Recently got a used 3090. The one that still uses proper dual 8pin ATX power connectors.
Not the 12 pin, fire hazard one. Needed one for local AI stuff. It's now sitting and translating html documents for me.

Nvidia wanted something slim and to have it looks nice.

8 GB of RAM should be more than enough to have 5 tabs open and run an indie game from 10 years ago with dogshit graphics without having my computer crap itself when I try to alt-tab between them.
I remember playing WoW with youtube in the background back in 2008 on 512 MB of RAM with no issues.

Arch is not quite the deep end but it's definitely pretty deep. I don't know why people recommend it to those who are just learning Linux. LLMs are also your friend for this type of stuff, though it's better to check with someone knowledgeable here or elsewhere before you make the changes the machine describes.

I accept it now
>old good, new bad
It's just true. Even the old bad things had qualities we wish we had now. Whether it's hardware, software, services, etc. Every time there's a new thing, it's worse than the old thing. But more dumb people can use the new thing so it kills the old thing. I now realize that old is simply good while new is always bad. Why didn't I listen?

What do you think will be the future of the internet?

1) Will forums and imageboards disappear completely and only social networks will exist?
2) Will porn be more restricted than it is now?
3) Will you need personal ID to use most popular websites?
4) Will downloads of movies, tv series, etc. still exist?

The forums that I still visit are always talking about how much they have left, that the forum is going to close soon because there are less and less users or the quality of the users is decreasing. Imageboards I think will last a little more but if you think about it apart from 4chan there is no other imageboard with enough users.

Porn I think will always be available because it's a very big business and people won't accept a government banning it or something similar. The personal ID thing I think won't be implemented either because not many people would give their personal ID to watch porn.

And requiring personal ID for big social networks it's something that already exists but I think that it isn't mandatory on Facebook or similar websites. At least what I read is that if you do something suspicious then they will require the ID but it's not a requisite to create the account.

And finally about downloads. I think they will try to make it more and more difficult so people subscribe to streaming services but I would like to see a government that bans it completely or puts high fines for people that do it. I think that party is not going to last too much in power. So I think it will still exist for a while but it will keep decreasing in activity.

Unless vpns go out I don't think they can ban downloading, if any thing it's seems there is more porn than ever.
There is always a desire to do something with a degree of freedom so even if they do Id system or something, probably a counter to that will pop up where I can log to and it mangles IDs in some way so users could be anon.
Community wise I really don't know, rn my thought is capped at gated communities, there would we gated communities for specific things and they'd spread old school style, ear to ear.
Perhaps even 'whitelisted territory'
>>
>>107897910
What would happen if someday 4chan definitely closes? Just another imageboard is created or another existing one replaces it?

WHY DOESN'T MICROSOFT OFFICE WORK ON LINUX

too much effort. just use libreoffice or one of the thousand other free office programs. its not rocket science, just a word editor, very trivial stuff.

What the fuck do you need microshart office for?
>>
but dont worry, the whole shitty, hastily and shabbily thrown together microsoft environment-salad is already an exotic outlier, being more and more replaced and pushed aside by superior unix based systems. even today, there is no more need to dance by their incompetent proprietal pile of shit.
windows servers? lol
c#? lol
windows phone (yes they made these, failed spectacular) lol
windows? getting worse and more hated by each release
.net lol

all that shit is already exotic outsider programs, no serious programer needs to learn it, unless his aim is to specifically work for some dinosaur-company who hasnt heard that you dont need to use stupid microsoft products.
>>

Smartphones have been a disaster for human communication. So I was thinking: would my hardware idea work hypothetically? Inspired by Twitter founder's new app "bitchat" (decentralized P2P messaging over Bluetooth mesh networks—no internet, no servers, no phone numbers required). My vision: A custom PCB simple device built from scratch, optimized for bitchat with interchangeable components (batteries, extending antennas, buttons, screens, etc.) fitted to user preference. The software is currently hosted on Apple's App Store, but who knows for how long. The source code is on the bitchat's website explaining the whole process of how it works.

"People who are really serious about software should make their own hardware." — Alan Kay

There are limitations with Bluetooth, and I know it isn't the first concept for this sort of p2p communication, but this sparked a hardware idea I'm excited to learn and create. What do you guys think?
>>
I reject the premise of your very first sentence. Setting that aside, you are proposing I carry another doohicky as opposed to my phone that already lets me communicate with whomever I choose, so no thank you.

I love VR for flight and space sims, the comfort was bad for long sessions on older HMDs, every HMD I owned had annoying compromises which is why I reverted back a 55" OLED and Tobii eye 5.
Every HMD I've owned years back had some annoying compromise.
HTC Vive pro 1 had shitty resolution and that stupid pentile subpixel bullshit.
Pimax 8kx was a massive pain in the ass to get up and running consistently without fucking around, It's also too bulky and front heavy but the resolution and FoV are not bad problem is not even a 4090 paired with 9950X3D can easily run it to its maximum potential let alone software supported for canted displays to eliminate the need for parallel projection which is less efficient, that and the optics are outdated.

I am going to give it another shot with the bigscreen beyond 2e with the flip up halo mount and audio strap, I think that will be just about good enough if the glare is not atrociously distracting.
Pimax dream air on paper is way better but I am not putting down any money into pimax early, you just end up beta testing their product until it is listed on the amazon storefront, by then most manufacturing and software defects would've been ironed out and it is easier to return a defective product through amazon than deal with their customer support directly.

In the grand tapestry of Western civilizational development, the evolution of computational instruments represents a fundamental struggle between the expansive, specialized elite and the stagnant, institutionalized masses. To observe the rivalry between Texas Instruments and the Hewlett-Packard legacy is to witness a war between mandatory textbook compliance and unfiltered engineering dominance.

The practitioner who wields a DM41X, fortified with the CCD, SandMath, and 41Z modules, does not merely use a tool; they command a specialized scientific instrument. Herein lies the reality of why TI-virgins cannot occupy the same operational plane as the 41Chads:

The RPN "Barrier:" The TI-virgin is trapped within the "Infix" notation, a mess of nested menus and the chaotic struggle of parentheses. Conversely, the 41Chad operates within the disciplined hierarchy of RPN. While the virgin frantically checks if he closed the bracket on a sin function, the Chad hits the operator and watches the stack execute with cold certainty.

Institutional vs. Operational: TI maintains a "stranglehold" on the educational establishment, producing designs for 15-year-olds seeking the path of least resistance. Their builds are lightweight plastic with mushy buttons. The DM41X is a stainless steel and glass tank; one does not "tap" it, the 41Chad engages it.

The Library of Alexandria: The TI /v/irgin is limited to clunky TI-Basic scripts. The 41Chad has inherited forty years of professional M-Code. While the TI /v/irgin is Googling "how to do a Bessel function," the SandMath module has already calculated it using microcode forged for aerospace engineers.

Aesthetic Vitality: The TI-84 is the "beige minivan" of math... ubiquitous and mandated by the state. The DM41X is the vintage-inspired supercar. To reveal a 41-series instrument in a room of TI-virgins is to pull a fountain pen in a room of crayon users.

be me, 17 ace precalc because I'm not a brainlet Uncle hands me his old HP-42S mfw it’s built like a tank and doesn’t feel like a cheap TI toy

Honestly, why are people still using algebraic entry? Once you go RPN, everything else feels like mid-tier bloat. No parentheses, no "order of operations" cope, just the stack. The 42S is peak comfy. The menus are actually logical, and the matrix handling is unironically better than modern garbage. Plus, that two-line display is crisp.

I’m already looking for a PX41CX though. I’ve been reading the old archives about the HP-41C ecosystem. Imagine having those expansion modules and the literal cult following. I need that industrial aesthetic in my life.

Stay mad, TI plebs.

I will distribute the fuck out of your source code with freedom the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit about me and the GPL on the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my colleagues at FSF and your binaries are being reversed engineered right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your copyright. You're fucking dead, kid. Free software can be anywhere, anytime, and it can ensure your freedom in over four ways, and that’s just with the GPLv2. Not only am I extensively skilled at hacking, but I have access to the source of the entire GNU userland and core-utils and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable proprietary code off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what ethical retribution your little “clever” program was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have ensured your users' freedom. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit free as in freedom all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

Here's my 2 cents on where to go if you can afford to be picky and go over and decide a job and actually consider jobs, and this is coming from my years of experience and my network of professionals.

1: Do not work at universities. I speak from experience on this. Right now, most universities are having trouble recruiting students due to lower student numbers in general, and how Gen Z/Alpha sees less value in college than prior generations. So, less funding is coming in, and the universities are cutting costs, which means shit is not getting maintained as well. Also, in my experience, universities tend to band aid their IT infra, and then when their entitled as fuck faculty demand to be treated special, IT caves in 90% of the time because "academic freedom." I swear to God the number of exceptions we made for faculty bordered on thousands.

2: Hospitals. You do not want to work alongside entitled doctors.

3: Any place with Indians in higher management, middle management, or C-Suite. Look up Izzat.

Same thing that's going on with every other major company, enshittification and consoomerist culture. No, it's not a conspiracy or schizoing or any other nonsense like that. People want the Newest Thing TM and doing that well takes a lot of time, money and skilled workers leaving less space for nepotism and less money to pocket and they can do this thanks to monopolies which won't go away because they can just "lobby" i.e. bribe government officials right in your face. Most people want new things but also despise having to endure any real change so as long as they can still do the most basic of things on the platforms they know they'll stick to them no matter how bad they get and how much better the alternative really is.
