>>108534005No one cares except autists, and their opinions are literally invalid. Just use the stubs.
Back in the day people used to write applications in Assembly, nowadays you can't do that, because Windows breaks the ABI five times during one single release cycle. And you justify it with:>haha, because it makes you mad :))and>its optimizing, changing a code from 0x7d to 0x7c makes it faster! What's next? Will it only be possible to write applications in Javascript in the future and you will say:>yeah, but the Javascript ABI doesn't change :^), so it doesn't matter that you can't write native applications
>>108533858>>108533888It doesn't affect any programs because they're not fundamental ABIs. ABIs are for applications. Those are internal and shouldn't be used by applications.
>>108533996>Give me ONE reason why it shouldn't be possible to write an application in Assembly and not have it randomly break between updates. You use DLLs and they don't randomly break. Win32 assembly programs can run on Windows 95 to 11 without breaking anything.
What does COSMIC do different that Cinnamon and KDE? It looks different and that's sort of it? I know they created COSMIC to get away from GNOME but it's legit the same. Hell, I'd even argue that GNOME is more unique because of the overview button. The only thing that sets COSMIC apart from the rest is probably search Google from the desktop feature.
>>108531987> search Google from the desktop featureWow, features from windows. Does it also reply with irrelevant stuff and does not search local file system?
>>108532666It's literally all of the gay tranny shit I don't want in windows put into one place.
>>108531987You can shit on Cosmic for being unrefined or being too GNOMEy, but it's the only modern DE that doesn't have any hard dependencies on BasedstemD. For that reason alone, I hope it does well. Also, Cosmic isn't unique in being able to do online searches from the desktop. Cinnamon can do that as well.
>>108532737only GNOME has hard dependencies on systemd.
>>108532425GNOME is rapidly losing relevance and it's good that COSMIC has emerged to move into a secondary spot. It's modern, written in a new era. It should deliver innovations and interesting features soon enough. I use Plasma (arch btw)

I've started to realize that "security" and "obsolescence" meaning essentially nothing in modern computing. In fact, they only apply to the mainstream general consumer slaves. Meanwhile the megacorporations with infinite money get to have "emergency" updates and "extended legacy support" until the sun explodes. The most critical infrastructure still runs on XP and 7 because there's literally nothing but problems that could arise from trying to modernize that stuff. Boeing airliners still use 386 processors for fuck's sake. And there's nothing wrong with that, it's actually a good thing. But for some reason... John the 60yo boomer absolutely *needs* Copilot and Windows 11 to work with old Excel files. It's all so tiresome.

I may be late to the party on this but my alphoomer nephew just showed me a locked thread of the Scratch Director of Technology losing his cool at 10 year olds and and being moderated by his own moderation team due to his "impolite" remarks while arguing over TOS changes that trains AI on user projects and adds an AI assistant. I guess not all gen alphababies got oneshotted by LLMs. Where's his PR guy to tell him a grown man throwing redditisms like "ad hominem" and "false narrative" at users he acknowledges in the same thread are statistically 80% under the age of 12 comes across incredibly retarded and tactless?
>>108533026The kids got mad that the ToS update meant Scratch can use their stuff to train AI but you can't use their stuff to train AI They said take out all AI stuff they don't want any AI at all.
