Using old and insecure proprietary firmware baked into your hardware components doesn't make you any more free than loading newer firmware into those components through your OS.

Its just a stallman cope so he can pretend the software doesn't exist so he doesn't look like a giant hypocrite when using any computer (which he is).

Stable, rolling release, binary-based. Pick two, then install Arch, Debian, or Gentoo.

I hate the metal case (don't even get me started on mac os). It's either too cold or too electrified when the cable is plugged in. You're basically being constantly electrocuted when this thing is plugged in

Would consider them high end office mice.

Every mouse I have ever used has felt the exact same so idk why people act like they make a huge difference.

I guess the special autistic ones with all the extra buttons and pads may be different but those don’t even seem to be popular anymore

Why do you need 24GB of VRAM? What will you do with it that 16GB can't? Most people don't need more than 12 and you NEET highschool dropout hobbyists can get by just fine with 8GB for your projects and old games.

x : int : 42

would be valid in Odin to declare a constant int
x :: 42

would declare the same const, inferring it as an int
x := 42

would instead bind 42 to variable x, again inferring the type
Similarly
let x : int = 42;;

would be a valid binding in OCaml
etc.

Can only imagine lora makers are now focused on zimage and ltx2. Now with ostris releasing ltx2 support for ai tookit https://xcancel.com/ostrisai/status/2011065036387881410 we could probably expect less focus on wan. Saw this happening a mile away. Unless alibaba releases 2.5/2.6 (which they wont apparently because its too many model parameters according to anime man https://xcancel.com/bdsqlsz/status/2009869345833529395) then wan will join animatediff, mochi, framepack and hunyuan in irrelevance, sadly.

Other than for storing videos and photos taken with your phone, is there a reason to even need more than 256GB on a phone? People with more than 256GB, what do you use your extra capacity for not including the videos and photos you take with it?

Pic related.
I also use my phone as a dashcam in my 911 so thats like 30GB of videos.

I think it's better to have more space available for more efficient wear leveling of the flash memory.
because some apps are really hammering the cache storage, especially video streaming

SPBP. New Micro SD Express cards would be so good for phones, but then they couldn't charge you for bigger storage models, or get access to your data you put on the cloud

#define __NR_mmap                9

this is probably my favorite syscall of all time. we could spend weeks discussing this alone. it is extremely powerful, versatile, and widely used. not to mention, it's one of the (somewhat) rare six argument syscalls. some potential points of discussion:
> the addr argument, and its use without flags, with MAP_FIXED, and with MAP_FIXED_NOREPLACE
> file-backed vs anonymous mappings
> the concept of pages, page sizing, and alignment
> guard pages and PROT_NONE
> the actual meaning of SIGSEGV, and how there's more to segfaults than simply process crashes
> core dumps and stack traces
> other related signals, such as SIGBUS
> MAP_GROWSDOWN and the stack
> the use of mmap (as opposed to brk) for allocation via the *alloc family
> manual memory management vs an allocation scheme

when it comes to performance read can be a lot if you don't need to read a whole file e.g. find some string in a file
otherwise memory mapped files are the way to go most of the time since its also easier to make them read-only or tell kernel how you want to use the file
>>
>>107845169
malloc is turbo fucking dogshit and top 3 cause of issue in C programs
and malloc doesn't let you a lot of the things that are possible with memory (prefault, make it read-only etc.)
>>
>>107845826
Multics did have a high-level stream-based I/O interface that could also abstract over files and AIUI virtual memory was so difficult on the early Unix hardware that they didn't have it until Bill Joy brought over some BSD tapes. It makes sense that they went with streams as a primitive even without the worse is better boogeyman.
>>
>>107848169
i mean, if you're having issues with malloc, you're probably going to have issues with mmap, too
>>
>retard user unplugs usb stick on which your mmaped file is
>your program crashes because of some shitty pajeet tier troonix signal slop
>the only fix is to disable signals and have Linux return 0's
file backed mmap is garbage

this guy is pretty similar to mmap in a lot of ways, with the obvious difference being that mprotect only lets you change the protections of mappings which already exist.
since we didn't talk about SIGSEGV much in the last thread, perhaps that could be the focus of this one?
