How do I make modern technology bearable and user friendly again?

Technology has never been this user-friendly, it's never been easier to use a computer, even idiots and third worlders can do it.
The problem is that, at the same time it's extremely hostile to users, even if you're not using Windows the Internet and all the internet-adjacent services are anti-user and anti-privacy.
When was the last time a paid program or service got better and cheaper? It doesn't, everything is switching to subscriptions, those get more expensive, ads are added where they weren't before, features get removed and so on, and it's all unilateral, you have no say as they change the terms of the sale after the fact.
The only real answer is FOSS, even if you have to make some compromises.

You couldn't even install XP on a SATA HDD without side loading drivers from an FDD or slip streaming it in the ISO.
SP3 supports most SATA controllers out of the box, but that was not the case when back when the switch from PATA to SATA happened.

They became #1 by providing a convenient service
They remain #1 because consumers don't want to download a dozen different clients all running in the background simultaneously and managing different purchases across all of them. Since most competitors try to make their stores and launchers exclusive or mandatory, they were rejected.
There's no use trying to compete or be anti-monopoly in this sector because the consumers themselves don't want it.
>>
>>107731743
They set themselves up as the first good alternative for pirating and kept their formula instead of other companies like Noseflix who threw away their edge by greed. Also Valve doesn't have competent competition. The only alternative that slightly comes close to Steam is gog galaxy while bigger companies like epic, ea and ubicucks all have terrible clients that barely have the basics.

literally who downloads music?

you can make the case for tv/movies because of the streaming service fragmentation, but this is not an issue with music...

yt-dlp, Spotify and Soundcloud covers everything, and NO you cannot hear the difference between FLAC and MP3 you tranny
>>
>>107732507
I mainly listen to music while moving and I don't wanna waste mobile data
I also don't need new songs because I have a curated library of songs I like so there's literally no benefit to streaming
also, there are streaming sites that offer flac, so I could get best of both

This is entirely what's going on right now.
The U.S. MIC and government is scared out of their mind that a runaway ai powerhouse in the hands of a foreign government could shift the reliance on U.S. data centers. Its the same thing that happened with crypto when foreign markets started building cheap crypto mining centers in the middle of Eurasia but this has the potential to spread internationally with it's outreach. Its the same old game of pushing your products to the third world and cornering the market before the competition can get it's foot in the door. Look at all the foreign governments that desperately want to get into the american market purely for the purposes of crashing the economy. China wants to do that on an international scale with ai while America wants to strangle the foreign governments around the world for the same reason. This explains alot about whats going on in the news beyond even the ai tech front. AI well only increase the level of sophistication and complexity that these economic mechanisms are manipulated.
>>
>>107729979
No, you are implying there is some kind of bubble when the US wants this technology to advance. A bubble implies an uncontrolled economic situation.
>>
>>107729998
Its the only reason I can see for the insane pricing and the circular money that's going from nvidia to amd/Intel etc . The RAM chip shit as well I think we might be seeing actual economic war going on vs china.

they were tolerable on 15" crt monitors, or televisions, but as someone who lived through that era, 360p youtube never looked /good/. not even close, who are you kidding? it was worse than even VHS quality bit a wide margin. we accepted it because that's just what we could get given the internet speeds and compression codecs that were available, but compared to other media even at the time it was the lowest quality you could get.

What's the point of boxing a value in a dynamically typed language?
Boxed or not, if I'm getting a value I presumably want to do something with it, so I have to care about the type of the value to know what I can do with it. I don't see you doing me any favours by making that harder for me.
Good job reinventing NaN i guess.

I do agree, I'll definitely need to add at least type hinting down the line
>>107732333
>I don't see you doing me any favours by making that harder for me.
I'm not sure why you say boxing the type would make it harder. in situations where you'd want to box a value, if the language supported null as opposed to boxed types, you'd still have to handle the nullability with if myval != null, with the only difference being that now you're not straight up forced to include the check which could lead to NPE-style bugs

I wasn't a big fan of computer nerds in the 00s but they're so much worse now that they do this thing where they pretend to be a girl IRL because they played as one for 5000 hours in video games and it aroused them
>>
>>107731900
Something I am very grateful for is my thousands of hours AI genning women's faces, thousands of hours watching porn, and constant exposure to "pretty faces" through social media. I am totally desensitized to normal girl faces now, and especially "conventionally beautiful" ones. I see all the simping over any and every dime-a-dozen non-fat (sometimes fat, even) woman as the farce that it is. It's a freedom I couldn't have dreamed of when I was a young lad.

I can still be partial to a foid, but with an awareness that I am fond of a simple creature, a mere woman, who has no special claim on my affections except that I offer them freely and willingly for my own sake or for God's.

I literally used sidestore on my 16 pro max and you are so full of shit. Sidestore VPN has been broken for over a month so you have to use a different one. And you still need to be on a WiFi connection and actively go into the app to refresh or setup a shortcut to do it which is annoying as shit. The pairing file will break at some point needing you to redo it using a pc before your apps stops working. The whole thing is unstable as shit and can break any moment. It needs you to constantly pay attention or you will lose your apps. Fucking lying shill
>>
>>107732394
What you explained is straight up user error if you refuse to watch the video I posted that shows you how to sideload and install apps in the new way. instead of arguing why don't you use the link that I provided from a video from yesterday posted by the biggest side store loading YouTube content creator? If I'm lying why is he able to install an IPA and show that certificates are not being revoked? You just sound mad for no reason and it's okay we're only here to discuss about smartphones and you're taking it so personally.

Keep spreading misinformation because I have sideloaded on iOS for so long and know it always breaks at some point because apple will shut it down every now and then. It's always been that way. Sideloading has always been a bitch on iOS and still is. What works now and seems to be flawless will stop working out of nowhere at some point. Always the same shit with apple. Always a new shill who don't know what they talk about trying to groom new users with lies
>>
>>107732434
>>107732456
You can go to YouTube and find so many videos of people installing sidestore and altstore without a PC successfully and running IPA files successfully and the most recent video was posted yesterday showing it still working and it's still working for me at the moment. Instead of attacking me and trying to insult me why are you not capable of having an intellectual discussion? Why am I posting links with videos and proof and you're over here spewing your opinions instead of facts? Is that how you have a tech discussion with people here bro?
