Is C still wortlh learning nowadays?I'm studying CS but my uni's program only teaches you Python, Java and C++ so i figured I'd try to start learning C on my own over the winter break.I already have a decent grasp on Python and Java and have always heard all the real enlightened big brain neProidians learn C to understand how a computer works beter since it's "close to the metal" unlike Python and Java but even starting out with Learn C the Hard Way, Zed Shaw says that C is a fundamentally flawed language and has many errors that later languages fixed into non-issues.Should I keep going
>>107702118Yes, you should learn C because it’s very close to how a computer works. The mistakes C made are well known: null pointers and null terminated strings, but its good to get you familiar with it.
>>107702144Also other issues include arrays with no bounds checking and lack of automatically cleaning up garbage when initialising variables.
>>107702118Of course you should anon! C is a chad language. Knowing C would really set you apart from all of the Rust Trannies

why is it considered moronic for game devs to put game saves in AppData? Sure, the 'Saved Games' folder makes the most sense and should be used when possible, but at least using AppData doesn't fill your Documents folder with a bunch of crap that you will rarely touch and that wouldn't be considered to be 'documents' by the layman anyways.in general, doesn't it make sense for developers to 1. stick program files into 'Program Files' and user related application data into 'AppData'?
>>107701855I like when shit like user data and saves etc. are just stored within the exe's folder directly.
>>107702135agreed. Maybe portable applications are the very best solution.

remember AA batteries? AAA batteries? rechargeable AA batteries?we already had standardized batteries and they took it from us. There is no reason that we can't have standardized lithium ion batteries in all rechargeable consumer electronics. We don't need custom batteries for vape pens.imagine how much easier the logistics for recycling batteries would become.it's the same thing as car parts no longer being standardized.
>>10770216218650s were SO FUCKING CLOSE to being the new standard battery, but they're too big for normiesat least being 3.7v is largely standard, but that's probably just chemistry btfoing the PROTESTANTS trying to make everything proprietary

Should I buy an RTX 5070 or an RTX 5070 TI? One is The RTX 5070 is a 750 plus tax in my country, while the 5070 TI is 1100 dollars (plus tax). I read just now that NVidia is going to raise their prices and I get the feeling that if I buy the 5070, I'll end up needing to buy the 5070 TI in 2026 which at that point - it might be way too fucking expensive. On the other hand, the thought of buying a GPU for one grand right now feels extremely painful. That's 1/4th of my monthly paycheck.
>>107701707That would be prioritizing the novelty effect. Financially this is a sub-optimal path.
>>107701763Prioritizing the novelty effect is considered a sub-optimal path for utilitarian value but it is a powerful driver of hedonic (pleasure-based) satisfaction. In psychology, this is defined by the difference between long-term satisfaction and the immediate urge to engage with something new.Novelty primarily evokes interest, but not necessarily long-term liking.Observed individuals prefer an identical product simply because it is labeled "new". Long-term satisfaction is built through familiarity and consistent utility. In general, novelty-driven satisfaction is short-lived (hedonic adaptation), consumers often feel the need to keep buying new items to maintain that same level of "interest," effectively an inefficient path to happiness.Experts recommend setting limits on upgrades to every 10-20 years to prevent "lifestyle inflation" where spending spirals without increasing actual well-being.For "hedonic products," any form of novelty (product or experiential) enhances curiosity and exploratory behavior.Frequent small upgrades provide multiple "honeymoon phases," but research suggests that the most impactful long-term satisfaction comes from aligning spending with long-term values rather than recurring novelty.

anyone else's laptop not locked down by organization? we were given money to get laptop for office work and it's not under office domain. so I have been solo mining on it for the last 2 weeks. might even take out 16gb ram out of it (has 32) once it's time to return it.

>>107686179This. Pics come and go but LLM generated trash will stay with us for a long time. Hallucinated bullshit gets into scientific papers and legal documents. All of that while LLM owners can keep all that private data and use it to extract more value.

>>107701756It’s just few anons who post a lot there like every general ever. They should just make their own discord server or something. Since you need significantly less time to gen something as opposed to filming or drawing you get more content produced by fewer people. Spotify reportedly has only half of new songs AI generated, which is tiny amount considering that you can with free Suno subscription produce a song every hour and with subscription every minute and just post it there. If equal amount of people were making AI stuff as non-AI stuff then the AI generated content would be 99+% of new content uploaded.

>>107701973>>107702000the dioko's treble is all over the place as you can clearly see here, huge variations like this are typically inherent implementation characteristics which cause issues elsewhere in the FR when EQ'd out, like trying to EQ out bass phasing in a room. Why aren't you downloading all the software/tools for anything you could ever want to do offline on your OS since 2010? Download sites for obscure tools and utilities go down every year, accelerated since the last 5. Software support cycles are the fire in which we burn.
