https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/12/uk-to-encourage-apple-and-google-to-put-nudity-blocking-systems-on-phones/

>The UK government reportedly will “encourage” Apple and Google to prevent phones from displaying nude images except when users verify that they are adults.

>The forthcoming push for nudity-blocking systems was reported by the Financial Times today. The report said the UK won’t institute a legal requirement “for now.” But asking companies to block nude images could be the first step toward making it mandatory if the government doesn’t get what it wants.

>The Home Office “has initially focused on mobile devices,” but the push could be expanded to desktops, the FT said. Government officials point out that Microsoft can already scan for “inappropriate content” in Microsoft Teams, the report said.

Yeah but unfortunately it requires you to be literate enough that you bother reading the first post in the thread so I think you're doomed to fail.

There are certain fuckass laptop power management chips that don't work well in Linux, and you end up with it running slow or not lasting long on a charge.

Nah those chink laptops are not even that bad I had super cheap one and it didn't have any fatal flaw that would make it pain to use.
Also bios on those is crazy, it's generic board made for all kind of laptops and number of setting and options is nothing you have ever seen, screens and screens of stuff to play with.

Works fine for me in Bottles. There's plenty of documentation online on how to set it up. It's just a matter of installing the necessary font package, and in very few cases going to the settings of your wineprefix/bottle and changing the locale to JP. This is something you have to only do once and forget about it.

>>107578025
If you're asking if WINE will detect that you're installing a JP game and switch your locale and pull the necessary fonts, no. Windows doesn't do it so neither will WINE. Same with installing necessary dlls, if the installer doesn't do it for you (most didn't back then) then you'll have to do it yourself. In Bottles that's all under Bottles->Dependencies, and if you're using WINE raw then you'd use winetricks I think.
>>
>>107578025
You have to do it manually but that sounds like you were just taking shots in the dark. Generally if you try to run the program through with "wine [insert program exe here]" and if fails the terminal will tell you why and sometimes it will literally just say "missing 123.dll" and then you just go into winetricks and download that .dll and you'll never have that problem again in that wineprefix. Most if not all errors that wine throws at you through terminal can be researched for a deeper understand.
>>
>>107577990
I'm playing Elona right now and had literally no problem setting it up, I did have to play with it to get the MIDI music to play, but once that was solved I was good to go.
>>
>>107578025
With anything with linux the majority of it is not automated which means you'll have to learn how your system works and how the program works (or at least the part that is breaking or throwing errors). This means that you'll have to deal with frustrating troubleshooting that could take multiple hours, google searching solutions, having to deal with people who are dicks to you because you are new or don't know something; but if you stick with it you'll gain confidence and it gets easier.
If you're the kind of person that wants to play Japanese video games, do little to no troubleshooting, and really have no interest in computers outside of entertainment then I would honestly say buy an old desktop from that era and use that to play your VNs, or another solution.

There is no guarantee, because you just translocated the problem to the body of another function. Use a fold over iterators, not a fucking for loop. All you've done here is make a mess.

All the compile time guarantees in the world won't fix dogshit organizational skills.

I will admit, I was tempted for about 3 seconds only because I am desperate. Then just for keks I clicked the "Apply Now" button and saw it went to that familiar USAJOBs portal so it's just same shit different box. Then there's this "two-year commitment" language. WTF that all about? Hmm. Air force. Space force... Tech force...? Yeah I can read between the lines. I ain't programming in no fucking tincan in a warzone bro. No thanks. And I am never letting go of my civilian status, never. Working for the gubment always ends with "thank you for your service, good luck out there, sorry we refuse to acknowledge that we fucked you up mentally and physically." The government is not the country. Get that through your glowie heads. The government is not the country. The government is a parasite that killed the host. The host is dead.

What you're suggesting is options to install only free software using the nonfree distros. That doesnt make them free distros, because they still contain nonfree software, but you could still privately recommend them to someone if you know they wont be easily steered towards installing nonfree software.
