About GUI toolkits, which data structurs/algorithms do they use to find out which button you clicked or overed based on the mouse's (x,y) screen coordinates? There can be many buttons you can click in a given GUI and it's 2D, so...
>>107849189not worth optimizing, the only thing worth optimizing is text.if you care, you could benchmark.but I think you will be spending 0.00001% of your time on UI input / collision events.Maybe 0.1-10% on UI rendering depending on how much text you render.10000hz polling mouse inputs don't send 10000 events, it only does that if you enable raw input, which is usually when the mouse is hidden in 3d games (and even then, the number of events are reduced in something like SDL2 to reduce stutter).

Yet fb/ig keeps banning me every time I try making a new acc because presumably I haven't deleted my old ones and they won't allow more than 1 acc, and I can't remember the password to them or their email acc. Just kill everyone working in Meta at this point. I fucking hate this world. My name is not important. What is important is what I'm going to do... I just fucking hate this world. And the human worms feasting on its carcass. My whole life is just cold, bitter hatred. And I always wanted to die violently. This is the time of vengeance and no life is worth saving. And I will put in the grave as many as I can. It's time for me to kill. And it's time for me to die. My genocide crusade begins here.

What is the point of using Linux when every CPU has a baked-in unremovable backdoor (Intel ME / AMD PSP / Apple Secure Enclave)?
>>107849070Because OS preference has nothing to do with potential hardware backdoors that may or may not exist. You might as well be asking what's the point in owning a computer when they all have secure "secure" enclaves / management engines.Answer:This doesn't prevent me from using it to play video games, watch movies, do programming and shitposting. If you need secure computing then maybe don't buy a computer and go and live in a cabin in the woods instead.

after a few failed attempts i am finally making progress on my engine without getting stuck.the secret was to forget about trying to have good architecture and just have a sandbox file to just add and try random shit in.if i make something decent, i clean it up and put it into its own source fileif i need somethign specific i can focus on that alone i do spend too much time on thinking about the design, but i just doodle diagrams and dont code anything until i have it worked out

>>107849102>Lost art paradoxically is used more for crafts and trades than actual artIf you look at antique, hand-made items then compare them to the soulless, mass-produced slop ushered in by capitalists and their anti-luddite bugmen, you realize a quality piece of any "utilitarian" item used to double as actual art, even if it was a simple chair or fork. Any craft or trade sufficiently honed becomes artisanship. If a phrase like "art for the masses" means anything, it could only mean that. Of course, the slave owner class wants the masses to be artless. Now you can only think about the objects that support your daily life in the terms of a spiritually barren and dehumanizing environment, so it's a paradox to you when someone talks about "the lost art" of creating them when really it should be a sad reminder.
>>107846724Correct. Was that hard? I don't think so. Why couldn't the PhD-level AGI candidate totally solving all those leetcode puzzles using the power of its intellect apply its ample intellectual prowess here? :^)

>>107849295Digital and biological retards can """code""" but only humans can program. Learn to program.
>>107845213The main reason is that coders were "about to be replaced" pretty much constantly since the beginning of the profession. First it was assemblers, then compilers, then various low-code/no-code abortions, now LLMs. All it ever did was induce demand and push the needed expertise further up.

I guess I have MW4 to thank for my fondness for the number pad. I had never played a game with controls that complicated, and when Dad first got the game installed, I was furious when I began the tutorial. It seemed impossible. I was used to just arrow keys to move, and space bar to shoot. Dad did the tutorial for a minute or so, and showed me how to play. Game became my obsession for years. I still hum the soundtrack. And I still like numpads.

>>107849118Not quite the point I was making. I was advocating for simpler more direct rendering pipelines. PS1 games running at high res look amazing, as do a lot of older pc games that had simple rendering pipelines without post processing. The point of the post was not to specifically single out PS1 games as looking, better, it was to contrast older rendering methods against modern ones.
