I hate the shitty threads you people make.
I want to share what has opened my eyes, for other novices like me, who are trying to leave Winslop 11.

This thread is supposed to put you on the right track to making your own decision,
after reading this thread the fog of Linux won't be there anymore,
you will know what you want and you will find the distro that is suitable for you.

> 1. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1b/Linux_Distribution_Timeline.svg
This old image includes 95% of all Linux distros in existence, study this.

Studying this image alone, is going to help you see through idiotic arguments like "mint is better" or "go with arch" or "go with pop_os" -- most of them have a parent OS.

> 2. Distro arguments are pointless. #1 choice that you must make is what family Linux do you want and pick.
If you studied image above, you will see there distinct few families of Linux, the relevant ones are: Debian, Fedora, Arch.

OpenSUSE is very good. You can work around the Nvidia issues if you learn some basics, mainly just learning how to pair kernel version with driver version.
That said on bare metal, you may want to choose something reliable that has an Nvidia ootb option. Even Arch has that now if you use Archinstall.
>>
>>108504060
Most laptops are using proprietary ACPI protocols. You would need to patch the kernel, but since Debian's kernel is very old in comparison to other distributions, this option is out off the table, since I don't want to patch and compile kernel from scratch myself
>>
>>108503889
>>108504060
>>108506306
Getting a modern kernel is as easy as swapping for Liquorix (or Xen depending on the distro, but I've found Liquorix more reliable).
And updated firmware is as easy as
`cd /tmp
git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git
cd linux-firmware/
sudo cp -va * /lib/firmware/`
and then
`sudo update-initramfs -u`

I also use CoreCtrl to manage my 9070XT, so with it I've also replaced my Mesa drivers with an almost up to date version with Ernstp's Mesa Almost-Stable repo;

There are worse ways to handle passwords. If you use a proper manager you can actually have your passwords backed up somewhere in case your phone battery explodes or you drop it in a storm drai.

Is this enough to play games from 6 years ago? Not interested in modern ones anyway,

No GPU = No Game
250GB = no storage, of that will be forced to OS to keep OS from slugging, and if you install games on the same SSD, it will mean you might freezes when games are loading and OS wants to do something in background trying to access the same SSD.

Dual storage is necessary in this case. One for game and one for OS.

Just make a file manager (like midnight commander and far manager). And if you are bored and you don't know what to add. Make a text editor that looks like Turbo C/C++/Pascal. Don't worry fags, I know Turbo was a IDE

You can't really cheap out on packaging them. If they're just put in one of those plastic bags there's a real possibility they'll stick to something during the postage process and rip themselves out of the bag.

I'm a sales guy at my company, and our tech team usually takes months to ship features.
So earlier this week I tried this little fucker here, and holy fuck I had the new feature my client has been asking for since months running in an hour.

I immediately showed the customer a demo, and with them being very satisfied asked my boss how the fuck this is possible and why we're paying tech guys so much money for not doing anything. Apparently several senior devs are going to have a "townhall" tomorrow, if you catch my drift. Meanwhile my bonus package for the month looks pretty good.

Fuck you arrogant """""engineer""""" shitheads, it's always been THIS fucking easy and you were just lazy and arrogant. Get ready to get out of your fat greasy autistic comfort zone, it's time to get a real job.

good, fuck IT jeets who thought that streamlining their own jobs to copy paste from gen ai would be good idea. 2 years ago they were like: learn ai and coding, everything will be done by ai, only coding and ai is safe. Now they are less noisy about that, wonder why. Guess not everyone is coding stuff for NASA.
