What are the disadvantages and advanges of tarballs? The general consensus?
I personally like them and wish more software would ship this way, its a bit inconvenient to manage it yourself but in distros like debian they fill an excellent gap, its good to self manage your browser too, for example, icecat & palemoon, both are available as tarballs.
>>
>>106977283
Shitty overused format. 99.99% of the time you could do the same job with zip/7z external attributes and not lose the ability to extract individual archive members.
>>
>>106977373
he's talking about loose file software distribution, not the tar format itself. don't just read the first line

Eric has failed us, he has literally one job, and that is to provide 25 puzzles, per year, on schedule. Now it's only a 12 day challenge, how can you even call that "advent" of code, which is supposed to count down to Christmas. I am outraged, and you should be too. What if Santa's elves just decided to stop making half the toys??? Ridiculous.

>Also, starting this year, there will be 12 days of puzzles each December.

>Why did the number of days per event change? It takes a ton of my free time every year to run Advent of Code, and building the puzzles accounts for the majority of that time. After keeping a consistent schedule for ten years(!), I needed a change. The puzzles still start on December 1st so that the day numbers make sense (Day 1 = Dec 1), and puzzles come out every day (ending mid-December).

Install Gentoo. Or whatever flavour of *nix is best for the job or most comfy for you. Jellyfin/Emby/Plex to replace Netflix, Nextcloud to replace Googlel, Ampache/Navidrome to replace Spotify, the list goes on. Look at the awesome self-hosted list and ask.

So to be clear, you're trying to use TFTP to serve an OpenWrt firmware image to your MikroTik hEX S, per these instructions?
https://openwrt.org/toh/mikrotik/rb760igs
https://openwrt.org/toh/mikrotik/common

I'd try the script they have here using dnsmasq; it should handle both TFTP and BOOTP/DHCP:
https://openwrt.org/toh/mikrotik/common#netboot_of_openwrt_uses_dhcpbootptftp
>>
>>106976849
>JUST LEARN ANOTHER COMPLETELY OBSCURE SCRIPTING LANGUAGE BRO BECAUSE WE HATE UNIX

>>106977094
Yes, but I first failed to downgrade from shipped 7.18 to 6-whatever (too recent board?) so that might also affect things. Then I updated to 7.20 which should support booting other OS's than RouterOS. Though missed that script, gonna try it later in a separate network and full packet capture.

Mikrotik also added so-called device-mode lately, I guess the reset button trick shoudn't do anything in default "home" mode.
