Interesting choice, music industry is a lot more into the IP grifter business than books industry is.

I was given a dell chromebook for free, decided to see if it could make a decent netbook style PC for basic tasks.Especially since the keyboard is rather nice for a chicklet style.
Boy was I fucking wrong.
tl;dr
>it is insane to demand an always on internet connection on a portable device
>it is insane to limit an otherwise fully functioning computer to 16 gigs of eMMC non upgradable in any way storage
>they made an entire computer specifically to be chucked in a landfill
First off chromeOS is fucking unusable dogshit.
On what fucking planet do you have a wifi connection 24/7?
You can't even setup the OS without internet.
Why? This is a device with a battery.
They really couldn't consider someone using this thing in a remote place with no internet?
Thankfully on this model you can coreboot it pretty easily by just unplugging the battery which disables write protection on the mobo
The biggest issue is storage
4gigs of ram is painful but usable on linux so its fine that its soldered i guess
But why the FUCK is there a SINGLE STORAGE OPTION and its only 16 fucking gigs of dogshit eMMC storage???

it's actually really nice if you have linux running in the embedded system and you can compile program there.
With rust you will never have that and having rust in the yocto system makes you unable to build the system on many machines because of the RAM requirements.
But yeah of course microcontrollers won't have have compiler.

The *only* thing it's "world class" on is jacked up prices.
Quality is regular proven to be substandard. Speed of service is only a thing because generally folk cant' affford it enough for queues to form.

> while "Free Healthcare" countries pay out the ass with their taxes.
My NHS is funded via "National Insurance". On a £500 pay packet, that's less than a tenner. Much less. You could possibly call some "stealth tax" on things like tobocco, and alcohol, which are also diverted towards - but as these things tend to cause higher usage, it's kinda acceptable. IMHO.

If you're white British the NHS is no longer for you. It hasn't been for a long time.
>is funded via "National Insurance". On a £500 pay packet, that's less than a tenner
National insurance doesn't cover the NHS. It's a literal drop in a bucket. NHS spending is now almost 15% of gdp and rising rapidly, yet quality of care is collapsing. I don't know anyone who uses the NHS anymore, it's impossible to use unless you're unemployed or have no responsibilities. Everyone I know uses private healthcare.

Plus he was wrong about lava lamps.
Salt rusts the coil, resulting in brown rust spots in the wax.
Salt also degrades the wax over time, although there isn't a clear explanation why.
Propylene glycol was the trve choice, albeit less accessible.

All the gayI shit is retarded. I find deepseek to work the best (if you disable thinking mode) compared to any other non-thinking models. Otherwise, of currently available models, o3 is the best thinking model by far. Gemini-3 is a total joke and even according to the google reps we do business with, they can't get it to work as well as 2.0-flash on our internal benchmarks. "They're working on it". Strange given they get almost 2x the performance of anything else according to public benchmarks. Hmmm....!?!?!?
Gpt-5.1 is worse than 5.0 which is about 10x worse than 4o which is about on par with 4.1 (slightly better).
Sonnet-4.5 is about on par with 4.1 (all compared in non-thinking mode).
5.1 thinking is disastrous, as is 5.0. But they can do OK in non-thinking modes.

Whether to use thinking or not is too specific to the exact thing you are trying to do, so you need to try both and see. The autoswitching in chatgpt is retarded for this reason.

Deepseek is ludicrously bad at web searches, but GPT models (including 5.1 and 5.0) are quite good at it. Notably, deepseek routinely leaks what could be confidential information into search results because of the poor choice of queries, and I've never seen it make a query that makes sense. Gpt models, on the other hand, tend to be surprisingly clever with how they phrase internet search queries.

For coding, I find that deepseek is the best at one-shot work, followed by 4o. o3 is best at multi-step/more vague objectives. I haven't tried anthropic models beyond sonnet-4.5 because the bigger models are far too expensive to justify even benchmarking them.

At any rate, not a single model or system works even remotely decently for programming to this day. If you think otherwise, your name is Ranjeet Poosheet.
>>
>>107616312
We have had this capability for over 20 years. The problem is that the second gpt-3.5 became available, there was a gold rush and all deep learning/AI research got immediately starved of funds, anyone who knew anything about dialogue system was told their skills are obsolete, and all "AI experts" became people with 0 "AI" background but some webshitter experience so they could call to openai API and call it a day.
So all the tools we built for dialogue systems, though they still apply 1:1 today, for things like memory, context management, dialogue topic context understanding, logic constraints, etc. are stuck in places those clowns can't reach and thus they reinvent the wheel, except because they're all turd worlders their wheels are always square and made to fit into triangle holes.

By the end of 2026, there will be ~5,400 data centers being built or fully operational.

Each data center consumes as much energy as ~1,000,000 US households.

That would mean AI data centers will consume as much energy as nearly 1,000,000,000+ people, considering each household = 2-3 people.

Cost of electricity and hydro will cost 200-300% more by the end of 2026, since energy production in the US has remained stagnant for decades.

Is this sustainable?
