>its not impractical its trivial to do and most people would appreciate just talking to people in their own town
It is trivial to do, and it sounds good on paper, but come on. Something this trivial has been attempted before. People have making "the alternative Facebook" thousands of times, and you never heard about it because nobody actually used or appreciated it.
Facebook using normies just use the "[town] Facebook Group" page. They're not looking to sign up for something else. And people like me, who never used Facebook, are never going to use your alternative because people like us never liked the idea of that kind of social media to begin with.
I'm already on Element/Matrix instead of Discord, I don't use Google for anything, and I of course don't use Microsoft products. Unfortunately these alternatives only appeal to tech nerds, and so they're completely useless for communicating with your normie friends and family.
>>

>>
your problem is thinking in terms of direct alternatives. e.g. an "alternative facebook", rather than looking at the problem from a much higher level.
4chan is an alternative facebook, writing a novel using a typewriter is an alternative facebook, standing on a bridge and jerking off is an alternative facebook. why? because the fundamental purpose of all of these things is to occupy your attention. there are 24 hours in a day. instead of asking: how can i re-implement x or y bullshit but MY way, ask: what isn't already being done, has existing demand or is likely to find itself in-demand if you commit to it, and is within your capabilities to deliver. this sounds high-and-mighty but can be as trivial as "a neocities blog where i share 4chan posts i enjoyed every friday"
you're not going to get 8 billion people looking at that, but you might get 30 or 300.

an obsession with technical competence is one of the many blind alleyways these sorts of things usually go down. another is attempting to go cold turkey on the centralized web instead of utilizing it, as minimally as possible, to try to funnel people elsewhere. it's no great sin to use discord if you can use it to funnel people onto another site or into a game or whatever, and it can be a great sin to use matrix (as one or two small/mid tier imageboards have found when their entire userbase hopped over to vegan discord to the detriment of the board.)

as lame as it sounds: you have to like people. it is deeply uncool, but you have to recognize that the problem with the centralized web is a technological one and a sociological one, but not a human one. it is entirely possible to have 8 billion people online in a better way than this.

>>H1B is a total meme MIGA boomers fell for
>it's really not, we let in 120k h1b jeets this year alone. next year is probably going to be the same amount too.

isn't that because it's a random lottery? i assume there's easily tens of millions of indians spamming the H1B applications, plus any possible fraud like an indian using 10 of his family members' names to apply for a H1B then showing up himself. unless they changed something about it. in any case that doesn't leave a lot of room for europeans to get in. i don't think it's very smart to be lining up to go to the states anyway because of the political turbulence. there's no telling what will happen in the next couple of years, like you may get deported and have all your assets seized

anyway just had a random thought, i wonder what dating apps look like in bigger cities now? i assume it'd be like 90% south asians looking for women nowadays

New Zeihan just dropped. Firstly, he says that Reuters article is straight up CCP propaganda, it's 100% fake, just another chinese psyop. 2ndly, even if it was true, it doesn't actually mean anything. It was directly reversed engineered and cobbled together via old ASML EUV parts, China didn't actually make anything themselves, they just glued a bunch of old ASML EUV parts together into a barely functional machine. They can't actually make any of the high tech parts themselves. They are still decades away from mass production of true EUV.

Let's look at the timeline here. As Zeihan states, it will be 2030 before they can produce a single chip from it. A super shitty chip with lots of defects and horrible yields as the EUV is a secondhand piece of shit, so it's not going to viable even for small scale production. It will take another decade after 2030 to improve the EUV machine until it has the performance of ASML's current EUV machines and and can actually fab 3nm nodes at a decent yield and performance.

And modern fabs needs like dozens of EUV machines per fabs for mass production, with hundreds of fabs needed to produce enough semiconductors for China's needs . Even with a truly viable EUV machine, China will need to build up the supply chain to mass produce the EUV to the tune of dozens a month to catch up to ASML and TSMC's output. Which will take another 15-20 years to build up the the immense domestic EUV supply chain within China.

So add everything together and we're looking at another 30-40 years before China can mass produce 3nm chips in bulk. And of course, in the 2050-2060s, ASML will be on next gen lithography beyond even high NA-EUV and TSMC/Intel/Samsung will be on picometer nodes. China will still be decades behind. In fact Zeihan says that 7nm will be the last major node that they will ever fab, after all as Zeihan also notes, don't forget that China is headed towards total economical and demographic collapse by 2030 anyway.

>>
>>107680465
depends how good/bad your monitor/pc dac is.
the audio signal from pc to displayport isn't really an additional step because the signal is still completely digital in that phase, you could also throw a displayport switch and a bunch of other bullshit in there and it wouldn't make a difference in sound quality, there's no loss before the signal gets converted to analog by the dac.
>>
>>107680465
DisplayPort is digital and doesn't degrade audio unless the implementation or connection is somehow broken, so most likely it comes down to how the DAC in your monitor compares to the DAC in your PC, to which the answer is: who knows?

I legitimately can not discern the difference between 128kbps audio and anything higher bitrate. For years I've seen anons argue about 320kbps, FLAC, WAV, and so forth. But honest to God, the difference to my ears is near imperceptible. I listen to headphones for 8+ hours every day, and even I can't tell the difference. Sure my equipment is not top-tier, but I doubt that explains it.

For my favorite music, I can just about tell the difference between 128kbps and 320kbps. Like if I really try hard. But anything above that.. forget it. I really feel people are lying when they claim they are able to hear nuances beyond 320kbps. I believe higher than 320kbps is hardcore placebo-tier and people who hoard FLACs are raping their limited storage capacity for no reason.

What do you think? Is the audiophile culture plagued by lying cocksuckers, or do some people have golden ears?

Never even know about mp3 V0. But im not an audiophile. I just downloand FLAC when I get a chance. Most pirate sites only offer MP3(whatever version) and flac. I think the problem is no one can come to a consensus.
I watched a video on YouTube about the guy complaing about mp3 and he never mentioned V0 but he went over how most audio software doesn't even have much option in output itself. Don't know if that's true.
But from that I figured the consensus is their is to much variety for anyone to actually decide what's best

A Junior colleague doesn't know what a primary key is but he insisted he wants to write a SQL script which we need to execute on live environment
We had an argument with another developer, he used AI to create counter arguments on my arguments
We had to delete lots of rows and one of the developers came up with SQL Server Heaps (first time I see them)

Satan trips knows how Satan works.
Also, there was a study I remember reading a few months back, which confirms exactly what you are saying. Where they tested the intelligence of people who used AI to varying degrees for writing tasks, and the ones who relied on it the most ended up with diminished mental facilities.

The other day I remember telling my mother that it's important as she gets older that she find ways to learn new things every day. My grandmother had alzheimers, and it does run in the family, but one of the things about alzheimers is you can reduce the likelihood of it occurring if you are using your brain more often. Learn new things, make it do work every day for some purpose. Create new neural connections and you won't lose the ones you have.

Do you think it might be possible that those who rely most heavily on AI to do thinking for them might end up with something like early onset dementia? Because that shit is some serious body horror, wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
