Apple blocks dev from all accounts after he tries to redeem bad gift card

>Apple has blocked a long-time developer from his Apple ID after he failed to redeem what support suggested was a dodgy $500 gift card, leaving him unable to work, cut off from personal files, and barred from what he calls his "core digital identity."

>This isn't just any developer, either: The unlucky Apple aficionado in this case is Dr. Paris Buttfield-Addison, a Tasmania-based computer scientist who co-founded an award-winning game development company and has written multiple books on developing for Objective-C, the Swift programming language, and iOS.

>"I have effectively been an evangelist for this company's technology for my entire professional life," Buttfield-Addison said in a blog post detailing his struggle with Apple's account system.

>According to Buttfield-Addison, his account was flagged as "closed in accordance with the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions" recently. The only thing he can link the issue to is his recent purchase and attempt to redeem a $500 Apple gift card to use to pay for his 6TB iCloud+ storage plan, which he said failed when he attempted to activate it.

>Buttfield-Addison contacted the retailer, an unnamed "major brick-and-mortar retailer," which reissued the code after suggesting it may have been compromised. Shortly after that, he was locked out of his account.

>The Apple developer said that he's been signed out of iMessage, can't access his iCloud account, is unable to access terabytes' worth of family photos stored on Apple servers, and has basically been blackballed from the Apple ecosystem.

>"My iPhone, iPad, Watch, and Macs cannot sync, update, or function properly," Buttfield-Addison said. "I have lost access to thousands of dollars in purchased software and media."

>>

killing flash was a good thing
he didnt kill the internet or human relationships, that was tim apple

steve was obsessed with closed ecosystem though because he was a control freak and genuinely wanted a seamless experience

tim apple is obsessed with it cause he is a corpocunt and enshittifies everything

the first move by tim cook was to find an excuse to fire scott forstall who is largely responsible for mac os x/ios and was hot tipped inside of apple for being steve's natural successor (with tim cook being the stopgap)

well OP the bad news is that SaaS is getting eaten alive by AI because now companies can make the SaaS tools internally and better tailored to their needs
the realistic news is that even before AI, making a SaaS was hard work, especially doing costumers support so not much changed in that regard

the good news is that AI is there for your use, and it can code you almost anything that would have required a team of people, or esoteric knowledge, or months of work for a sole dev. So in theory there should be some way to extract value from it

I recommend throwing shit at walls until something sticks

It really does tire me how everyone on this website assumes the weakest form of a persons ideas and attacks that.

Online "business" != real world business != "passive income." I suspect what you want is the mythical unicorn of setting up a reoccurring revenue stream and afterwards expecting to do fuck all to maintain it. Real world businesses mean less competition but require actual work to maintain it. Starting one will force you to work harder than a 9-5 with potentially more downside.

For "online businesses" you're dealing with a market open to billions of people. Competition every where. Good luck earning anything online outside of a regular job that happens to use computers in the process (which still isn't a business.)

He and the handmade dude are not wrong about software getting worse in some ways but they are so obviously wrong about the reasons.

They will go into fine detail about some very specific optimization technique or whatever but it does not fucking matter. Software is written by the lowest bidder (sirs) and nobody gives a shit anymore. The reason is not technical, it is economical.

if you've made local changes (i.e. modified the files in that repo) then you gotta backup those files, then
$ git checkout current-branch && git pull
and apply the difference between your local files and the newly pulled files manually
if you haven't, then the branch probably got restructured, in that case
$ git fetch && git branch -m current-branch old-branch && git branch current-branch origin/master && git checkout current-branch && git branch -d old-branch && git merge FETCH_HEAD && git checkout .

`git pull' is short for
$ git fetch && git merge

The idea that you cannot have absolute trust in any entity, while true, says nothing about the actual level of trust you can expect to have with any entity. It's not about whether I trust the government to do as they say, it's about who do I trust more with purging national security data without it leaking:
>a legit contractor with a tightly audited process, legal agreements and a proven track record
>some anonymous skiddie who just so happened to steal the data in the first place
As far as degrees of trust go, the latter is about as close to zero as it gets, topped maybe only by groups with openly radical religious or cult-like associations.

I just don't see the benefit in negative lengths and indexes. Even in languages that wrap around like using -1, its just syntaxctic sugar that resolves to a real positive integer anyway.
In regards to underflows I feel like the signedness isn't as much of a factor than code logic. If you write code that violates index bounds, it will violate index bounds regardless of the index data type.
