I’ve been running Linux Mint for over four years and was happy with it until the recent drama, especially the AI security scan fiasco. It really shook my trust in the maintainers.I started looking for alternatives, but after testing hundreds of distros, none of them met my expectations for stability and reliability. I began to accept that my system would just break from time to time until I found a thread recommending Windows Seven as a rock-solid alternative. After researching, it turns out this version is still surprisingly usable. It’s stable, reliable, and with extended updates plus a good firewall, security isn’t a major issue.Has anyone else tried this? How did it go for you? Personally, I haven’t run into a single problem so far.
>>107666334Genuine answer: performance & the fact that snaps have introduced bugs not seen in the native package (steam has a notoriously bad snap but the .deb is completely fine) and because of this the developers have often not provided any type of support for this because they're just packaged by canonical employees and not the actual software maintainers.

So apparently the mods consider tasteful nudes (no nipples, genitals, anus, pubes, fluids, sexual activities, sex toys, etc) of canonically 24-year-old characters with petite body types to be "loli/shota pornography" and a ban (and I waited the ban out to post this). This post is not complaining about the moderation. I understand what they don't want advertisers seeing. This post is simply a public service announcement. Do not post images matching the above description outside of /b/.

I have a really old laptop, Thinkpad T520 with a 2nd gen i5, and a shitty wifi connection of about 100mbps on my ISP side and probably less than half of that final speed on my laptop 40mbps per speedtest.netWhenever I try watching 720p or higher streams on Twitch, using Chrome, the video skips frames and lags every 5 seconds or so. Is there a way to know if it's slow internet speed or my ageing cpu with no dedicated modern hardware decoding?
>>107669094The cpu doesn't quite reach 100% when the stream is playing, even at full 1080p60 source quality, but it does reach 40%-80% usage. I don't have this issue on Youtube.

Anti-AI tantrumswhats up with these people? whats their problem?never saw this kinda bizare behavior before in my entire life
>>107668911>Prompting is authorshipAs far as copyright is concerned it is not, and this has been settled law for decades. If you give a monkey a camera and it takes a selfie, you didn't make it and no one owns the picture. If you personally develop and train a diffusion model and it generates an image, you didn't make it, and you only own the portion of the code you personally wrote (not generated) within the model. If you pay someone to create an image for you, you didn't make it, and they didn't sign a contract specifically giving you the copyright for that image you don't own it, they do.It has to be 100% human authored, and ownership is implicit on the specific individual who authored it unless specifically stated otherwise through legally binding documentation. It's very confusing why AI bros feel the need to say they made something that they didn't. It'd be so easy to shut down any anti-ai person by saying "Yeah, I didn't make it. So what?" and ai bros never do. They are compulsed to deluding themselves.
the ai market will crash sooner or later and a gozillion indians will kill themselves

I use QubesOS with detached boot partition on 2 duplicated USB drives with any data that rests on the SSD/HDDs being encrypted with LUKS2. Whonix gateway is proxied through a VPN qube to hide Tor IPs (can't hide communication patterns) without bridges since bridge IPs can be farmed. Sometimes Tor through I2P outproxy or vice-versa or with different anonymizing network overlays. Clients used for browsing are only opened in on-RAM ephemeral qubes with no access to permanent storage. Attack surface is quite minimum since no extra things added like USB mouse and no PV qubes (aside from sys-usb and sys-net) are used for launching HVM qubes with qemu stub domains unless very necessary and every other qube on the system gets shut down first to keep information leakage minimum. A veracrypt volume with hidden storage on a permanent qube for data storage and plausible deniability.what's your setup like?

Hello everyone, I have an old desktop PC sitting right there doing nothing. I'm trying to give it a reason to exist and evaluating the idea to install Windows 7 on it.So, can you use Windows 7 in these days? How much do you have to debloat it and uninstall things? And, more important, there's a way to not have it becoming a SECURITY NIGHTMARE?

Why do these people sperg out so hard over still using Windows 7?I'm using the server 2008R2 updates, but my XP machine does not get insta hacked either. The exploits are all local privilege escalation shit that does not matter at all for a home user. Don't run malware, it is that easy. Admin access does not matter anyway, dicking with that is old hat. So you trashed some system files that can be replaced in 1 hour? big whoop. The new thing is infostealers that take you login tokens (that have free access by your standard user), and you see updooted users getting trashed by those daily.
>>107654472It's even worse when open source devs cite Microsoft's end of support as their excuse for not supporting Windows 7.
>>107669045This is lame as shit. Win32 has done everything you need for many versions now.Recently things dropped it over GetTempPath2(). The only difference between GetTempPath() and GetTempPath2() is if you are running as SYSTEM, aka fucking nobody because that is one level above Admin that normal programs can't run as without hacks. Gotta use the latest API though, can't be seen using OLD shit.
