Why do so many professionals who use Linux at work use a MacBook in their personal life?
9 replies omitted. Click here to view.
>>
MacBook air is the best portable computer this decade. MacOS is Unix and very solid and stable. Tons of my Linux workflows literally just work on it

For more serious work of course I have a Linux machine but apple really got good this decade
>>
>>108352665
I wish I could use linux at work. Fuckers are making me use windows so best I can do is WSL.
>>
>>108353876
Nice, but honestly, don't get the Mac Neovagina, from what I saw, it isn't worth it.
>>108353882
>Have you use a macbook before?
I never daily drove one, but I had to use Macs in the past + friends and family.
>I find Linux to be much better for software development.
I prefer Linux as well. I'm just saying that IF I'd switch, I'd probably go with a Mac. I'm just frustrated, that there aren't any good Linux ARM alternatives atm. I hope that the Qualcom situation gets better... I'd love to get a powerful Linux ARM Laptop. But it seems like a Macbook is the best deal (for now). No neovagina or air fryer tho.
>>
>>108353739
My friend uses Macs at work, and Windows at home. Doesn't rly like Windows, but he's a gamer, who also needs Adobe shit due to work. So Windows it is, ig.
>>
nobody does that because management software, if anything it's the opposite that tends to be a pattern
I would kill you and your entire bloodline for the opportunity to use Linux at work instead of Linux wrapped in shit, blood and AIDS aka WSL™

>literally who gives a fuck about performance it's not my desktop
>software support for a decade or more because it's an Apple product
Think this is the frist time Apple has made something that I actually want to buy and might actually be willing to pay MSRP for. I want a nice screen, a battery that isn't garbage, and an operating system that's not Windows. All I'll end up doing with it is watching Jellyfin, streaming games over Moonlight, and watching porn so honestly I don't see a much better option at the price point. Where's the catch bros, make me hate Apple again

With the same setup (24+72, worn down to 20+66), undervolted by 92 mV (core/cache), 56 (GPU) and 28 (uncore), I get 12-14 hours of browsing. Also
>is normal behavior
yes
>voltage curve drops quickly
yes
>controller skips a step
yes, but not for the reason that it vaguely suggests. The percentage that it reports while the voltage curve *isn't* steep is always an estimate, and the voltage dropping near the end of discharge is one of the things that grounds these estimates. Usually once the voltage drops below a certain threshold (in smarter controllers this might be adjusted by the discharge current), the reported percentage jumps from the previous estimate to a hardcoded 6% or 5%.

Fake Assassin from Fate/strange Fake? Did you just describe/reference her? I was trying out some characters from that series recently, I've tried a few variations of her "name", but it didn't seem to work. It recognises Lionheart (plus Gilgamesh and Enkidu, but those appeared in other works before), but it fails to get Hippolyta.

What are some cool addons to use your steam deck as a back up pc on the go? I'm hoping to maybe use teamviewer to phone back to my home pc. Are there any cool docks for the steamdeck with power pd, etc, etc. What do you guys use to use it as a pseudo laptop on the go?

this thread is made for me but there’s not much to say. I bring my steamdeck to class. use the dbrand case with the stand. keys to go 2 when i’m there. use the dock at home with a mx keyboard. other than the occasional comment on how weird it looks using a big switch looking thing, it’s kind of the perfect laptop replacement. sort of this weird tablet that runs arch linux with a 15 hour battery life I never deplete. on cold days it fits in my inner jacket pocket. I keep expecting to some find some problem or reason why it can’t be my only computer at home or in uni but it does literally everything plus, you know, it plays vidya. cheaper than an ipad or laptop too. that said, I think with the two keyboards I bought for it, and the dock, it may be pricier than some low tier ipads or laptops. I will say personally, there’s this one guy in class who takes notes on his macbook pro with an ipad pro and iphone 17 pro in little tablet stands to the left and right and I’m like, lol dude. maybe bringing my little valve made linux based computer with a shitty lcd screen that I got for 400 canadian isn’t that weird at all
>>
>>108353907
all i really use it for is to play rocket league against jeffrey epstein when im on my work layover and don't have access to desktop. sometimes i play skate or satisfactory as well. i wouldn't want to use it as a desktop.
>>
>>108354015
Do you dual boot? i'm thinking about either dual booting windows for my microsoft word stuff for class, or dual booting arch and just phoning home to my windows desktop. What's dual booting like on these devices?
>>
>>108354015
Or would it be better to just vmware a w11 image on the steamdeck? How do you think it would handle it? I just want to be able to game on the go since I have a lot of down time in my day, but also be able to use a non steamos limited os like arch or windows or phone home to my w11 desktop pc.
>>
>>108354154
>>108354174
I dualboot win 10 ltsc specifically to play two games. it’s nice to have. both keyboards and my monitor have software that obviously only work in windows and macos so I just hop on over to my windows partition when necessary. super easy, just ran the clover install script and it’s been perfect so far, casually waiting for it to break but nothing yet. but 95% of my time is in steamos. I take design classes too and need certain software for assignments but these actually run great on linux. use libreoffice for essays and such and note taking. I’m not going to give you my whole plebbit ass life story but I decided to use my steamdeck as my primary computer tablet laptop gaming rig hybrid thing because of circumstance and instead of going out and buying a new ipad mini or mid range laptop, I was like, wait, I already have the steamdeck. I’ll just use that and see how it goes. and it’s awesome. keep waiting for the special unforeseen reason why it can’t work but, why would it? it’s literally just a linux computer crammed inside a gameboy. I would say the only thing that I’d prefer an ipad for is reading ebooks. but even that is… fine? pleasant even? lower the lcd brightness, turn on some warmth in nightmode, and just tap through the pages with the bumpers. I dunno. I do think the future of computers are devices like the steamdeck. whereas apple is segmenting their usecase through different devices, you can sort of just do it all with this one linux based thing with a bunch of gaming based input.
