try to become managers? I'm at 150K as a senior dev, tolerably happy, but when I hear about people I know having titles with "manager" in them, I get to wondering if I ought to be at their level and I'm being complacent.
