I’ve been running Linux Mint for over four years and was happy with it until the recent drama, especially the AI security scan fiasco. It really shook my trust in the maintainers.I started looking for alternatives, but after testing hundreds of distros, none of them met my expectations for stability and reliability. I began to accept that my system would just break from time to time until I found a thread recommending Windows Seven as a rock-solid alternative. After researching, it turns out this version is still surprisingly usable. It’s stable, reliable, and with extended updates plus a good firewall, security isn’t a major issue.Has anyone else tried this? How did it go for you? Personally, I haven’t run into a single problem so far.
I'm thinking of taking the Trisquel pill because doctor stallman recommends it

There really is no decent language to start a new project in, is there?
>>107681652Your complaint about C is really about pointers. Null terminated strings are irrelevant and did not need be mentioned. Your argument would have applied just the same if C had used pascal strings, or even had a proper string object.

did all the chinese programmers disappear? you don't even hear about them anymore. did they all go back to china?
if you can tard wrangle AI agents and know how to fine tune a model you should easily be able to find a job it seems.

No one gives a shit if a game or program is 99% AI code, but if any part of the front end is touched by AI it's time to riot.Far more people's jobs are at risk from AI language related tasks but the entire anti ai movement is based on shitty twitter artists doodles
>>107678768Because artists managed to create a narrative about why they are so important and normies embraced it. Also this: >>107680487
>>107678768TRVTHNVKE. I work in finance (the boring accounting type, not the chad selling your grandma his synthethic cdo type) and I'm pretty sure that within the next decade or two I'll be competing for McJobs with all the Computer Basedientists.
>>107678768because art is human expression and removing the human from that process fundamentally misses the point.
>>107678768You can tell an image seems like AI from a look. You only realize vibe code when it breaks, like how Microsoft keeps breaking their OS.Plus image gen AI slop makers spam their stuff non stop where people can see it while the back end is, like always, in the back end and unseen.
>>107682964and here it is, you just don't think coding or translation or anything to do with text is expressive
Fellow software engineers, what's your plan for the next 5-10 years?I wasn't worried until Sonnet & Opus 4.5 but it genuinely one shots everything I give it. We went from doing 30 story points (team of 4) to 60 per sprint after the release. The writing is on the wall, software engineering will be the first white collar job to be automated. What do we do afterwards?
>>107681082Not really, unless the team is directly managed by upper management. Middle management never want headcount reductions, as it's bad for their own careers. For them it's preferable to have engineers idle or 100% making powerpoint fodder than to lose headcount. They don't really care about AI other than that they "drove AI adoption cross-functionally for 247% efficiency gain".
>>107678679this, just waiting to see how bad it gets
Started reading through https://standards.nasa.gov/NASA-Technical-Standards to see what actual engineers do
How do you cope with the increased workloads?AI hasn't replaced programming jobs yet, but It feels like they just throw more shit at you with smaller teams and shorter deadlines?
>>107679408finally someone sensible in here, this constant moaning is so fucking annoying,
