So just got into linux and decided to install debian after reviewing the other stable newbfriendly distros (ubuntu, mint, fedora, etc). Decided not to mess with the corporate leaning ones and settled on debian, but just found out theyre also hopping on the popular kill-all-straight-white-goys bandwagon. Should i be concerned and prepare to switch to something else, or is it just a nothingburger and debian should still be trusted? If the former, what distro should i consider instead? From what i read it seems like void linux ticks all the boxes(stable, non-corpo, non-political) besides the newbfriendly part.

if you're a windows 10 refugee, devuan should be fine. if you're new and wanna learn how linux works though i'd recommend against it. you'll end up stagnating in skill because you aren't being challenged regularly / at all
"stability" doesn't just come from stable packages, it comes from knowing the ins and outs of your system and how to fix it if things go wrong. if you stick with just debian / devuan, fedora, uboongu, arch, etc you limit your ability to adapt if your chosen distro dies, which is a real possibility that you can seem to sense. it exists no matter which one you choose, corpo backing or not
unironically install arch / gentoo. otherwise devuan is fine, just stop thinking and pick a distro

Staff selling 'invites' that get any buyer banned would be funny but i doubt that is what actually happened.

Invite sellers tend to sell multiple invites trying to milk as much money as possible from it before they get banned (together with a whole tree) or they don't even have invited to provide to begin with.

Yes. At the same time, you don't choose the language you're going to use in a vacuum. I don't like C++'s design, but I still use it when I want to make a Qt program or use some obscure algorithm library.

Did anyone manage to install burp suite on guix? I really want to make the switch from nixos, but If I can’t get burp suite to run there’s no point at all.

Other than that I use some cli tools, a few browsers and emacs so I should be good to go. Thinking about also switching my hyprland setup to EXWM lol, but that’s probably retarded.
>>
>>106863001
The simplest way is to just put `(load "/path/to/my-package.scm")' near the top of your config.scm.
You'll probably want to copy /etc/config.scm into your home so you can edit it as your user, and then just do `sudo guix system reconfigure /home/<you>/path/to/config.scm'.

The proper way is to create a guile module with your package definitions in it, and then just import your module like any other with a
(use-modules (my-module)
...)

at the top.
See the guile manual on modules.
This would also make it easy to turn your package definitions into your own guix channel later (but that's more advanced and not necessary).

You also might want to setup guix home, so you don't install everything system wide with root privileges.
