Alright /g/ents, I'm looking for the most long-lasting hard drives OVER 1TB.
I want to store a bunch of stuff and I want to know which hard drives will last for over a decade. They can be both internal or external. I'm in the EU so American pricing is kind of irrelevant to me.

hard drives are rated for power on hours
dont boot it often and dont leave it powered on for long
that is the most durable hard drive
>>

Just buy anything and use RAID. Either it fails in the first year or two or lasts for a decade.

this

RAID 10

then just hotswap the failed HDD for a fresh one. I've had two fail in 7 years.

>>106472968
>you at most have 10 years with those drives
Lies
At my work we track literally millions of drives. Even the earliest HGST Helium drives don't show any signs of leaking.
We would know as it was tracked that some technician decided to open HDD ESD bags with a knife and caused a few thousand drives to leak from literal gouges in the case. They were preemptively replaced before they even failed.
Don't abuse your drives and you won't have an issue.

I get "new thing bad" but just because your miserable doesn't mean your BS is acceptable.

So, it happened AGAIN. We can blame paper launches, we can blame scalpers, we can praise AMD's efforts but the truth is it's simply not enough. MSRP, steam survey figures, you name it, it all stinks.
Don't get me wrong, I still have full faith in Lisa Su and the lads, but MASSIVE restockings are desperately needed in September. Otherwise I'm not very optimistic about the RX 9070 GRE, or it outselling the RTX 50 Supers for that matter. Not shipping like this. What do you think, /pcbg/? #RadeIN or #RadeOUT?

V2. Did some more clean up this AM on Description and Intro: language and vocab needed some work and was tired of the NPCs behaving like complacent robots/dolls (which maybe was a design choice, but I didn't care for it.) It's 248 tokens now, 104 for intro.

Nice. I also made a version for my ST today. I did remove those general writing instructions though ("Avoid extensive environmental descriptions." etc.). That is all managed by my system prompt already. And I like to have some environmental descriptions and other fluff around the sex.

>Avoid extensive environmental descriptions
That was an odd one, but b/c the card repeats over and over about how "... this is just the way the world is now" the LLM follow by repeatedly added sentences to that effect as well.
There's two solutions for that.
> Tell it not to include environmentals / bandaid fix
or
> Don't repeat yourself 10X in the description / fix the root cause
The second option saves you more tokens.
TLDR if botwriter feels the need to add a sentence to manage LLM response, the first thing to do is see if something could be removed, instead.

Windows Defender is has been really good for a long time, and still tops MITRE scores. Malwarebytes is also fine, generally...

I'm not quite sure what the question is in here though. A lot of anything hands-on is just trial and error. The only you'll assure yourself it's gone is with a re-install.
>>
>>106473779
Thanks. What about a sketchy website? What of sites that are real but try to give you viruses? For example, there's a 4chan archive site one which, if you click anywhere (say the search bar within the archive), a tab will open up, and the click won't do the action you intend for it to (activating the search bar to let you type in it), then you get one of those indian trojan sites. Is there a way to safely navigate such a site? Is that just a matter of having some kind of anti-virus or firewall? Is it easy to understand how any of that works? One thing that bothers me is my understanding of computers really is just seeing them as "magic boxes", I don't think of them as such, but as far as I'm concerned, they may as well be. The many processes that go on therein I don't understand, nor do I have even a summarized understanding or... a systematic understanding I guess. Like if you think of how these things work as a tree, the trunk is the fundamental base of it all, and then the ends of the branches would be all of the things going on on the surface. My understanding is all the way at the ends of the branches. Maybe that sounds gay but it works. I don't know at which point I'll stop feeling I'm wandering a maze, and will feel I can understand it better and properly.
>>106473946
I guess, but like I said, I don't have a systematic understanding of it. I also don't want to mess up my computer somehow by accident, if that's possible. I'm not a technician.
>>

It's pretty hard for browsers to fully infect your PC. Best practice is to use a condom or some sort. Ad block and a plugin to stop scripts from running like uMatrix. Set everything to max, but doing so means ALL websites will break and just display text. If a website wants to run a video, well uMatrix is blocking that script from running. After that disable uMatrix on sites you feel safe on using, like YouTube for example, or your banking institution's website etc.
Then if you encounter a site that you can't use but don't fully trust slowly start enabling some scripts on uMatrix. If something suspicious starts happening then block that script again. It's trial and error.
Just learn those two plugins and then you'll be good.

And since you're asking about viruses and how computers work in the base level I would recommend you on going to school about it. Computers are complicated and not everyone has the time to fully research what each program or line in a piece of code does by themselves.

So yeah, get into the habit of using a search engine, use ad blockers and script blockers for browsing and go to school if you want to learn what COM+ Event System service is or whatever and why it's running on your PC. You're asking for someone to explain how computers work and no one has the time to do that.

Except they do, like Gex Deep Cover Gecko, first hub world, near the waterfall with the army level.
All Tomb Raider games, especially tomb raider 3 and 4.

You clearly never owned the physical thing.

even the nes and snes has lots of games which miss frames. it's not about the hardware, but the software. emulators often have reduced lag frames, so i do question if anon even used any of these consoles

Dude, i own atari 2600, and it also run buttery smooth, and by the time, drop frame isn’t even existed. Every hardware build before windows 98 also run full frame, with zero drop frames and buttery smooth. It either run in slow motion or they run normal speed, but never drop a single frame.

People mistake framedrops with slowdowns with frameskipping with stutters.
First console I noticed actual stutters on was the 360. Before that all I had was slowdowns. Today you have Zelda Echoes of Wisdom which, I don't know how there's people out there that can tolerate. We're talking about 30 to 60 back to 30 harsh framerate fluctuations. That's noticeable by just about fucking anyone. I have played a lot of SNES, genesis, PS1, N64 games with slowdowns. Not like this shit.
