Yeah it do be like that. Just buy 2-bit MLC SSDs if you can't "recharge" your 3-bit SSD once a year, I heard they're supposed to protect data for 10-20 years powered off. If you NEED your chinese cartoons to survive 100 years then neither tape drives nor 2-bit MLC SSDs will suffice, only m-discs can give that kind of data retention.
>>
A good tape drive will last you a lifetime and it will pay for itself if you´re storing 500Tb or more of data
>>
>>107629838
"Lifetime" actually means 10-20 years depending on climate control. After that it rots and your data is kaput. Which makes 2-bit MLCs better since you can "recharge" them.
>>
>>107629743
Is there any way to rent or use a communal tape drive?

What’s up with all the anti Windows 7 posts lately?

I switched from Gentoo to Windows 7 Platinum a few weeks ago, and I haven’t had a single issue so far.

It’s noticeably faster than any DE or WM I’ve tried, which honestly surprised me, especially considering I’m running an RTX 5090.

At first, I was worried about security and getting hacked. But it turns out I can install a fully up to date browser and a modern firewall, so that’s no longer a concern.

It’s also much easier to use overall. The UI is consistent, clear, and easy to read. Because of that, I installed it on my girlfriend’s laptop and my parents’ PC as well and they’re really happy with it.

I genuinely don’t understand why some people are so strongly opposed to it, especially considering the massive influx of AI generated packages Linux distros have seen in recent months.

This will only become easier as this demented cucklord bents the knee even more. I'm willing to bet all my life savings that there is an intentional exploit - state sponsored or not, in the linux kernel

You also have to remember that it's not just the kernel but the wide and far ocean of userspace programs that anyone can "contribute" to

Wasn't there malware discovered in the AUR a few weeks ago?

Someone also put a backdoor into xz (which allowed rce over SSH). It was only discovered through SHEER luck.
Also this prompts the question of why the fuck the SSH server is loading a compression library to begin with. Big spaghetti mess of jeet code which depends on a billion other libraries because the Linux OS has no libraries built-in like Windows does.

maybe yall could help me

ive got 2 PCs hooked up to a KVM, one for work. My personal PCs hooked up to an audient evo 16 interface for recording, and the work PC just has a cheap USB audio adapter, USB-A to 3.5mm, the ugreen one on amazon for like 12 bucks. They both get sent into a cheap 4 channel mixer (pic related) so I can make them both hit my headphone amp (atom amp+). The cheap ugreen adapter makes some noise which is fine because I can just turn it down at the mixer when I'm not working, but I don't like the fact that my personal PC hits this mixer. I'd like my personal PC to be as unaffected by gear as possible, within reason. The interface is necessary, the amp is necessary (interface doesn't feed my headphones enough, beyer dt990 250 ohm), but idk how else to get both sources into the same headphone amp without introducing some kind of mixer. I tried a cheap passive mixer but it reduced volume significantly.

Is the answer to get another HP amp, one that has 2 inputs and a volume knob for each?

Or is the answer to get a better passive mixer?

USA btw, budget like ~200 USD

>>
>>107629570
A passive mixer is just a couple of resistors and potentiometers, it's always gonna significantly cut down on volume. I think the actual solution might be to get a better active mixer that boosts the final signal back up to line level.
I suppose you could also run the output from the work PC into one of the inputs of the interface and turn on monitoring for that when needed, eliminating the separate mixer entirely and letting the interface handle that instead, but then you're giving up one of its inputs permanently and you'll need to remember to turn down that channel any time you want to record something.

No. I built my NAS years before I got into home servers and use it entirely for cold storage. The (12) disks are lucky to get 10 hours a year of use and letting them (and the fans) run 24/7 would be a hell of a waste.
Knowing what I know now, rather than a jumble of 12 disks, I'd just buy 4 20TB drives a miniITX board and install it all in a 3d printed 10" rack mount case and run truenas as a VM on a forbidden router.
Right now I've got a mini PC running home assistant OS that has addons for CCTV, torrents and a 4TB SSD samba share, and that covers all my basic needs.

Answer me these questions three, and revealed it shall how much of a retard I be:
>How dumb of an idea would it be to try and cram a pair of enterprise m.2 drives (eg. Samsung PM9A3) into a 65W mini PC?
>If I go with consumer SSDs instead, and interrogating them with nvme-cli reports a physical/logical block size of '512e', then (presuming this info will not be specified in the datasheet) is there any way to check what sector size the drives are actually using- without going through the rigmarole of remaking a storage pool to test the performance of 512b vs 4kb, etc.?
>Unrelated to the above, if you have a server mobo with four memory slots that caps out at 256GB of RAM (if populated with 4x 64GB RDIMMs), but you only had enough cash to buy either 1x 64GB vs. 4x 32GB sticks, what would you do? Lock yourself in forever at 128GB, or hope RAM prices drop in future and that you'll be able to scrounge up three more of the relatively rare 2Rx4 DDR4 64GB modules you need?
>>
>>107620983
Bump
>>
>>107627979
Do you actually have a use case for 256GB RAM? Do you even have a use case for 128GB RAM? With memory capacity you either need it or you don't, if you don't then having a ridiculous amount won't really help you in any way.
