What's so special about Arch? Why does it get memed on so hard? People say it has bleeding edge packages but why is that so important? Is it better for gaming or something? What makes it different from Mint?
>>107709808Getting the latest versions for all software IS inherently more unstable than sticking to the stable versions. Shit, I've had a kernel update break things due to a bug in the ext4 driver (thankfully I was able to just switch to using an older kernel version and it didn't cause any file corruption in my system, at least)So yes, Arch is inherently unstable.
>>107709731>Why would I want less software? What software do you actually use that isn't available on, say, Debian?
>>107709451it gets shilled hard by people who don't know much about linux or know nothing about linuxsetting up arch is the equivalent of manually running a bunch of shell commands intead of just putting them in a script and executing the scriptyou're not a hacker because you followed the wiki 100% and manually typed in everything that every other linux distro's installer would have done automatically
>>107709490I had two occasions when CachyOS broke (but it was easy to fix):1. One day I've upgraded Mesa and DE was refusing to load. Turns out I had regular mirrors that weren't up to date to I've updated mesa from Cachy repos that was dependent on llvm 18 but my regular arch mirrors were still shipping llvm 17. After rating mirrors and upgrading from tty issue was gone2. Second time it was with some zen5 and rdseed fuckery when I've updated kernel to 6.18 and it disabled rdseed for my CPU so again I've been locked out of DE since SDDM was coredumping with error "Incompatible CPU" lmao

It's been a few years since its birth, and many people in tech have made similar decisions, mostly because they struggle to find other options. Over the years they have seen this combination of two different worlds nurtured, and regret, anger, relief, and many emotions ensuedIs it worth it, /g/?

Why don't we have a similar system as the Seiko Kinetic watches for recharging the batteries from smartbands and smartwatches?
I am moving from a desktop to laptops, and I need to delete as much old stuff as possible to fit.Tbh, a lot of stuff like bookmarks is dead or unusable.>Bookmarks to svg/css generators are 404,>These 2010's graphical trends are considered bad taste anyways,>Backups of old frameworks or libraries like bootstrap or old 3d stuff for python make no sense - if framework is gone, then it means it shouldn't be used anymore. >Why would I want to code anything qbasic in 2026, in the first place?>Who would like old versions of video games, like the beta/alpha stuff that came with magazines I cleared 250g so far, but it took me 2 days - old stuff is really light on disk space.

It constantly fails to connect to gmail. If I just let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes, it will eventually connect. The other email clients can't connect to gmail with oauth, so I'm basically stuck having to use webmail now.
It looks like the ArchLinux community have noticed how shit Thunderbird is now too and and have abandoned it. It's just fucking dead. Not worth using anymore.

Why are these things still made and used? Most phones don't include a slot for them, and they're the only device small (if modern phones can even be called that) enough to justify using them over a full size card. I know the Switch and Steam Deck use them, but those are also big enough that they surely could've made them with full-size cards in mind
>>107709604So they can charge you way more for a 1 TB model, and so you'll buy more than you need because you know you won't be able to simply jam a cheap SD card in it when you run low on storage.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatbot_psychosis>In his editorial published in Schizophrenia Bulletin's November 2023 issue, Danish psychiatrist Søren Dinesen Østergaard proposed a hypothesis that individuals' use of generative artificial intelligence chatbots might trigger delusions in those prone to psychosis. Østergaard revisited it in an August 2025 editorial, noting that he has received numerous emails from chatbot users, their relatives, and journalists, most of which are anecdotal accounts of delusion linked to chatbot use. He also acknowledged the phenomenon's increasing popularity in public engagement and media coverage. Østergaard believed that there is a high possibility for his hypothesis to be true and called for empirical, systematic research on the matter. Nature reported that as of September 2025, there is still little scientific research into this phenomenon. What's the solution to AI psychosis? /g/ is especially afflicted by this.

>>107709529I'm not actually convinced chatbots are making people insane who weren't already so. I remember the numbers I think it was openAI published showed a percentage of people who seemed to qualify for "AI psychosis" induced chat behavior that pretty much tracked the amount of people who are shizo in the general population. And if you have hundreds of millions of people using your product, there's bound to be a lot of people that have pyschosis simply by law of large numbers.
