I'm OOTL since I don't keep up with crapple's products, but why did they start putting out cheap products? First they made a $600 Mac Mini a few years ago, and now there's a MacBook that runs off an iPhone processor for about the same price. Apple worked so hard to establish themselves as a luxury fashion brand so that they can sell overpriced crap, why are they suddenly pivoting to pandering to people that aren't pretending to look rich?

apple has always been big in education. remember all those people discussing the education discount on the neo for $100 off? remember the eMac? chromebooks were a setback, but google has done an awful job developing the OS and corralling hardware manufacturers.
>>
The average consumer browses facebook, streams slops and pays their bills from their computer. A phone chip is more than capable of doing that. Coming out with an entry level device allows them to sell their devices to third worlders and poor people who want in on the Apple brand.

The market of first world consumers is maybe a billion people. There's 8 billion people on earth.
>>
>>108505185
Money.
With hardware prices being extremely unstable nowadays, a lot of PC producers started ignoring the low-budget niche and focused more on corporate and lol AI tech. Apple just decided to use this opportunity to seize that part of the market and bind new consumers to their ecosystem.
>>
>>108507730
>because thirdies would love the opportunity to get an Apple thing for cheap
Thirdies can't afford a new PC, much less a $600 MacBook.
If you think a $600 MacBook is an evil to the brand then consider it a necessary evil.
Price points ultimately matter for education and parents because kids can't be trusted with $1k+ devices.
ChromeOS and Macbooks face the same problem of kids getting imprinted on Windows and it starts at school more often than not.
This helps Apple build the brand by introducing MacBooks earlier
>>
>>108505185
apple had bulk contract for couple of years so they can build for cheap(er)

Billions of people worldwide agreed to commit suicide thinking they are going to personally experience a virtual world.

Horrifying.

Would you upload?
>>
>>108508089
No, think how amazing everything would be with all those retards gone. A virtual world is fake and gay too. Its like porn: the real thing is better. It wouldnt be you either, which is a ship of theseus question to a degree but my brain and soul is me, if you kill that even if a computer could replicate me.perfectly, that wouldnt be me. It would be like an AI version of me.

To answer your question, it doesn't contain all the software, just the WM/DE and options/customization tools. I don't know everything that's installed by default, but two that I use religiously and consider necessary are TimeShift, which is available on Arch, and Xed, which isn't officially available but it's a fork of Gedit.

machine learning has been used for decades now, whenever you hear about "AI" doing something nowadays, they mean this, very few of these "breakthroughs" involve LLMs deeper than for cleanup and organization

I'm a sales guy at my company, and our tech team usually takes months to ship features.
So earlier this week I tried this little fucker here, and holy fuck I had the new feature my client has been asking for since months running in an hour.

I immediately showed the customer a demo, and with them being very satisfied asked my boss how the fuck this is possible and why we're paying tech guys so much money for not doing anything. Apparently several senior devs are going to have a "townhall" tomorrow, if you catch my drift. Meanwhile my bonus package for the month looks pretty good.

Fuck you arrogant """""engineer""""" shitheads, it's always been THIS fucking easy and you were just lazy and arrogant. Get ready to get out of your fat greasy autistic comfort zone, it's time to get a real job.

This is likely just bad programming.

Im hoping that what happened is fine... your hardware is most likely fine. If your GPU was broken it would not cause your PC to go to the BIOS your GPU is fine and same with your RAM... most likely your motherboard COULD be suspect for actual damage.

I hope everything gets better man

Freedom to fork things that work instead of improving them.
Freedom to rewrite things that work instead of improving them.
Freedom to have things not working because the developers have to account for a billion different configurations.
Freedom to incorrectly configure your machine and cause obscure cryptic issues that seem unrelated and impossible for other people to replicate without taking the same steps.
Freedom to have inferior software because the developers can't assert the user environment.
Basically, freedom to fuck it up in every step of the way.

MacOS "just works" because they control the hardware and the software.
Windows "just works" because the user has no control over the entire OS stack.
Linux "works in your machine" because you happened to have a similar environment as a specific developer.

After using Linux for so long I treat so many things as minor inconveniences (like different display/audio protocols supporting different features, how enabling the compositor fucks specific games, and so on) that would never happen on any other OS.

I just don't feel like Linux will ever go anywhere as long as things keep fracturing whenever they reach past a certain size. Having a BDFL in your project seems to work well but I don't know if that's a good solution, it won't stop people from forking your shit instead of contributing to a single effort.
