Tape ARchive. this shit is so old and outdated. where's the rust rewrite to modernize packages and move us out of the tape age and into something meant for storage with random access?

Uhm sweaty you shouldn't do that because it's, like, le bad because, uhhh, it just is ok? You WILL subject yourself to the package manager humiliation ritual and you WILL install programs from an online app store.
>>
>>107651707
...then install your app literally any other way. Why should I have to run a retarded installer for everyrhing when I can get the executable for anything in 2-3 clicks?
>>
>>107653212
That's when you either flatpack it or be a good boy and add it to the repos yourself, preferably without every single optional dependency marked as mandatory.

Can I take my current raid 5 storage pool in truenas and change it to raid 0 while keeping the data intact?

I need more space but really don't wanna have to start fresh and copy everything back.

So im guessing its impossible to do then
>>
>>107659276
Its not impossible someone wrote a program to do it, but they are fundamentally different storage systems. You should start looking at ways to copy the data off to external HDDs or something so you can destroy the raid and create a raid 10 with a hot spare.

anon my disks all have stickers with their serial numbers on them.
also, if it's the wrong disk you just put the right one back, it's not like the array magically breaks the moment you remove a necessary disk

for some reason all of the listed above means so little in practice when the very first thing to tolerate it is to install things like irfanview, 7zip, sysinternals, foobar2000, sumatra, mpc-hc, nexusfont, setuserfta, sublimetext or notepad++...

and thankfully i am in the special wagie caste that gets to use macbooks, which not nearly as snappy as some loonix wm is still closer to like stock win7 (havent got the liquid loo update yet...)

other wagies squirm on a skype screenshare calls trying to open more than 4 tabs in a web browser and the whole computer locks up. 16G of ram just isn't enough, the msedgewebview2.exe x50 is just too powerful of a way to draw rectangles with some reflowing text in them... i would kind of silently give up on working at that point, thanks to microsoft.

You are a try hard that lacks the basic ability to see past your own nose. The arch demographic is the stomping ground for tech illiterate youtubers that don't work in tech to flex their linux know how while doing nothing but playing with Dot files while shilling stupid shit in one of the most dangerous repositories known to man. I can list off the sheer number of frauds that have damaged this board like Trust Fund smith, that fat fuck Broodie as well as a whole gaggle of dumb nerds that do nothing but poke at surface level computing with inflated egos.
You are a retard given a playground but you build a system on shattered glass and can't even do basics like security, there are other security routes you can take in linux besides SElinux but your stupid ass has zero idea what it is and thinks that you are immune to exploits just because you're on linux.
>>

I once tried to learn C++ but so many things just sucked:
The syntax, headder files, 1000 ways to do the same thing, the ((meta-)meta-) "build" system(s) and overall the feeling of the language:
It is like someone had continuously updated his hobby project without concerning other users.

I want to learn a modern language instead and chose Zig out of Rust or Zig as Rust seemed gay-coded to me.
Is it a good decision to learn Zig? Will Zig stay?

it was a hobby project until it became the foundation for serious projects, which then made he and his employer take it more seriously. they now thoroughly dogfood it in its intended usecase. i don't see how this is worse/bad. i don't even like odin, ur arg is just shitty.
>>
>>107645788
Here's the truth, ignore any who contradict this: Zig is positioned to be the C replacement, Rust is structured to be the C++ replacement. Both are very good for this so think about what it is that you actually want to problem, look at what C is used for and what C++ is used for then decide which path you want to go down.

>Our North Star is ‘1 engineer, 1 month, 1 million lines of code.’ To accomplish this previously unimaginable task, we’ve built a powerful code processing infrastructure. Our algorithmic infrastructure creates a scalable graph over source code at scale. Our AI processing infrastructure then enables us to apply AI agents, guided by algorithms, to make code modifications at scale. The core of this infrastructure is already operating at scale on problems such as code understanding.”

I think CODING will go away but PROGRAMMING is here to stay.
And CODING is currently the best way to practice PROGRAMMING.

I'm capitalizing the words not because I'm shouting but because I want to emphasize that these two are only synonymous today in the pre-AI-coder era. I say it's "pre-" because there isn't an enterprise software product/service out there that was developed using LLMs/AI.
